Diving In

“True.” Fisher liked the way he was humoring her. “Besides, there’s nothing better than pitchers who rake.”

“Wow. That is the sexiest thing I have ever heard.” He brushed his lips against the delicate skin behind her ear. “Can I kiss you?”

She nodded, feeling a little lightheaded.

Slowly, carefully, he lowered his mouth to hers. Just a whisper of kiss, and she sighed. He pressed his lips more firmly against hers and slipped his tongue into her mouth. Slow, yet sweet, playing her until she opened to him.

One of his hands slid into her hair, gently stroking her long silky strands, and the other pulled her hips closer. Pressing her against him, so she could feel just how turned on he was.

Amazingly, she was even more turned on.

“Wow.” She finally came up for air. “That was…just…wow.”

“Yes, you are pretty spectacular.” Kyle’s eyes blazed with desire.

“There’s just one problem.” Fisher had to regain some control. “I don’t think I should drive.”

A wicked smile spread across his lips, lips that were slightly swollen from their kiss. “You think you can walk? My RV is just on the other side of the parking lot.”

“Yeah. That sounds good.” Fisher reached for her glass and downed the rest of it. She shouldn’t feel this drunk. And she wasn’t. Not really. Just tipsy enough that she could let herself be seduced by a handsome stranger. But not so much that she would regret it in the morning.

She wanted this. No. She needed this. She needed to forget about Cody, even if it was only for one night.

  * * * *

Steady. Kyle led the hot blonde—no, the strong blonde—across the parking lot to his RV. She was intoxicating, that’s for sure. He knew better than to mix business with pleasure, but as he was perusing the beer menu, he’d looked up and there she was.

Tall, not quite six feet, and strong. She looked like she worked out, but not with a personal trainer. No, she was one of those outdoorsy-type girls. She could be a triathlete or something. Tan and blond, but not like the women he knew in Southern California. This one was all-natural. She didn’t wear so much as mascara. No, the closest thing to makeup she wore was lip balm, the kind with SPF to protect her luscious lips from the sun.

She had an air about her that said she was comfortable here. Comfortable in her skin. She’d given the bartender a friendly smile, not the kind designed to flirt or get served more quickly. She kind of stood there, content to just wait her turn, and maybe look around a bit. But she wasn’t on the prowl. Something else that made her stand out.

“It’s nothing fancy.” He pulled out his keys when they reached the RV, suddenly a little nervous. “But the bed is big enough for two.”

“Sure. No big deal.” She sounded nervous, too. “I have to tell you: I don’t do this kind of thing. Like, ever.”

“If you change your mind, that’s okay.” He didn’t want to pressure her. “The dining table converts into an extra bed. I can sleep there.”

“Huh? Why would you sleep on the dining table?”

“Well, you said you shouldn’t drive, and if you’ve changed your mind, you can have the comfortable bed.” He was sounding like someone who didn’t do this sort of thing very often. Or, like, ever.

“No, I haven’t changed my mind.” She tucked a strand of sun-kissed blond hair behind her ear. “It’s just that… I’m not a virgin or anything, but it’s been a really long time, and I don’t want to disappoint you.”

“You won’t disappoint me.” He cupped her cheek, looked into her bright yet somewhat distant blue eyes. “You’ve already made my night. Anything from here on out is just a bonus.”

She blinked; her eyes sparkled a little too much. No, he couldn’t have her cry. That would make her just a little too vulnerable.

“Kyle?” She tilted her head just slightly, a smile warming on her lips. “Are we going to go inside, or what?”

“Yeah.” He fumbled with the keys and finally got the door unlocked. He was off his game somehow. Maybe he should mention that this RV had once belonged to… No, he had a feeling she wouldn’t give a damn about the movie star who had owned it. And now that he thought about it, it was kind of weird that he seduced women by bringing them to an RV that had been owned by a celebrity, especially when he knew at least half of them were picturing making love to that movie star and not him.

But there was still a chance that Fisher would be thinking about her married boss. He’d have to make sure that didn’t happen. Not tonight.

“Do you live here, or is this a vacation thing?” Fisher stepped inside, and he could tell she was impressed by the luxuriousness of the camper. He’d been in fancier, but the wood floors, maple cabinets, flat-screen TV, and mosaic tile backsplash were a far cry from the Formica table tops and indoor/outdoor carpeting of the old-school travel trailers he’d seen growing up. And lived in for a short time.

“I’m just passing through.” He didn’t want to go into too much detail about why he was here in Prospector Springs. Basically, he was a spy. But not of the James Bond variety. His company had sent him here to get a feel for a small business they were interested in buying. “Taking some time to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.”

“Well, this is as good a place as any to find yourself.” She surveyed the interior and her gaze traveled toward the back of the RV, where the queen-size bed was.

“Can I get you anything? Another beer?” Not that he wanted to delay things, but he wanted to make her more comfortable.

“Some water?” She smoothed the hem of her short denim skirt down her strong, sexy thighs.

“Good idea.” He pulled two bottles of water from the fridge, opened one, and handed it to her before opening his own.

He watched her down half the bottle, impressed by her toned arms, her sexy shoulders. “You’re like a cougar.”

“Wait. How old are you?” Her eyes grew wide and she set the water on the counter.

“Not that kind of cougar.” He laughed. “I mean, that’s what it is about you. You’re like a mountain lion. Strong. Sleek. Powerful.”

“Are you worried I’m going to maul you?” She bit her lower lip and it was just about the sexiest thing he’d ever seen.

“I can only hope.” He moved toward her, placing his hands on her impressive shoulders. “You could tear me limb from limb, but I have a feeling it will be worth it.”

“Kiss me.” She looked up at him with a fierce hunger in her eyes.

He brushed his lips against hers. For some reason, he felt like he had to be gentle with her. Not move too fast. But she forced her tongue into his mouth. And she devoured him. Her lips were every bit as strong as the rest of her. He reached up to gently touch her face, but she grabbed his ass, pressing him against her. Against the one part of her body that would be soft.

Her leg snaked up around his thigh, and her skirt inched up as she rubbed up against him. He dropped his hand to her rear, under her skirt, expecting to find a bare cheek. But instead of a thong, she wore thin cotton panties. He didn’t think he could get any harder, but boy, was he wrong.

He slipped his finger beneath the elastic, finding her soft, warm center. She groaned in pleasure. Oh how he wanted to make her cry out in ecstasy, but the angle wasn’t quite right. He stepped back enough to slide her panties down her hips, down her legs, until she stepped out of them completely.

Then he moved his hands back up her legs and shoved her skirt out of the way.

She was a natural blonde. He placed a gentle kiss on the golden curls at the apex of her thighs. A soft moan escaped her lips and he was tempted to deepen the kiss, but she was leaning against the counter. He wanted to give her the royal treatment. “The bed is this way.” He growled as he tugged her toward the back of the trailer.

“You have condoms?” Her plea was desper
ate, and he was so glad he could produce them for her.

“Come.” He lifted her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist. “And then I’m going to make you come and come and—”

She stuck her tongue down his throat and by some miracle he was able to carry her the ten steps or so to the bed. He laid her on the mattress and dropped to his knees. He needed to taste her like he needed to breathe.

Spreading her thighs apart, he lowered his head and buried himself in her blond curls. He slid his tongue into her silky sweetness. God, she was so wet. So delicious. He devoured her, coaxing her toward a climax.

“Kyle! Oh my God, please…” A guttural moan cut off the rest of her words.

“Please stop?” He was 99 percent sure she meant the opposite, so he gave her one more slow slide of his tongue.

“No.” She panted, lifting her hips, pressing against his mouth, showing him that she wanted him to continue. “Wait. Oh, God. Kyle.”

  She shuddered.

“I want you inside me.” She lifted her head; her eyes were glossy, shimmering with passion, not sadness. “Please. Now.”

“Well, since you said ‘please.’” He tore off his shirt and shoved his pants and boxer briefs out of the way. He took two steps toward the side table where he kept a supply of condoms and grabbed a package, tore it open, and sheathed himself in record time.

“You are so beautiful.” He unbuttoned her skirt and slid it down her hips; then he moved her tank top out of the way and reached for her bra, but her nipples showed through the thin white cotton of her bra. “Oh God.”

He sucked her breast through the simple garment.

“I know, they’re a little on the small side.” Vulnerability sounded in her voice, making him want to do everything he could to make this a night she’d never forget.

“No. They’re perfect.” He pulled down the soft cup, and took her damp nipple into his mouth. “You’re perfect.”

He suckled her breast, scraping his teeth ever so gently against the pebbled flesh. “Fisher…”

He lifted his head and looked her in the eye. She was absolutely gorgeous, her lips swollen from his kisses, her eyes glazed over with passion, her breath coming in ragged gasps. He needed to be inside her. He needed to possess her. To please her. He slid his hand between her thighs, stroking her sweetly, bringing her closer, closer to the edge. When her breathing quickened and she lifted her hips, he positioned himself over her.

“Open your eyes,” he insisted. “I want to see you when I enter you.”

“Kyle.” She looked up at him. Their eyes locked in a blaze of passion that was hotter than anything he’d ever experienced before.

Then he thrust, gently at first, watching her eyes widen in pleasure. She welcomed him, lifting her hips, taking him deeper.

He closed his eyes. Couldn’t handle the intense emotions he saw in her eyes. Wonder. Passion. Complete surrender.

He couldn’t handle it, because her eyes mirrored his own feelings.

She wrapped her legs around his waist, clenched her inner muscles, and cried out his name as she succumbed to another orgasm.

His was more powerful than anything he’d ever felt.

  Chapter 2

Shortly after dawn, Fisher slipped out of Kyle’s bed. She hadn’t quite regrown her bones, but they were solid enough for her to stand and search the floor for her clothes. She found her tank top, bra, and skirt rather quickly, but her panties weren’t near the bed.

She shook the fog from her head and remembered drinking bottled water toward the front of the camper, closer to the door. Right. He’d removed her panties and she’d left her leather flip-flops in the kitchen area of his luxury RV.

As quietly as possible, she searched for her missing undergarments. There they were, on the floor, next to her shoes and her small handbag that she must have dropped when he’d kissed her.

Slipping on her underwear and sandals, she cast one last, longing glance at the man in the bed.

Had she really had wild, wanton sex with a total stranger? She didn’t even know his last name. But what did it matter? She was never going to see him again. And she’d accomplished her goal.

One whole night where she didn’t ache for Cody.

Kyle would never know the gift he’d given her last night. But it wasn’t just the physical satisfaction that she’d always remember. She’d had orgasms before. Usually with the help of Buzz—her trusted vibrator. No. It was the way he made her feel like the sexiest woman in the world. Like she was beautiful, and interesting, and worthy of, if not love, at least sex.

And why not? She was a healthy twenty-six-year-old single woman. Saving herself for a man who’d moved on years ago wasn’t getting her anywhere. And as much as she’d wanted him, she would never, ever, in a million years break up a marriage. Especially when there were children involved.

It was time for her to move on. Get a life. And getting laid was a good way to start.

Quietly, she let herself out of the RV. The early morning sun reminded her that she’d never found her sunglasses. And the Argo wouldn’t open until eleven. So she’d have to drive home in the bright sunlight and hope she could find a spare pair before she met her whitewater school students.

Fisher climbed into her Jeep and checked the glove box. No such luck. She felt around under the seat and found a baseball hat. She gathered her hair into a loose ponytail and threaded it through the hole in the back of the cap. Better than nothing.

At least it was a short drive to the resort. Not too much time for her to think about what she’d done. She pulled into the driveway, right next to Cody’s truck. His door opened and he stepped out just as she shut off her engine. He took a few steps to lean on the open window of her passenger side door.

“Just getting home?” He knew. It was clear from the tone of his voice that he knew exactly what she’d been up to.

“Yeah.” Of all the people she had to run into first thing this morning.

“Good. I’m glad you continued to celebrate.” He flashed a heartbreaking smile. “I’d hate for you to let us old married folks slow you down.”

Like she needed a reminder that he was married. It was like a tick biting her heart, burying itself deeper and deeper each day.

“I hope you had a good time.” He sounded sincere enough, as if he meant it. As if he wanted her to be happy.

“I did.” She tried to keep her voice cheerful. To act like this was just a conversation between two friends. “You’re here awfully early.”

“Babies make a really effective alarm clock.” His grin showed how much he adored his children. “Addy went back to sleep, but Ava is raring to go. I don’t even want to think about when she starts walking.”

“She’ll give you a run for your money.” Fisher couldn’t help but picture him chasing his kids as toddlers. He’d have his hands full, for sure.

“I’d better start saving up my energy.” He stood, perhaps realizing that she might not want to stay and chat. “Well, I’ll let you go. You ready for your guide school? They should start coming in around noon.”

“I’ll be ready.” After breakfast, a shower, and maybe a nap. “Aren’t I always?”

“Of course. I don’t know what we’d do around here without you.”

  “You’d manage.”

“No. Seriously, we should have given you a raise a long time ago.” He leaned on the door again. Did he not know what he was doing to her? Obviously not. But maybe that was a good thing.

“Well, it’s not like I have a lot of expenses.” The rent was super cheap on the room she shared, and her Jeep was paid for.

“Well, you might want to save up for a place of your own.”

“Maybe.” But she couldn’t imagine living alone.

“Well, I’d better get going. Miranda is going to need me this afternoon.” Cody stoo
d again. Maybe this time he meant it. “She’s working on her second book. Can you believe it? The first one comes out in September.”

“Yeah, that’s so cool.” The last thing she wanted was to read a romance novel written by the woman who was married to the man she couldn’t have. “I can’t wait to get an autographed copy.”

“So, let me know if you need anything. I’ll be around.”

“Yeah, sure.” Until his wife called him home.

Fisher opened the driver’s side door and stepped out of her Jeep. She gave Cody a wave and made her way to the guides’ house. She hoped someone had made coffee, a task that often fell to her since she was usually the first one up.

Ross was there, sitting at the kitchen table, wearing board shorts and his guitar.

“Look at you, doing the walk of shame.” He strummed his guitar for dramatic effect.

“What? Shame?” She rolled her eyes. “Why is it that when one of you guys gets laid, you brag about it? High-five each other. You never call it shameful. But when a woman does it…”

“You’re right.” Ross set his guitar down and stood up. “Put ’er there.”

He held up his hand and she smacked it. Hard.

“So?” He waggled his eyebrows, looking for details. “How was it?”

“A lady never tells.” She smiled coyly. “At least not before coffee.”

“There’s coffee and bacon, but you’ll have to scramble your own eggs.” Ross picked up his mug and chuckled softly. “Unless they’ve already been scrambled.”

“Oh, grow up.” Fisher made her way toward the coffeepot. She poured a steaming mug and inhaled.

“Hey, you wanna play with the boys?” Ross shrugged.

“I sent the boys home and found myself a man.” Fisher had always been able to fit in with the guys. She’d listened to their bragging and banter and bullshitting. But she’d been a little on the outside. Until Brooke had joined the team last summer, she’d been the only woman who lived here full-time. Lily had come along a few weeks before Brooke, but she wasn’t one of the guys. She’d become a friend, and as far as Fisher knew, she was the only one who knew about her feelings for Cody.
