The Highlander On The Run (Iron 0f The Highlands Series Book 1)

His hands moved her legs further apart, and he started to touch her, repeating the motion his tongue had made, working that small knot with gentle insistence, making a slow, steady thrum of pleasure run along her veins and into her mind.
She started to wriggle, not sure if she could stand much more of what he was doing. It was so wonderful, it made her feel so good…
Before she knew what had happened, something flared so brightly through her body that she cried out aloud and then collapsed, breathless, on the bed. Below her, Alexander gently moved back, then looked up at her.
“Good?”
She chuckled. “Oh, Alexander. Need you ask? Yes. Oh, yes.”
“Good.” He sounded very satisfied. He crawled up the bed to lie beside her.
His body pressed to hers, he kissed her. He was aroused, she could feel that. She pressed against him, loving the proof of how much he wanted her.
He held her close, pressing his body to her, kissing her, stroking her back. His touch had a sort of desperate insistence. She felt the feeling grip her, too.
He gently pressed her onto her back, kneeling up between her parted thighs.
His eyes held hers as he gently rubbed himself against her, letting his hardness push on the place he’d just been touching. Addie gasped, feeling new bursts of sensation inside her.
He smiled as she gasped and, so tenderly, pushed himself into her. She cried out as he moved into her with such tenderness, pushing in until the full length of him was buried in her.
Then, as she let her body grow accustomed to this new, sweet, sensation, he withdrew and entered her again, this time with a little more intensity, rubbing against a spot inside which made her tingle all over. He moved with more rapidity, pulling out and thrusting in, pulling out, thrusting in…
She closed her eyes as the sweet, tender rubbings and the fullness of him within started to take her to that wonderful, tingling place. She could hear him groaning too, gritting his teeth and crying out. She felt her own arousal increase with the sounds, as if knowing how much she pleasured him was in its own way arousing.
“Oh, Addie…” he cried out. He was moving with speed now and she felt herself start to get close to that place where, only a few minutes ago, he had taken her. She gritted her teeth, trying not to cry out as the feelings consumed her body from within.
“Oh!”
With a resounding moan, he collapsed on top of her, as she reached the pinnacle of that place where he had just taken her. They cried out together, then collapsed.
They must have been very weary, for it was the next morning, with the sun shining through the window, when she awoke.
“Oh, Alexander,” she whispered into his ear. He lay beside her, his fine profile on the pillow, outlined by the fine pale sunlight.
“Oh, Addie,” he whispered. He drew her to him. She nestled against his neck.
He stroked her hair and, together, they listened to the sounds of the household coming awake.
Addie knew that she had never in her life felt so happy.
EPILOGUE
The snow fell past the windows, thick and fast. Addie looked out at it from the chair in the turret room. It was February, now, the end of winter.
“Alexander?” she called. She turned around in the chair, her motions a little muffled by the weight of blankets piled onto her knee. She might have been watching snow, but she was toasty warm as she had never felt before.
“I put more wood on the fire downstairs,” Alexander called, appearing in the doorway. “I…Addie?” He ran to her, kneeling by her chair. “What is it?”
She looked into his eyes, gently stroking his hair. Her lips twisted in a tender smile.
“Nothing,” she said. “I was just glad to hear you coming up the stairs. I missed you.”
“You’re sweet,” he said, kissing her fingertips.
She just smiled. Stroking his hair, which had grown back as lustrous as when she first encountered him, she felt restfulness fill her.
“It’s grand you had this place,” she whispered.
“I almost forgot about it,” Alexander said, looking up into her eyes. “It’s just as well my steward reminded me about it.”
“It’s cold up here, in the Highlands,” Addie added, watching the big swirling flakes fall past the window, strangely slowly, for their fluffy size. “But I would never have imagined such a wonderful place.”
“I’m glad you like it.”
Glenleigh was a fortress – it had been more like a castle in better years, he had explained, but now, with its ruinous curtain wall, only the tower and part of the ramparts remained. The tower was habitable, however, three stories high, with a kitchen below, a parlor in the middle and their bedroom above. There was a fourth room, which they thought they might use for the bairn.
“I hope you don’t feel too cold here,” Alexander whispered back, sounding concerned.
“I’m quite alright,” she said. She smiled down at him fondly. With that gentle frown between his brows, his long red hair loose about his face, he looked so beautiful.
“What?” he asked, stroking her smiling face.
“Och, Alexander,” she sighed, though her heart was filled with joy, fit to bursting. “I never thought to see a body so concerned! You’d think no woman ever bore a bairn.”
He chuckled, hugging her round the waist. She wrapped her arms around his head, holding him close.
“I know I’m an old fusspot sometimes,” he said, grinning. “But I cannae help it. I want you to be safe in all things. Especially in this.”
She looked down into those brown eyes that she loved so well. The lines at the corners deepened as he smiled at her. She shook her head, amused by his tender concern.
“I am beside you, in a castle, with a thick curtain wall, a huge fire, and a pile of coverings.” She lifted one of the three blankets he had piled onto her knee. “I think I am the safest person on Earth right now.”
He smiled, chuckling with some embarrassment. “I reckon I am silly sometimes.”
“No, you’re not,” she said, and gently kissed his hair. “You’re dear and gentle, and I love you for it. I love you so much, Alexander Raeburne,” she whispered into his soft red locks.
“I love you too,” he said.
Beside them, in the grate, the fire burned and cracked softly. Outside, beyond the windows, the snow fell. Scotland might have an uncertain future – the intrigue for the throne, and England’s plotting, still continued. They would support it, but at once removed.
Now, all they wanted was a chance at happiness.
Addie thought, leaning back contended in the chair with her hand buried in Alexander’s hair and her body warm and relaxed, she had found happiness. It seemed he had, too.
