Kissed by the Professor (Class is in Session Book 3)

"Chapter four continues the idea of love with more of a regard to desire. It asks why do we want what we want in the first place? What makes a person desirable to you? Is it what you see on TV? Is it what you see around you? Is what you like always influenced by outer sources, or do you have the final say at the end of the day?"

  He changed the slide.

“Like always, I want to open the floor to you guys. Answer the objective of chapter four from your point of view.”

I raised my hand. It shot up like a bullet in the sky before I could stop it. His eyes met mine and widened in surprise. “Go ahead,” he said, moving his hands to his pockets and looking up at me with a curious expression.

"I think that even though what we see from outer sources--magazines, television, social media--can have an effect on what we view as desirable. What we like stems from what we find missing in our lives. The kindness we seek, the attention we desire, the love we sometimes hinder...we look for it in those around us, and that affects the people who we attract and thus are attracted to. Sometimes the way they look at you makes you feel like you're the only one that matters. They give you the confidence that we sought out, so we fall in love with their eyes. Sometimes the way they hold you makes you feel safe. They give you the safety that we sought out, so we fall in love with their presence." I smiled as I thought about all the ways I loved Adam.

"At the end of the day, we want what we want. And despite the influence of other factors, nothing is stronger than your personal desire for someone. I'd say some manage to always get what they want…" A smile pulled at Adam's lips as I concluded my response.

  Chapter 10

  Adam

I completed the lecture with Hanna on my mind the whole time. It didn’t help that the topic for the day was about desire. My eyes would always redirect to the center of the classroom where she was. I dismissed the class right on time and allowed them to file out before grabbing my things and walking up the stairs in Hanna’s direction.

"You made some excellent points in class today," I admitted with a smile playing on my lips. "Especially that part about getting what you want."

“I said some people,” she quoted with an eyebrow raised.

"Well, some people like me would do anything for you…" I made it to the end of her row, where she met me with a smile. "Some people don't care that you declined a week of free coffee, and only that you accepted the first one, to begin with. Because if you hadn't, we wouldn't be here." I held up her face to me, noting how plump and kissable her lips looked. "And I wouldn't be able to do this."

I leaned into her and embraced her softly before pulling away.

“Tell me why you love me,” she said.

Her request surprised me, but I still jumped at the chance to tell her. "I love you because you challenge me. You make me think. You question me. You don't let me get away with bullshit. I love you because you're intelligent. You bring up points that, even as a professor of Philosophy, makes me question myself. I love you because you're strong. Even when you feel powerless, you still manage to reign over all the obstacles and insecurities. I love you because you're beautiful." Her eyes brightened. "Your lips, your eyes, your body, your mind, your soul…" I paused, thinking about it all. "I have never been more attracted to someone than I am to you. I love you, Hanna."

She immediately smiled. For the first time, she wasn’t rolling her eyes at my compliments or laughing it off. For the first time, it felt like she was becoming aware of how magnificent she truly was.

“I love you, too,” she said.

We slowly pulled into each other and kissed. When we pulled away, she looked up at me with her big brown eyes gazing up at me. “Say it again,” she said.

“I love you,” I repeated. “I love you. I love you. I love you.”

I pulled her into me and kissed her again.

  Epilogue

  Hanna

I was standing in front of the mirror in my room in nothing but a bra and panties. Dragging the huge full-length mirror from my apartment to my house had been a pain but seeing the same one looking back at me as I danced in front of it felt empowering. It was hard to believe that at one point, I had been cowering before it, nitpicking every flaw I saw in myself.

“Babe,” I heard from outside in the hallway.

I turned my head to the door just in time to see my husband, Adam, standing at the door frame. He chuckled when he saw me in front of the mirror.

“Shouldn’t you be getting ready for work?” he asked.

“And shouldn’t you be getting ready for class, Professor?” I asked him with a smirk.

He walked up to me and pulled me into him. “That depends. I haven’t had my coffee yet.”

I laughed as I reached my arms around his neck and leaned into him, kissing him softly. “I love being married to you,” he confessed in a low whisper.

“It’s only been a year. Are you sure?”

He looked at me as if he couldn’t believe what I said. “I’m positive that I want to be married and in love with you for the rest of my life. I should be asking you if you’re sure since you ask so many questions.”

He arched an eyebrow at me as I rolled my eyes. "Oh please, you love that about me," I said, making him laugh. "And I know I'm going to be in love with you for the rest of my life. People are predictable, after all." I winked at him before leaning into him for another kiss, feeling the love I had so wanted flowing through me as smoothly as blood through my veins.

I pulled away from him and spoke. “Now, let’s go get some coffee.”
