Blue

“Keep your eyes open, Pheebs,” I murmur.
She nods. She lifts her hips and it gives me more room to work my two fingers against her G-spot while my thumb draws circles over her clit. “I like pleasuring you, Phoebe. Watching you come undone makes my dick hard. I can’t wait to feel your juices on my skin. I wish I could taste them…lick them off your hot fucking pussy.” Not caring if cars beside of us can see us or not, I lower my head and suck her nipple in my mouth through her bra and shirt.
“Oh, God, Blue!” she screams out.
I can feel her muscles pulse around my fingers and I know she’s in a sea of pure bliss. I watch her as she rides out her orgasm and it’s the most awesome thing I’ve ever witnessed. She bites her lip and fights to keep her eyes open. When her pussy is no longer clenching for me to stay, I pull my fingers out and pop both of them in my mouth.
“Mmm…just as delicious as I remember.” I wink then smirk at her.
Her chest rises and falls with heavy breaths. Her eyes are lazy and her mouth is grinning as if to say she’s happily sated. She looks like a girl who’s been thoroughly fucked. Finger-fucked, that is.
She finally releases a deep breath. “That…was fucking incredible.”
Feeling smug, I say, “Why, thank you, there’s more where that came from. Of course, that is if you’re interested.”
“Oh, I’m more than interested, but not while I’m driving. You don’t know how close I came to wrecking us.”
“I had faith in you.” I pause. “Now what are we doing the rest of the day?”
“I’m not sure there’s anything to top what just happened. Anything else will seem dull and boring.”
I rest my arm on the top of her seat and my fingers thread through the back of her hair. “Phoebe, as long as I’m with you, I’ll never be bored. I don’t care if we were to drive around in circles all day. As long as I’m spending time with you it’s enough.”
She peeks at me from the corner of her eyes. “You’re too sweet, but you know that already.”
My lips twist in thought when an idea hits me. “What do you say we drive to the beach and have a little ocean fun? No surfing, just playing in the water, getting a tan, and digging in the sand until our cracks are full of grit.”
“Ooo, I love sand in my ass. Sounds like the perfect plan. You want to go now while the weather is perfect?”
“I’m ready to be on the beach any time,” I say, leaning over to kiss her on the cheek. “But don’t you need a bathing suit?”
Her eyes roll as she smiles. And it’s not one that says she’s happy. It’s more of those ‘I’m embarrassed, please don’t judge me’ kind. “Um, I kind of have a second closet in my trunk.” She shoots a quick glance my way. “You never know when you might end up in a sticky situation.”
“Does that mean you have towels too?”
“No, but we can use the ones I have covering the back seat.”
Phoebe finds a place to park that’s not too far of a walking distance. When she opens the trunk, I shove my fist against my mouth in hopes of holding back my disbelief.
“Holy shit, Pheebs! This is more than a closetful. You’ve got the whole damn house crammed in here.” It isn’t dirty by any means. All items of clothing are folded and placed neatly in clothes baskets. Along with two sets of blankets I spotted that would be perfect to lie on the beach with. Reaching in, I grab one and stuff it under my armpit.
“Yeah, maybe there’s a little more than I remember. You can never be too prepared.” She shrugs and goes straight for the basket holding her bikini. “Look how it benefited us today.”
“That it did, and I’m thankful for it…just as I am for you.” Taking her by surprise, I spin her around and press my lips to hers. “Now go change in the car so we can get our asses dirty. I’ll stand watch for you.”
She climbs into the back seat and crouches down low in the floorboard while she removes her shirt and bra with lightning speed.
“Blue!” she shrieks then crosses her arms over her chest.
“What?” I ask, not sure if she hears me since I’m not yelling.
“Stop staring at me and pay attention to any perverts lurking around here.”
“Sorry, I thought I was supposed to watch you. My bad.” I smirk then give her a wink before I turn around and make sure nobody is catching a peek of my girl. My girl.
When she climbs out of the car, she pinches me on the ass then smacks the exact same spot.
“Ouch!”
“That’s what you get for gawking at my boobs like a sex addict. Someone could’ve seen me.”
I drop my head. “I was just trying to have some fun,” I say, using my best pouty voice.
“Come here, you big goof.” She wraps her arms around my waist and squeezes me tight. “I’m so happy you’re here.”
Hugging her back, I tell her, “Me too. And for the record, your boobs are fucking incredible. Do you think I could do a little motor boating in them?”
She bursts out in laughter. “It depends on how well you behave the rest of the day. So far your chances aren’t looking so great.”
“I know how to earn my brownie points.” All I have to do is go down on her and I know she’ll let me do whatever I want.
“We’ll see, mister.” She narrows her eyes at me but the sly grin on her face tells me I’ll get what I want later.
Squatting down, I tell her to hop on my back.
“Didn’t we live in a moment like this once before?”
“Maybe. I don’t want you overexerting yourself. Now get on and wrap those sexy legs around me.”
We find an empty spot big enough to spread our blanket out. After we apply sunblock on each other, I swoop her up and carry her down to the water. Taking my time, I wade through the water with her still in my arms.
“The last time we were in the water,” I begin.
“The last time you made me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world.”
She holds my gaze, and I can tell there is no reason to bring up the past. Instead, I say, “When the water gets deep enough to touch my belly button, I’m taking us both under. Is that okay?”
Her head bobs, but her eyes hold mine. “Yes, but only once and please don’t let me go.”
There’s so much more that she didn’t say, but I can read in her expression.
“Phoebe, I’ll hold you as long as you allow me to,” I say, hoping she gets that I mean it in so many ways.
For the rest of the weekend we don’t do anything extraordinary. She takes me around town and shows me the highlights of where she grew up. Our time might be limited, but we make the most out of it while we’re together. And when it comes time for me to go back home, it only gets harder for me to leave her.
The next weekend I hoped to fly her down to Florida, but my asshole father demands for me to drive to Pensacola so I can look into an accident that took place at one of our sites. I know it’s part of my job, but he never mentioned I would be working on weekends. And most importantly, it takes precious time away from my girl. I’m pretty sure he caught wind of my plans and sent me instead of the guy he usually sends. It’s definitely not because he wants to broaden my knowledge with the ins and outs of King Construction Group.
I wasn’t planning on flying up the following weekend because her graduation is the weekend after, but I can’t handle going another week without seeing her.
PHOEBE
“Surprise, surprise.”
I’m dumbfounded when I open the door and see Blue standing with his arms stretched out wide. I swear he looks hotter than the last time I saw him. His skin is a shade darker, the patch of longer hair on his head is streaked with cool highlights, and an array of freckles is lightly sprinkled over his nose and cheeks. He must be making time to surf before work.
“Oh my God! What are you doing here? I didn’t think you were coming until next weekend.” To say I’m buzzing with excitement is an understatement. It’s crazy how much I’ve miss
ed him. An explosion of butterflies lets loose in my stomach. When I felt this that first day I picked him up at the airport, I brushed it off as nerves. This time, though, I’m pretty sure it’s because I like him. Like, a lot. Like, a lot, a lot.
He drops his bag, wraps his arm around my waist, and pulls me flush against his mega-muscled body. “I couldn’t wait one more week. I decided on an impromptu visit while out surfing yesterday morning.” He cradles the back of my head then brings his mouth to mine. I swear his lips are the softest I’ve ever felt.
We get lost in one another like we always do when we kiss, and it’s not until I hear my mom clear her throat behind me that we stop.
Blue keeps his hand on my waist as I turn to face Mom. “Look who’s here.” The smile plastered on my face is ridiculous.
“Hi, Lance,” she says, passing by with a laundry basket in her hands full of clothes. “Glad to see you again. I’ll chat in a minute. I need to get these in the washer.” She disappears through the kitchen and out to the garage where our washer and dryer are located.
“Come on,” I say, grabbing his hand and leading him to my room. I’m bouncing on the balls of my feet as I lead him down the hall like a silly girl with a stupid crush.
Once in my room, I close the door behind him. “So, what do you want to do? Of course, I have nothing planned since I wasn’t expecting this.”
“We don’t have to do anything. We can hang out on your couch and watch TV all day. I don’t care, just as long as I’m spending time with you.” He looks at his hand still in mine and brings it up to his lips. He leaves chaste kisses over each of my knuckles then gives me a lustful smile.
I’m about to ask him if we’ve suddenly jumped back into the friend zone with those simple kisses, but my phone chimes and an unknown local number catches my attention.
“Are you going to answer that?” he asks.
“No. I don’t know who it is. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.” I rarely answer the phone unless it’s my parents, Kristy or Tiffanny. If someone wants to get in touch with me bad enough then they can text me. Talking on the phone takes up too much of my precious time.
He pulls his phone out and scrolls through it. “I hope you never ignore my future texts or calls.”
Placing my hand over his phone and hand, I guide it down beside his leg. “Don’t get your phone out. We’re spending time together, remember?”
Startling both of us, my door swings open and Mom is in the doorway with the phone to her ear. Tears are in her eyes and my heart immediately drops. She nods as if the person on the other end can see her and her chin quivers when she tries to speak. Dad appears right behind her, rubbing her arms up and down in comfort. When I see the smallest hint of water glistening in his eyes, my stomach suddenly feels hollow.
Moving as fast as my feet allow me, I’m in her face trying to hear what’s being said on the other end. Aside from a man’s voice mumbling, I’m unable to make out any coherent words. Mom ends the call by saying thank you one too many times, and then she drops her hand away from her ear.
“What’s going on?” I ask, desperate for answers.
Mom turns around into my dad’s arms and cries into him as he holds her and cries too. With anticipation, my heart pumps double time, and it feels like my esophagus is cut off from the rest of my body.
Fighting through my shortness of breath, I ask, “Will you please tell me what’s going on? You guys are scaring me.”
“They found a match, Pheebs!” she exclaims, turning around to hug me. “Our prayers have been answered. You’re going to be healthy again, baby.”
My eyes sting as her words soak into my brain. I can’t believe what I’m hearing. It feels like a dream. Uncontrollable sobs choke me as the three of us hold each other. We’ve been waiting for my life to change for the better. For a couple of years, I’ve gone through extensive experimental treatments in hopes of one of them finally working. After nearly losing hope, faith and patience have finally paid off. I’ve never been so happy in my life.
While I celebrate the possible extension of my life with my mom and dad, I forget Blue is still here. The sound of him clearing his throat reminds me of his presence, and I reach an arm out, inviting him into our group hug.
Reluctantly, he takes slow steps toward us. Once he’s within my reach, I grab his shirt and pull him between my mom and me. Tears of joy spill down my face as Blue smiles at me then kisses my forehead.
“Congratulations, sweetheart. I’m so happy for you,” he says, hugging me tight.
After what feels like hours of hugging in my bedroom, we move our celebration into the living room. “So how soon am I looking at surgery and why didn’t they call me first?” I ask as I sit down beside Blue on the couch.
“He called you first, but you didn’t answer and since they needed to contact one of us ASAP, he called me immediately after.”
Shit. That explains the unknown caller earlier. Ugh! Of all times for me to screen my calls, I pick the worst one to miss. Never in my wildest dreams did I fathom a match would ever be found. After waiting for so long, I figured it would never happen.
Blue gives me a knowing look at the mention of me ignoring the all-important call. I glare back and refrain from childishly sticking my tongue out at him.
Mom and Dad are both already in their pajamas, ready for bed, but after our exciting news, I know none of us will be going to bed anytime soon. “As for the surgery, they want to schedule it right away,” Mom says, carrying two cups of steaming coffee. She hands one to my father sitting in his favorite recliner then sits on the love seat, folding her legs to the side. “He wants you to call him tomorrow so he can discuss everything with you. The boy whose lungs you’re receiving is being kept alive on life support. His parents want the family to say their goodbyes before they remove him from it.” Mom’s eyes water up.
I know she often thought she’d have to witness me in the same circumstance.
“Oh no!” As much as I need new lungs, I never thought it through thoroughly. The realization of someone’s life ending so I’m able to live mine is incomprehensible. Am I a selfish person if I take it? “Is there nothing they can do to save his life?”
“No, honey, there isn’t. He’s brain-dead,” Mom answers barely above a whisper.
Sorrow caves in on my chest, making it difficult for me to breathe, and it reminds me of how life is so unfair.
As if Mom knows what I’m thinking, she says, “You can’t think about it, Phoebe. It’ll eat you up if you do, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s meant to be this way.”
I nod, knowing what she says is true. It’s still hard to understand, though.
Sighing, I turn my thoughts to another subject that’s always looming over my head.
Knowing finances have always been an issue with my parents, I ask them, “What about the cost for the transplant? Dad, is your insurance still going to cover enough for us to afford it?” When I was first put on the transplant list I knew it came with a hefty price tag that my family couldn’t afford. Since then, I’m not sure what my parents have done to prepare for it because they refuse to tell me, but seeing how many sacrifices they make, I know they’re scraping every penny they have for my benefit. And it sucks. It sucks big, fat, donkey balls.
Using his stern fatherly voice, he says, “Phoebe, that’s the least of your worries. You let your mother and myself take care of that. All I want you to do is focus on staying healthy.” He tips his cup up and drinks his black coffee. They’re so protective of me, it’s sometimes suffocating. I know they mean well and want me to live as simple as possible because of all the hardships I’ve endured over the years, but I’m at the age where it’s time they allow me to grow up. I can handle my own shit now. All I need is their love and support. I’m no longer their burden anymore.
Blue remains as quiet as a mouse through our exchange of words, and I wonder where his head is. Sliding my hand from my leg to his, I thread my fing
ers though his and rest my head on his shoulder. “You’re being quiet. What’s got your tongue?” I ask with a loud whisper.
He releases a deep breath and his muscles relax against me. “Nothing. Just trying to keep up with your conversation and thinking of how I can play a part in it.”
“Well, for starters, you can cancel your appointment for that blood work now that I have a match.” Blue’s body stiffens and has the face of a deer caught in headlights. “Relax, I’m only joking.” I giggle. “Just support me.”
He releases a loud exhale. “I want to be here for you, and I mean literally here. If I can work it out, I will be.”
My smile widens and it stays that way until my cheeks become sore. This is the happiest I’ve been in I don’t know when. I don’t know if I’ve ever been this ecstatic.
While my parents are still floating in the clouds, I figure it’s the best time to tell them about Blue staying with us. If it was okay last time, I’m sure they won’t mind it again. “Um, Mom, Dad, I have a favor to ask.”
They both end their private conversation and look up at me.
“Since Blue is here without transportation or a place to stay, do you mind if he stays with us again?” Not only have I learned over the years to wait until they’re in a good mood, I also learned to ask in front of friends. They rarely ever say no when they’re put on the spot.
Blue discreetly elbows me lightly in the side. I guess he doesn’t appreciate me putting him on the spot.
“Marvin, Kay,” he says, nodding to them, then stands up. “You don’t have to answer that. I’ve already made arrangements for tonight.”
I glare at him, and he winks at me then gives me his signature cocky grin. Ugh! He has zero plans made. What a schmoozer. He thinks he’s got my mom and dad in the palm of his hands. I almost want them to call him on his bluff.
“No, no,” Mom says, waving at him to sit back down. “You’re more than welcome to stay here however long you need to.”
He arches one eyebrow at me with that stupid smug smile still plastered on his face.
“No, that’s okay. I don’t want to intrude—”
