Kissing the Golem

Page 3

by Danielle Summers

He was no longer terrified. He was turned on. They could be caught having sex out here by cops or another gang of gay bashers, but Marcus didn’t care. Jacob was nibbling at his neck, slowly making his way over to his left ear. Right now Marcus was thrilled and happy. He didn’t really want to break up with Jacob. He just wanted things to change.

Jacob pulled his hands away from Marcus’ nipples. He heard Jacob spit and slick up his penis. Jacob wasn’t as big as the Golem, and Marcus was so glad. A big penis was great to lick and play with on special occasions, but a cock like Jacob’s was good to get fucked with on a regular basis. Jacob had what some guys called a “boyfriend” penis. It was just big enough to make you very happy, but not so big as to be painful.

Marcus stuck his ass out a little farther and relaxed his asshole. First Jacob stuck a single finger in, gliding it in and out. Jacob always knew how to work him.

“Oh yeah, Jacob,” said Marcus. “Give it to me. Give it all to me!”

Jacob pulled his finger out giving Marcus a chance to look behind them. The Golem was standing there watching them rubbing his hand up and down his own giant penis. He seemed to be shuddering out of pleasure. Maybe it was an orgasm? Marcus wasn’t sure. He’d barely heard of the Golem before today, and he certainly had never expected a three-way with one.

Marcus turned back to face the tree and felt Jacob slip the tip of his dick in his ass. He pushed in and out a few times before plunging all the way in. Jacob’s balls hit Marcus’ butt cheeks. Jacob’s chest pressed into Marcus’ back. He could feel heat radiating off of Jacob. Marcus reached down to his own dick.

“Let’s do this together,” he said. It had been a while, but Marcus hoped Jacob remembered what he meant. He wanted them to come together.

Marcus slid one hand up and down his cock while he held on to the tree with his other hand.

Jacob started to yell and pump faster in and out of Marcus’ ass. Marcus squeezed his ass cheeks around Jacob. His dick was in good and tight and hitting Marcus’ prostate. It hit just the right spot.

  “Oh, God!” yelled Jacob.

“‘Oh, God!’ is right,” screamed Marcus. “Oh, God!”

Marcus felt Jacob shoot his cum into his ass as his own spunk started flowing. Marcus rubbed it into the tree bark and stood there panting as Jacob slipped out his dick. Marcus looked at the Golem once more. He was shaking fiercely. He looked like he would fall apart, and then he stopped. He stood there silent and still.

Jacob walked up to him, and the Golem leaned down. “Thank you,” he said as he rubbed his finger against the inscription on the Golem’s forehead, erasing part of it. Dirt started to fall from the Golem. Slowly, he disintegrated back into the Earth. Marcus and Jacob stood there, naked in the dark.

“Why did you do that? How are we going to get home?” exclaimed Marcus.

  ****

Jacob turned to face Marcus. The moonlight and the occasional glint from a street light sneaking through the trees made his brown skin shine. He stood there, leaning against a tree and panting.

“I had to set him free,” said Jacob before Marcus cut him off.

“Just tell me how we’re getting home,” Marcus said. “I don’t want to hear anything else. Nothing. Not a peep.”

“Get dressed, honey. I’m getting you home,” said Jacob.

They did get dressed, shaking grass and leaves from their clothes, and Jacob quickly realized that Marcus was serious about not wanting to talk. He would not respond to anything Jacob said. Marcus pushed a hand in his face every time Jacob opened his mouth.

After they had gotten their clothes on and checked the area for anything they might have dropped, they started walking. The Golem was gone. He had returned to the ground, but Jacob kept remembering the words of Uncle Saul. He had said that once the Golem had been called that Jacob had to remember to set him free, but that he would always be with him. He hoped that didn’t mean anything awful like always having nightmares about the Golem or having him take revenge on the people he loved. Feh, that sounded too much like a movie, he thought.

They tromped through the grass holding hands and headed towards the sounds of traffic. They didn’t usually hold hands because Jacob was closeted, but he was starting to understand the appeal. It felt so good to feel the soft skin of Marcus’ hand against his. When the ground became more rocky and treacherous, Marcus held more tightly. After about 15 minutes, they found themselves on a main street and hailed a taxi, which they took to their car. Jacob drove them home to their apartment in a downtown highrise.

The silence continued in their home, but, in the light, Jacob could see how banged up they both were. They went to the bathroom and washed the dirt out of the shallow scratches on their hands, knees and feet. They scrubbed the dirt out from under their nails. Jacob wondered how much of that dirt came from the Golem. Jacob washed Marcus’ face and got him an ice pack for his now swollen and purplish cheek. Jacob had developed quite a bump on his own head, and he applied an ice pack to that as well. Then they went to the living room and sat next to each other on the sofa.

“Do you want to talk?” Jacob said, staring at Marcus’ reflection on darkened the television screen.

“No.” Marcus didn’t look at Jacob. “I just want to go to bed. I’m tired.”

That night Jacob slept fitfully. He just couldn’t get comfortable. Sleeping on his back hurt the bump on his head. He must have had some more bruises on both of his sides because side-sleeping wasn’t comfortable either. He’d never particularly liked sleeping on his stomach, but it seemed like his only option. He flipped back and forth like a chicken turning on a rotisserie. When Jacob was able to drift off into slumber, his dreams were filled with images of the Golem, although he didn’t have any nightmares. In his dreams, the Golem was everywhere Jacob looked, but he was just standing there. Sometimes, he looked like the first time Jacob saw him when he was just a suggestion of a man. Other times, he looked like the handsome man they had had sex with in a dark field.

Jacob woke up with the early morning sun just starting to peek through the curtains. He hurt more than he did last night. His joints ached, and new bruises were appearing on his arms and legs. It was early, but he just didn’t want to sleep anymore. Marcus was stretched out next to him fast asleep, but Jacob didn’t want to wake him. Marcus’ cheek was still swollen. He was breathing loudly and making those sounds that Jacob always referred to as Marcus’ whale song. Marcus would inhale sharply, hold his breath for just a moment, and then let it out slowly, making a low hum in the process. Then he would do it all over again.

Jacob crept out of the bed as quietly as possible, grabbing his running shoes, a tank top and shorts in the process. His body ached, but he knew a run would help him feel better. His head was murky from not enough sleep and the crazy events of yesterday. A run would help clear his head.

They lived downtown, and early on a weekend morning could be particularly quiet. There were no nine-to-five workers trying to get to their desks. The tourists weren’t up. The coffee shops weren’t open yet. Even the local homeless people were still wrapped up in their newspapers and sleeping bags in their usual patches.

Jacob ran, and everywhere he went it seemed like there was something in the corner of his eye, something he couldn’t see even though he knew something was there. Maybe this was what Uncle Saul meant when he said that the Golem would always be with him. It didn’t feel like a threatening presence. It actually felt comforting, like an old blanket that was always warm.

And as Jacob ran, he began to realize what he needed to do. He couldn’t get rid of the Golem and didn’t want to. But he now knew, more than ever, that he didn’t want to get rid of Marcus. He loved him so much. He wanted to be with him, and he was going to do right by him.

When he got home, Marcus was still asleep. Jacob wanted him to sleep as long as possible. He needed it. Jacob picked up his cellphone and dialed. He hoped Uncle Saul would be awake this early.

  “It’s Jacob
.”

“I know,” said Uncle Saul. “I’m sorry you needed to call the Golem.”

  “How did you know?”

“He’s been with me for 50 years. Now, he’s gone.”

Jacob couldn’t tell if Saul was happy or sad or just relieved.

“We should have talked a long time ago, and not just about the Golem. He’s not malicious, at least not with us, but he’ll be with you until he is called by someone else. Someday you will tell a younger gay relative all about him.”

“How did we end up with a gay Golem?”

“Some of them are just born that way. You know how it is.” Saul laughed, and then they said their goodbyes and made promises to see each other again sooner rather than later.

Jacob knew that he had to make another phone call before he talked to Marcus. He had to call his mother.

  “Mom, it’s Jacob.”

“Oh, thank God! I was so worried. You didn’t call when you came home. I nearly called the police. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.” Jacob’s mother spoke fast, like she always did. It was like she would die if she stopped talking. Or maybe the world would end?

“Mom, I have something to tell you,” said Jacob.

“Oh my God, is it cancer? Are you going to be okay? You didn’t seem right yesterday. You could barely keep down your food. Should I come over?”

“Mom, I don’t have cancer. I’ve decided to follow Aunt Fanny’s advice and live honestly. I want to follow my heart,” Jacob said.

“Oh my God, you’re going to quit your job at the accounting firm and move to India. That Lydia down the street did that and now she walks around with a dot on her forehead. Don’t do it. You’ll break your mother’s heart.”

Jacob took a deep breath before attempting to get a word in edgewise. “Mom, I’m gay. Marcus is not my roommate. He’s my boyfriend. I love him.”

The phone went quiet. Jacob knew that it wouldn’t be long before his father and the whole family knew. His mother always said she could keep a secret, but Jacob knew better. And, honestly, he was tired of keeping this secret.

He could hear his mother talking to his father in the background. His mother had no idea how to use the mute button on her phone, even though he had shown her many times. And his mother couldn’t help but be loud, just like she couldn’t help revealing secrets. He heard his mother tell his father that he was gay and in love with Marcus.

“Oh my God, our son’s a faygeleh, and he’s in love with a schvartze. Oh my God! My heart! And I liked that Marcus. What has he done?”

In his head, Jacob could see his father clutching his chest, the way he always did in times of stress. His father’s heart was fine. He’d been doing this for years, even before his heart attack, for dramatic effect. And he had called Jacob a fairy and referred to his boyfriend with the Yiddish term for black person. It wasn’t necessarily derogatory unless accompanied by a disparaging tone of voice. His father had that disparaging tone, but this was a start of a whole new life. Jacob had faith that it could only get better from here.

His mother picked up the phone again.

“I love you, Mom,” said Jacob.

“Then why are you doing this to us?”

“Because it’s time for me to grow up. I’ve got to go. We can talk more later.”

Jacob hung up the phone and turned his attention to the kitchen. Marcus was still singing his whalesong, but, when he got up, he would be hungry. Jacob whipped up some scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, and coffee. He wanted to deliver breakfast in bed to Marcus. He wanted to show how much he loved him.

When Jacob walked into the bedroom with the tray of food, Marcus was just opening his eyes.

“What’s this?” he asked. “Man, I hurt all over.” He winced and propped himself up against the headboard.

Jacob placed the tray in front of Marcus and gave him a peck on the lips, taking care to avoid the bruised cheek. “This is breakfast for my boyfriend whom I love so much,” said Jacob. “I came out to my parents. I told them you were my boyfriend and that I loved you. You should eat.”

  ****

Marcus opened his eyes. His head hurt. His cheek throbbed. He seemed to be sore all over. He groaned as memory flashes of the night before flitted through his brain. He doubted most the Golem part of his memory. Jacob’s side of the bed was empty. Marcus figured he had gone running. He reached for his phone on the nightstand and groaned again. He woke his phone up. The display read 7:15. Too damn early. He texted Charice: Weird night w/ J. Golem, a giant dirt man, saved us from gay bashers. He sent the text, yawned and fell back to sleep.

Later, Marcus thought that Jacob bringing him breakfast was incredibly thoughtful. He told him so. He nearly choked on a piece of toast when Jacob told him that had finally come out to his parents.

“You what? Really?” He coughed up bits of toast.

“My father blames you, of course. He called me a fairy and you a schvartze, but I think it’s going to be okay,” Jacob said, patting him on the back. “They’ll calm down eventually.”

“I’ve never seen your parents calm,” said Marcus. “What’s that like?”

Marcus chewed on his food and the thoughts zooming through his head. Yesterday, they had nearly broken up, gotten beaten up, been saved by the Golem and had sex with the Golem. It was still a bit much to take in. He loved Jacob but wanted to be more than his roommate. Now, he was. Jacob had rolled up the shades, letting the morning light in. It was going to be a very sunny day, maybe in more ways than one.

“Can we talk now?” Jacob said. “I really want to talk about all the stuff you’ve been trying to get me to talk about, including monogamy.”

Marcus kept eating. Jacob had been ducking the monogamy question for so long that Marcus was skeptical that he was finally ready to have an honest talk about the subject.

“I don’t want to be totally monogamous, but I’m willing to negotiate,” Jacob said. “I want to still get blow jobs from other guys, but everything else I’m willing to limit to you. How’s that?”

Marcus felt like crying. He was so exhausted, and, now, after months of arguing, his boyfriend was pretty much giving him what he wanted. He would have preferred full monogamy, but he could be flexible. His thoughts briefly turned to the possibility of marriage, but he quickly pushed that idea aside. His boyfriend was going to call him “his boyfriend” and limit his sexual activities for him. That was enough for one morning.

“I would like that,” he said as a tear rolled down his face. He wiped it away with the corner of the duvet.

Marcus finished his breakfast as Jacob cleaned up. When Marcus was finished with breakfast, Jacob took away the tray. Marcus was feeling better, although he wasn’t sure he was going to spend that much time out of bed today. Jacob must have read his mind.

“You don’t have to get out of bed today. Actually, I’m going to get back in there with you.”

Jacob stripped out of his running clothes and stood there with his half-hard dick swinging. He had some bruises, but they were minor. He was covered in superficial scratches.

“What did the Golem do to you?” Marcus asked. He wondered if this was all a spell that would be broken with the wrong word. Maybe he was dreaming?

Jacob got under the covers with Marcus and snuggled up next to him. “It wasn’t just him. It was everything from yesterday. My Aunt Fanny was right, ‘Love is worth it.’ I don’t want to lose you because I’m a coward. I don’t want to be another Edelman family secret. And those guys who tried to beat us up yesterday….I called for the Golem even though I didn’t really believe in him. I just knew I had to save you. I had to save us. I knew how much I wanted to be with you.”

“I love you, Jacob. I just needed more,” Marcus said and kissed Jacob. “Are you sore too?”

“I am. I know I will crash later, but I have more for you.”

Jacob threw off the duvet, revealing more bruises and scratches on Marcus’ skin along with his morning wood. He gently kis
sed Marcus and ran his tongue down his smooth dark chest, carefully avoiding any injuries. He nuzzled his nose into Marcus’ short black pubic hair and ran his tongue up and down the shaft of Marcus’ glorious cock. It hung down like an arch ending in a beautiful mushroom head. Unlike the Golem’s, it was warm and had a large vein running down the side. Jacob opened his mouth and took in all of Marcus’ cock. He pumped his mouth up and down, and Marcus started to moan. Jacob tickled Marcus’ balls.

Marcus came, and Jacob swallowed, licking his lips as he pulled his mouth away. To Marcus it seemed like there was something about Jacob that seemed fresh and more alive than ever before. This was different from the usual runner’s high that he sometimes came home with after a jog. He seemed reborn.

Jacob got off the bed, leaving Marcus lying there in a post-blow-job glow. When he returned, it seemed like he had something in his hand. He snuggled next to Marcus who draped an arm around him.

“I love you, Jacob. I want to stay. I want you to stay. I don’t want to run away. I don’t want to break up.”

Jacob held up a ring, but it wasn’t a wedding or engagement ring. “And I know you want to get married. I’m not ready. I know your frat brothers used to pin girls and get engaged to be engaged. Can we do that? Will you wear my class ring?”

Marcus offered his hand. He would have said no if Jacob had actually proposed marriage. It would have been too much. Neither one of them was ready for that, but Marcus was ecstatic about all these steps in the right direction. Jacob slipped the ring on Marcus’ finger.

“You know, the Golem is here,” said Jacob, snuggling up to Marcus. “I see him out of the corner of my eye without actually seeing him. My Uncle Saul said that even if I set him free he would always be with me. I can feel him.”

“Should I be scared?” said Marcus.

  “No,” said Jacob. “He’s smiling.”
