Amos pulled her into his arms and kissed the top of her head. “Whatever you want to do, I’ll support you.”
And he would, too. She had not a single doubt in her mind.
“I have a lot of money now. Power and connections, too.”
He came up on his forearms and hovered over her, the scowl back on his face. “I know that.”
She ran her fingers up his bare chest. “That means I can use all of it to help you find your sister.”
He caught her hand in his and flattened her palm over his heart. “You’d do that?”
Now it was her turn to scowl at him. “Of course.”
He laughed and fell onto his back before reaching out and dragging her on top of him. “Of course you will,” he repeated. He tenderly brushed her hair back from her face. “I love you, Angel.”
She rubbed her nose against his, grinning when his smile deepened. “I love you, too.”
“You’re mine. Maybe it’s too soon to mention marriage, considering you were running from an arranged one when we met.” His eyes darkened, and his lips firmed. “I don’t want you to feel as though I’m trying to control you. And I’ll damn well sign documents relinquishing any and all claims to your money. You’ll still be free, Angel. You can be free with me by your side.”
The sincerity and emotion in his voice made her heart ache.
“So maybe you’ll consider making things legal between us. If not now, then maybe at some point down the road.”
Her pulse pounded, and tears filled her eyes. There were no flowers or a fancy dinner. No ring. No pomp or circumstance. But it was the best proposal in the world.
“I didn’t plan to get married,” she began.
A dark scowl covered his face before he wiped all emotion away. Or at least tried to. There was no hiding the pain lurking in his eyes. “Whatever you need,” he assured her.
That solidified everything in her heart. That was Amos, ready to give her whatever she needed. “You. I need you. So, yes, I will marry you.”
Pure love shone from his eyes. “You won’t regret it.”
“I know.” Their lips met in a tender kiss that filled her heart with love.
She didn’t know where the future might lead them, but there were two things she was completely certain of—Amos truly loved her, and they would find his sister.
