But tonight. Tonight would be different. Tonight I wanted to please her in every way I could imagine, and then some. I stared down at the perfectly cut diamond and my heart began to race.

The smell of cooked rabbit found its way up the stairs and brought me back to the present. I closed the little black box and tucked it into the pocket of my jeans. Who knew rabbit could smell so good? I found my way down to the counter and took a front row seat.

It only took this long for Flapjack and Lily to decide on a date to do their little cook off, and I had to laugh because they both were having so much fun. Flapjack tried to taste her meat but got met with a slap to the hand. Lily giggled and continued to bait him with sarcastic remarks about how his rabbit looked.

Oh how I loved that sound. I would do anything to hear her laugh every day. I straightened in my seat and looked at the clock. Time was passing too slowly, and yet, it was rapidly approaching. Tomorrow we were leaving on Lily’s first job with us to look for Fox’s sister. But I had another promise to keep on our way. Boulder’s request still weighed heavy on my mind and I knew I couldn’t just send his sister money, but I knew I needed to give it to her in person.

“Jacob,” Lily met me at the counter with a sweet kiss. “Mmm, you taste good.”

I laughed. “Not as good as you.”

She climbed up in my lap and leaned her head against mine. “That’s because I just tasted my rabbit. It is so good.”

“Alright, Rabbit, no bribing the judges!” Flapjack warned. “It’s already not fair that you’re sleeping with one of them. I’m pretty sure that’s favoritism. Biased votes shouldn’t count.”

Lily splayed a hand across her chest. “Are you saying I’m only sleeping with Jacob for the votes?”

Diesel and the others walked in. “Is it time to eat yet? I’m starving and you all are in here teasing us with these smells.”

Lily jumped up and grabbed her dish, making sure to get hers to the table before Flapjacks. “We’re just waiting on Carter.”

I laughed and joined her at the head of the table. “Before we start, I’d like to make a toast of sorts.”

Diesel grinned knowingly, as did the others. Hell, they all knew. I dropped to my knee and pulled out the box, lifting the lid for her to see. “Lily, you are my heart. My life. I would spend forever protecting you, if you’ll let me. Will you marry me?” My heart raced as I said the practiced words aloud.

She dropped to her knees and grabbed me around the neck. “Yes!”

I pulled back to take the ring from the box and slip it onto her hand, branding her as mine. Forever it would be us. Jacob and Lily Cardosa, together, always.

Thank you for reading Jacob and Lily’s story! I’m working on Diesel and Samantha’s story right now and let me just say… WOW.

Look for these titles in Spring 2020.

  Diesel and Samantha’s Duet:

  I’ll Be What She WANTS

  I’ll Be What He NEEDS

If you loved or even hated this story, please consider leaving a review! It may not seem important to you, or you could just be pissed off at me right now, but it really does make a difference! Anyone can do this. It doesn’t take a beautiful speech to write a review. Even mumbled incoherent words work. Kinda like that movie Warm Bodies? The zombies passed each other and tossed sounds out, but they knew what the other zombie meant! Readers are the same. We know what you mean. It could be: Loved. Hate. Incredible. SEXY. Need cold shower, now. And boom… a review is written. Okay, I spoke my piece, the rest is up to you. Review here:
