“Oh, it wasn’t just one pearl. It was a lot of different things. I’m full of ideas on how to get girls.”

“Yeah, you’re definitely full of something.”

“You doubt my prowess with women? I managed to get you, didn’t I?”

Susan gave him a hug. “I was just feeling sorry for you. I knew if I didn’t agree to go out with you, you’d probably spend the rest of your life a lonely, lonely man.”

Susan gave him a kiss on the cheek and then continued to clear the dishes from the kitchen table.

“I wonder why Trevor didn’t invite her over for supper so we could meet her and get to know a little more about her?”

“I think you just answered your own question,” Dave said. “When they get here, give the kid a break. Don’t be grilling them with questions.”

“I don’t grill people,” Susan said. “I just want to make sure she’s – you know – suitable for my baby.”

“Just don’t do anything to scare her off,” Dave said. “Trevor seems to have a habit of messing things up all on his own. He doesn’t need your help.”

Trevor and his new girlfriend showed up at the back door about ten minutes later. Duddly raced to the door to greet them.

“Hi Mom. Hi Dad. Boy, it’s really starting to get cold out there.”

Amanda stood half behind Trevor. It was hard to tell if she was shivering from fright or because she was wearing a very thin coat.

“Mom, Dad, this is Amanda,” Trevor said.

“Hello,” Amanda said, emerging from behind Trevor. She shook Dave’s hand, but that wasn’t good enough for Susan. She gave Amanda a big hug.

Duddly’s tail was wagging vigorously. Amanda knelt down to pet him and he licked her hand in approval.

Susan invited them to sit at the kitchen table. “So how did you two meet?”

Amanda sat down at the table, but Trevor continued to stand. “We’re just here for the skates, Mom.”

“We met at the grocery store,” Amanda said. “I work there part-time and Trevor has become one of our regular customers.”

Dave leaned over and whispered into his wife’s ear. “It was my suggestion that grocery stores were a good place to meet women.”

Susan ignored him. “Do you work at the Valu-Shop on 5th? I don’t remember seeing you there.”

“No, I actually work at the Mega-Shop on the far side of town,” Amanda said.

“Trevor, why would you be shopping for groceries way over there?” Susan asked.

Trevor didn’t want to get into it. “The skates, Mom. We’re just here for the skates.”

Susan asked Dave to get them from the basement.

“It’ll take him a few minutes to find them,” she said. “Have you two eaten? It’ll only take me a few seconds to whip something up.”

“No thanks, Mom,” Trevor said. “We just went out for supper. We just popped over for the skates.”

Amanda noticed the flowers sitting in the middle of the table. “Oh, what lovely roses. I love flowers.”

“Amanda wants to open her own flower shop someday,” Trevor said.

  “That sounds delightful,” Susan said.

Dave emerged from the basement with the skates. “These are size seven. Are you sure they’re going to fit?”

“That’s perfect,” Amanda said. “I’m a size seven as well.”

Trevor saw this as their opportunity to make their escape. “Okay, we should probably get going.”

Susan noticed the skimpy coat Amanda was wearing. “It’s getting quite cold out there. Are you sure you’re going to be warm enough in that jacket?”

“I’m sure I’ll be fine,” Amanda said.

Susan turned to her son. “Trevor, why don’t you let Amanda wear your football jacket? You can borrow one of your father’s coats.”

Trevor took off his jacket and helped Amanda put it on. She had a huge smile on her face as she spun around modelling the jacket. “What do you think, Trevor?”

Trevor was about to say that he thought the coat looked better on him, but stopped just in time. The coat was much too big for her, but he saw how she snuggled into it.

“You look great – real cute!”

Maybe he was starting to finally understand women.

Amanda gave him a kiss. “Yeah, I think so too.”

“We should really get going,” Trevor said.

Trevor grabbed one of his father’s coats from the closet and they headed for the door.

“You two should come over for supper sometime,” Susan said. “I’ve got a new recipe I think you’ll like. Vegetable lasagna!”

They watched as Trevor and Amanda left.

“I think Amanda might be the right girl for Trevor,” Susan said.

“Yeah, me too,” Dave said. “And it’s all because of my fatherly advice.”

  “Yes, dear.”

  The Second Shooter

It has been widely speculated that the FBI, CIA and Secret Service have been hiding the existence of critical evidence as to those involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The JFK Records Act requires that all records related to the assassination be released to the public by October 26, 2017, unless the President deems their release would cause grave harm to the nation. When some of these potentially dangerous records are accidentally released, forces within the government attempt to recover them using whatever means necessary, including the elimination of anyone who may have seen them.

In the sequel to “Goliath”, David and Robert Shaw head off to university and find themselves drawn into the world of shadow governments and secret societies. Despite the work of an investigative journalist to uncover the truth, and the efforts of their father to protect them, they find themselves squarely in the crosshairs of “The Second Shooter”.
