  “So, he came after you?”

“He came after my fighters. Lured five away with a chance to make more money. But Troll was not one of them. I don’t usually go searching for fighters, because they can be temperamental after a bad fight. Some fighters can’t take the hit to their pride – and never come back. Troll was good, he wouldn’t have left.”

“Sounds like you care about him. The same way you care about Naff.”

“We’re not close, but I respect them as savage fighters.”

They were friends. He just didn’t want to admit it, she thought.

She touched Cabute’s head with her forehead and lowered her lips over his briefly. “I don’t like thinking about you being hurt.”

Cabute lowered her to the ground and pulled her neck up so she had to see and hear him speak. “I was born to fight. And there may be times when I must fight to determine the strength of a potential fighter. I appreciate your thoughts; I like that you care.”

“I do care.” Mali felt tears well up at the corner of her eyes. She didn’t want to cry, but until she was in the cage seeing him bleeding and limping she had no idea how much she cared.

It wasn’t the heat of the moment; it had been building for years.

Cabute’s body sagged to the ground. His body surrounded hers, both of his hands on each side of her head. His mouth along her neck as he spoke, “I never felt so terrified as I did today. I can’t even explain how much it hurt to see you in the dirt with that Red Demon. And worse, I wasn’t able to kill him. Naff took my kill.”

She felt his shudder and knew he meant every word.

Wrapping her arms around his neck she held on to him. He pulled his own arms around her and held her too.

Not for seconds or a few minutes, but twenty full minutes of holding on to one another, bonding.

Cabute’s steady breathing lulled her into a faux sleep. She was awake, but all thoughts and feelings were lulled to nothing. When her Angny pushed up, he carried her with both hands into his bathroom.

Setting her on the counter he slipped his hands under her shirt and pulled it off. Then gripped her short shorts and ripped them at the seams. The fabric whispered to her feet. Cabute removed his own clothes before pushing her into the upgraded stone shower with no door.

There were three shower heads, and a drizzle from the top. It was all-encompassing, soothing. She only felt Cabute’s rough fingers as he touched her. Relaxing under his rough hands, she let her head rest against the warm stones.

He lathered the soap and started at the back of her neck. He massaged her neck, shoulders, and arms. His touch was tender and quiet.

She didn’t know if he would do more. Even if he did, she wouldn’t have stopped him. Too tired.

His hands rubbed over her breast and gently pinched her nipple. She sucked in a breath and arched her back. His body moved closer to hers and his breath was hot in her ear. “Ready?”

  “Yes,” she said.

One hand continued to pinch and play with her nipple as another moved down to her sex and cupped it possessively. One of his digits slipped in between her folds and rocked from back to front. Slow and steady. Warming her from the inside and making her feel a part of him. This was what she wanted for so long, and now she had it. His touch, his attention, his devotion.

But his slow drags were not enough.

  “Spread your legs wider.”

She did and felt the difference immediately. With a moan she took in a long deep breath. Cabute kissed and nipped along her neck and shoulder. It all felt so good, but again, not enough. She was greedy after waiting so long; she wanted to come and did not want to wait for it.

When his finger slipped inside her channel, she cried out. “Yes!”

Moving inside her wetness, he rubbed and played and never once touched one of her clit. Maybe he didn’t know how to touch her?

She reached down to move his hand when he growled, “Take your hand off. Or you won’t come.”

  Mali stiffened.

He nipped her ear. “Get mad and I will make this take a lot longer.”

  “It’s already taking too long.”

He laughed in her ear and kissed her skin again. “My breeder is needy.”

Saying the word breeder made her stop and think. Did he mean to breed her now? Kids were more responsibility than the one plant she wanted. She couldn’t fit kids into her life as an executive.

Mali blinked. Oh yeah, she wasn’t an executive anymore.

  “Stop thinking, Mali.”

Cabute probably wouldn’t even let her work again if she wanted. And after what she went through, she didn’t want to be an executive anymore. She didn’t want to travel from place to place seeing people that didn’t care about her the second she left.

Cabute did more than nip her neck, he clamped down on a mouthful, making her knees completely give out. He grabbed her to stop her from falling.

Cabute carried her to his bed, dried her hair and took care to dab carefully at her tender ankle. On the bed, he took a leg in each hand and pulled her open, exposing her tender lips.

“Most of my kind do not take breeders in our mouths. We take them, fill them and keep them safe and fed as they birth our children. But most of my kind have not met a breeder so beautiful they would want to satisfy her.”

And she thought he wasn’t charming? Pfft.

Cabute drew his tusks over her lower belly. At first it was smooth and then she felt a sharp, painful scrape. She hissed.

“Angnys score our life breeders with our scent and our mark. Anyone who makes the mistake to think they can have you, they will know by the depth of these marks how completely obsessive I am, and how I will kill anyone who touches you.”

Mali felt small scrapes followed by his kisses and the licks to her clit. Then more scrapes, more painful, and then more pleasure.

Her chest shook with confusion at how much she liked and hated what he was doing. Then he dug in one tusk and it made her cry out. “That’s all. I’m done. You took my mark and it will scar perfectly.”

She honestly didn’t care about the scar. Not at all.

  Well, maybe a little.

She tried to get away from him to check herself over.

His mouth came over her wound, licked it and then worked his way down. The sting was still there, and she absolutely was not in the mood anymore.

His hot tongue swirled perfectly around her little pearl and she gasped. The blood in her body rushed down, and the added sting made it a good pain. He sucked and sucked and licked and she kept the tension building inside her.

Exhaling she grabbed the bed comforter. The fur was dark and grey and pliable enough to dig her nails into.

  She was close.

He slid up his tongue and sucked and that’s all it took. She broke apart, crying out, coming harder than she ever had in her life. It kept going, and he kept sucking. It was so much her leg trembled.

He stopped and moved up to her face, saw her eyes. “Still mine?”

Her body still living out the bliss of her last orgasm she said, “Yes. Always. Past and present.”

“And future,” he said just as the crown of his sex breached her entrance.

Her channel had to give way to his size. It was another sting and she wasn’t a fan of pain, but when he moved to her neck and sucked the side, she fell into a haze of pleasure.

Cabute had filled her completely. So much so that the world fell away and she was at his mercy.

He pulled out and drove back in not hard, but not soft. She arched her back at the tingles. “Cabute.” She said in a prayer and moan.

His hand moved down to her breast, and he massaged and then squeezed the tip just as he rammed inside. That was even better, and he didn’t give up. He savaged her, plunging in deep, so deep she swore she could taste him.

  “Come with me inside you.”

She heard him, and wanted to give him what he wanted, and coming again. She concentrated on his thrust, tilted
her hips up and he went deeper pressing hard against her sensitive spot inside.

  Almost.

  “Now. Mali.”

  Almost.

“Mali,” he growled taking her neck and pressing his brow to hers. “Now.”

He shoved himself hard, and that was all it took. “Yes, Yesssss,” she said clamping down on his thick sex, braking apart in a million white hot flurries of pleasure.

His fingers dug into her sides as he rammed one last time with a pained look on his face. “MALI!”

Her thighs squeezed his hips as he filled her with a wash of hot seed. He jerked, and she reached up and pulled him down on top of her. He was heavy, and she stopped breathing at first.

Cabute moved to his elbows and nipped her lip. “Mine.”

Mali was on her stomach, heavy in sleep when she heard pounding from somewhere. It took a long time, forever, to slug out of her blissful sleep to open her eyes. The bedroom wasn’t hers. Not only did she not know where she was, she felt sore… everywhere.

“I’m going to kill our neighbors. If Naff does not kick them out soon…” Cabute mumbled as his hand wrapped around her and pulled her back into his chest.

  Naff? Neighbors?

  Cabute’s bed.

Everything came back with a flood and she knew exactly why she was sore. She sighed and hoped to repeat last night again. Intertwining her fingers into his she pulled his hands against her chest. She liked his touch, his scent all over her body, and mostly she liked how terrified he looked when he thought something had happened to her. She liked seeing his raw emotions.

He wasn’t a talker, but his actions spoke volumes.

She felt his nip the back of her shoulder and neck and it turned her on. Taking his hand, she pulled the fleshy part of his palm to her mouth and nipped his skin, digging in with her teeth to make sure he could feel it.

Behind her, he growled. “Mali…you just accepted me as a life partner. Did you know that?”

Did she? No. And why didn’t he tell her about that before?

Twisting around, she moved over his chest, enjoying how natural it felt to touch Cabute’s grey skin. “So, you lied. I do get a say in our mating.”

“You didn’t. I was taking you regardless of your acceptance.”

  She lifted a challenging eyebrow.

“It’s good that you accepted it though. I like it better that way.”

  Wow, arrogant.

He lifted her until she was straddling his pelvis. She could feel his length pulse. He was already hard, and she was already wet.

Pressing her hands to his chest she said, “You’re sexy and I love you, but you’re acting like you’re always going to get your way. But you need to be prepared for reality.“

His eyes softened. “You love me?”

She swallowed feeling a little unsure if she said that word too fast. It was true she did love him. Probably loved him from the moment they moved in. But up to this point he only said how much he wanted her. Not how much he loved her.

“You said it once, are you thinking of taking it back?” he asked, rubbing a thumb over her hip.

  “No.”

“No? As in you don’t mean it?”

“I mean it. I do love you. Have for a long time. But I thought for years it was just me.”

He held her eyes for a moment and she wondered if he wasn’t going to respond. “You never gave me any indication you were interested.”

“I’m pretty sure I did.” Although she couldn’t think of one thing she did or said.

“You didn’t, or I would have claimed you years ago.”

He liked her years ago? A flash of heat rose in her blood. How much time had they wasted?

His thumb brushed over her hip again before he said, “I love you too, Mali.”

Her lips pulled back by themselves and a flood of warmth blanketed her with his admission. “Good.”

His face softened more. “Good. Now what’s this about me not understanding my reality?“

Oh yeah…“That as your life breeder, I run our home. I’m a Sennite at heart.”

His lip twitched. “Perhaps you are a Sennite at heart. But I run the house because I will do most of the cooking and scheduling. But I will always keep you in mind, and we will want the same things. I’ve watched you long enough to know your routines.”

The male was irritating in that he was making too much sense.

His hips moved and his hands rubbed the side of her thighs, and she had a good idea what he was instigating. And damn it if she didn’t want the same thing.

Hours later she was limp laying over her mate’s chest when he said, “We need to get up, I’ve made an appointment to look at our new home.”

  Mali could only stare.

He was moving them into a house? Mali scrambling off the bed to get dressed, curious and excited about what kind of house he chose for them.

The house was full sized, six rooms, six bathrooms, furnished and elegantly decorated. It lacked the family pictures and homeliness that she grew up with, but the good thing was, she could see herself adding those things and making it a home.

It was perfect. Like a dream house. Outside the house had green grass and near the door were boxes of yellow flowers. They filled the air with the scent of honey.

When they finished walking through the place the realtor walked out still talking about the community and schools. Cabute shut the door, effectively locking the male outside. “Do you like it?”

  “Did you design it?”

“Some. You didn’t answer me,” he asked a little more demanding.

“I like it. I just wished it smelled like you the way the apartment does.”

His eyes darkened. “I can take care of that.”

  “Then I love it.”

He pulled her in for a hot kiss. “Good. My breeder likes her house.”

“You know what else I’d like?”

  He waited.

  “A relbrener.”

His face fell. “The Bolark plant?”

She nodded. “That’s why I went to the nursery, to look at it, thinking one day I would have the time to take care of one. You know they are temperamental, right? And they can kill other plants if they aren’t taken care of.”

His thumb rubbed her jaw. “I will get you a relbrener today. But we are hiring a gardener to take care of it. I’ve seen how you boil water.”

“Hey,” she said slapping his chest playfully. “That was only twice.”

He let her go and opened the door. The realtor wasn’t looking at them when they walked out, but she assumed he saw them kissing. He was professional enough to show them the rest of the grounds without it being awkward.

Mali thought life was moving fast, but the confidence that Cabute had instilled in her allowed her to forget her fears. He had everything under control. Two years of prep paid off. She wished it didn’t have to take that long, but she wouldn’t go back and change a thing. Everything lead her to this moment.

Being with her mate, buying a home for their family.

Eleven months later they welcomed their daughter into the world. And with Cabute’s agreement, she named their daughter Malabu, a combination of both their names.

The best part about her new family was seeing Malabu in the enormous arms of her mate. Cabute never looked more snuggly and gentle as he did with their daughter.
