Playing the Game (Drekinn Book 7)

When he was done, he threw the cloth on the floor and crawled back in beside her, resting his hand on her stomach. His brother curled up and did the same, and that was how they fell asleep. All of them dreamed about the day when she would carry their child, it was an amazing dream to have for Sadie, especially since she never thought she would live to find her mates. She was so blessed, the only other thing she wanted was Rebekka gone.
Chapter Sixteen
The town council sat down for their meeting, things had been tense of late. But all of them seeing Sadie and interacting with her knew what they had to do, the girl had overcome her torture and come out sweet and kind, it was a miracle. They needed to prepare, after hearing what happened with Sadie, they had called everyone home. There was no other way around it, they couldn’t chance something worse happening to one of the children.
“We end her,” Cami snapped and looked around the table as everyone agreed with her. “Not only did she hurt Sadie, she kidnapped and tortured some of our own. This shit ends now, I don’t give a rat’s ass how we do it, but I want that bitch’s head on a platter.”
Quin sighed and looked around the room, everyone was in agreement, hell, he was in agreement, but it would mean leaving their protection. “Honey,” he started to say.
“No, I already know what you are going to say, and dammit, right now, I don’t give two shits. We end her, they can deal with rest, but I want just her.”
“We will put some feelers out,” Quin sighed and Cami leaned back smiling with her arms crossed, feelers my ass, she thought. She would get vengeance for Sadie and soon.
Jaden leaned forward. “What did the tests say?”
The mayor stood and looked around the room and sighed. “We have the reports. I can’t explain this but Sabrina is Kira, Jaden, and Dalton’s child, there is no doubt.”
Cami sucked in her breath when she heard the words, even though in her heart she knew Jaden would never had cheated on her, still the evidence was there. So how could this have happened? How could they have gotten enough of their DNA to create Sabrina, none of it made sense, and yet Sabrina was here in the flesh.
Kira cleared her throat and looked around the room and said, “Okay, just to point out, I am pretty sure I would have actually known if I carried a child to full term and then gave birth. There is no way I would not have remembered that, so it stands to reason, they somehow figured out how to clone shifters. They tortured my Sadie, they created a child from my DNA whom I never knew I had, robbed me of her life, robbed her of a family, they are sick fuckers and I am with Cami, we end that bitch.”
They were all quiet, years ago humans had learned how to clone animals, then humans, but they had never figure out how to clone a shifter, or magical being.
“If that is the case,” the mayor said quietly. “Then we have a bigger problem than what we thought.”
Cami nodded. “Of course we do, and just to say, I am ending this shit. Now I get that we need to be discrete and I am not planning on going out into the human world and shooting people and going rogue. What I am saying is we send a small group of people out, and we bring her back to us.”
Quin pursed his lips thinking, Cami knew her mate would allow this, especially since Jaden had been so devastated at somehow being used, he wanted answers, it was killing their mate not knowing how this happened. Quin would move heaven and earth for his mates, and Cami loved him for it, she was also going to make sure she was one of the ones who went.
“Alright, let’s come up with a plan,” Quin said slowly and Cami grinned.
The Drekinn was finally settled and ready to end this shit once and for all. The pack knew that their time was coming, it was going to be win or die for them against the Prentiss. They were gaining support, which was good. With each new person who showed up in Drake, they became more and more confident the magical community was more than ready to set the record straight.
Everyone was doing what they had to do in order to make sure they succeeded. Calli and Kade were reaching out and making alliances; Cherri and her mates were in the lab, trying to figure out how and why the Prentiss had been cloning; Rissa and her mates were monitoring the web, digging out leads and other information to help them get where they needed to be; Kiki and his mates were working with the packs who had arrived to join them. Surprisingly, Kiki had actually gotten Storm and Rayne’s group, which wasn’t really a pack but still a group to join them. The twins were grateful to all of in their group and wanted then to stay. Anna the oldest of the group who had traveled with them had even taken over the running of the pack house, she cooked and cleaned, organized everything, it was kinda awesome. Trina had been researching, and Sabrina was now helping her, which left them with no trainer, nothing the Alphas had said changed Sabrina’s mind, so Pilar and her mates took over that aspect. Sadie and her mates were now working to decide where they could help, Sadie needed to come into her own and her mates were helping her by getting her up to speed about the Drekinn.
Hope and her mates had checked in a couple of times but none of them knew exactly where they were. All in all, everything was finally moving in the right direction.
Hope, Gio, and Mak all stared at the door waiting for the two vampire/hybrids to appear, they knew the Prentiss should be transporting the two today since they had stolen one of the guard’s links. Knowing the Prentiss had two of the ones they had been searching for scared the crap outta them. Sadie had been tortured, they had to be planning the same thing for these two. Hope and her mates were going to stop them though.
The Prentiss had made a mistake, and they wanted to get back to Drake to show the others. In their panic to contain the Drekinn, they had released pictures of everyone they were looking for. This was going to give the Drekinn a leg up now though, they no longer were flying blind, they had faces and they just needed to match them to names. Hopefully soon they would be able to get all of the ones they were seeking.
“Coming out the side,” Mak whispered and Hope looked. There they were. She stepped forward and her mates followed, but the guards didn’t notice them until it was too late. Shit, they were collared, what the fuck was that about?
“Collars?” Mak whispered. “That is new.”
“Look,” Gio pointed to the guard in the back. “He is holding a trigger.”
“My gods,” Hope whispered. “This is what they were doing now?”
They all knew what the collars were, Calix had told them about them. They were put on the captives and used to keep them from running, one wrong move and the guard could push the button and they would explode.
“We have to take out the guard first,” Mak said and Hope growled, sick fuckers needed their own collars.
“You go for the guards; I will take the two vamps,” Hope whispered.
“Get away as far as you can, just in case we fail, I don’t want them in range if they push the button,” Mak said grimly.
Hope nodded slowly and then looked at her mates. “I will be back.”
“No,” Gio said and pointed to the vamps. “Get them away and we will meet in Drake.”
She nodded and then kissed both of her mates quickly. “Let’s go.”
Hope and her mates moved quickly, they were on the guards before they could even see them coming. She grabbed both of the vamps and popped them into the middle of the Drekinn Pack main room.
“What the fuck?” Reese said and Hope turned around and grinned.
“Well,” Rissa laughed and hit the vamp on the shoulder and said, “Welcome to the Drekinn.”
Nian shook his head and looked at Reese, his best friend, and said, “She told you they would come for us.”
“What?” Hope asked.
“Some tiny chick in the elevator we were in when they brought us down. She was in the back and whispered into our ear. We thought she was talking about someone else. I mean, we didn’t know her or anything. Never saw her before so…”
Mak and Gio appeared out of breath and without the trigge
r. “What happened?” Hope asked.
“We went for the guard like we planned but shit went fucking wild. One second we were fighting them, we could hear more men coming, they were yelling for backup. Then there was an explosion of some kind and we all went down. I grabbed Gio and got the fuck outta there,” Mak said.
Trina ran into the room waving something over her head. “Okay, just saying, I am the fucking bomb,” she paused for the drama, and didn’t realize two very large men were staring at her intently and she grinned. “Looky what I found!”
It looked like a poster, and they all just stared at her and she waited, one of them were going to have to ask. They were being killjoys, the drama over the last bit had taken its toll on all of them. They knew it and they still were recovering from it.
“Aww, come on,” Trina snapped.
“Okay, I will bite, what is it?” Calli drawled and Trina turned and winked at her Alpha.
“A family tree!” she practically screamed. “I found the official family tree of the Chosen and the Senate.”
“Mine,” one of the vamps said and Trina finally noticed something wasn’t right. She turned to apologize and her mouth dropped open.
“Holy shit, the trees are speaking,” Trina whispered and then she sniffed and her eyes narrowed. “Fuck a duck,” she whispered and Calli started laughing.
Epilogue
Rebekka moaned and rolled over. What the fuck had just happened? she wondered. Trying to fight the pain she was feeling, she opened her eyes, where the hell was she?
The room was empty, and she was laying on a wood floor. Pushing herself up, she looked around and frowned. The last thing she remembered was being rushed out of the building after an explosion out front. Her guards had been yelling at her to run, but she had been frozen.
She heard the clicks in the doorknob and pushed herself off the floor and waited, she would cower to no one. When the door opened a group of women walked into the room led by the one woman, Rebekka backed up.
“That’s right, bitch, your day of reckoning has arrived,” Cami snarled and then Kira came to her side.
“I get her first,” she said and Cami nodded.
“Yes you do, but I will have her last,” the Alpha said and held up her palm and Kira smacked it.
“Deal.”
“Okay, bitch, The Circle awaits.” Cami laughed and Rebekka frowned. “Don’t worry, I will give you a history lesson on the way, you will love this.”

Taming Team Ten Book One
By Jana Leigh
“Hey,” the large man who was driving said. “We are supposed to meet the foreman of the ranch.”
Slone grinned and looked at the men who were slowly lining up. Alex was slow to get there but ended up at the end of the line. Slone walked to him with a grin and held out his hand. “Alex, welcome home.”
Alex looked up stunned, and then he recognized his childhood friend and grinned. “Slone?”
“Yeah, I am your knew foreman, in charge of teaching you SEALs how to be cowboys,” Slone said with a chuckle and Alex grabbed his hand and did the one arm hug.
“Shit, man, I was gonna call you when I settled in. The dads said you were somewhere in Wyoming, I figured we could meet up. This is awesome, they didn’t tell me,” Alex said with a laugh.
“When they called me, I said I would be honored to help out, quit my job and hightailed it here. I beat you by a week,” Slone said and looked down the line at the rest of the men. “Hey, I am Slone Brate, the new foreman of the Second Chance Ranch, and you are Thane, Gage, Mason, Drake, Jessie and of course, Alex,” he said, naming each of the men correctly.
“Stalker?” Jessie asked and looked at him suspiciously.
“No,” Slone laughed. “Just making sure I know who I am supposed to be teaching. Dallas and Noah filled me in.”
LC stepped forward and held out his hand. “Yep, you can call me Thane.”
The others did the same and Alex felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. His friend would help teach them ranching, and the men could decide if this was what they wanted to do for the rest of their lives, or if they just wanted a piece of land to retire on. With their VA retirement for medical reasons, they were able to at least have some money coming in to help pay for things, and since none of them had lived in the country in the last few years so their pay had stacked up to a nice tidy sum.
“The big house has enough bedrooms for all of you,” Slone pointed. “Let’s get you settled and then we can talk, then I can give you a tour of the ranch and we can start first thing in the morning.
All of them nodded and looked around curiously but followed Slone into the large house. There was an older woman and man in the foyer waiting for them. They all looked at Alex who shrugged.
The woman smiled and with tears in her eyes, she walked to each of them and hugged them saying as she did, “I am Louise, the cook and housekeeper, and this is my husband, Timothy, who is a handyman and wrangler that is going to help you out. Welcome home, and I am so happy you are all here, if you need anything you tell me. Now, I have a nice pot roast and potatoes, green beans and a nice chocolate cake for you. When you are ready, come down, and I will get your favorites written down.”
The m
en looked stunned and accepted the woman’s hug, and then mumbled in return. They weren’t quite sure what to do about this show of emotion. It just wasn’t what they were used to.
“Thanks,” Alex said and looked down to the floor.
Her husband walked up, stuck out his hand, and said gruffly, “Welcome.”
Alex looked at the older man warily and shook his hand. It was firm, and the look of understanding crossed the older man's face and Alex looked at the others as they followed, and he saw the kindred spirits all relax with the man's handshake. This was the right move, Alex knew it.
