He was done here, but he had money stashed and he could start somewhere else. It was better than prison and better than having Gianni find him. He would head to Mexico where he had a sweet little house waiting for him.
The doctor just finished fixing his leg and they had moved him to a room.
Oh no, he did not intend to stay and as soon as the nurse left, he himself was leaving.
The door shut and he got up. It was damn hard to do in a cast but he did it.
He was grabbing his winner’s jacket that they had brought to him as the paramedics had it for a bit.
He heard the door and expected to have to argue with a nurse. Turning, he sucked in a breath.
It was no nurse—it was Gianni himself. Oh, fuck and the man looked enraged too.
“You dumbass hick!” he sneered. “All you had to do was one damn thing,” Gianni seethed.
Jed knew he needed a weapon or something, but he had nothing here. “My man was supposed to take care of it but he fucked up.”
“Oh, yeah? Well, this is your last fuck up. I needed the money from that win as you and your damn family have cost me plenty. I was supposed to cash in on your victory with a major Bookie, but I am done with believing your promises. And your family is as good as dead too. Your sister is having an accident today when they move her to the State pen.” He held a gleaming knife in his hand.
Jed stared at him and then down at the knife. “You can’t get away with—”
“The fuck I can’t! I can do anything I want!”
The door quietly opened behind Gianni and Jed stared at a man he never saw before. A man with light grey eyes and in those eyes, he saw a gleam that made his skin crawl.
“Well, not just anything,” the man spoke in a smooth voice.
Gianni spun around. “The fuck, Vincinti!” He looked utterly shocked. “How did you...” He raised his knife.
The man smiled and raised a gun with a silencer on it. “Never bring a knife to a gun battle, my friend.” He seemed calm and cool. “I caught that contract you put out on my father, you know. No one hurts my family.”
Gianni dropped the knife and raised his hands. “You can’t mean to kill me right here with a witness and all!”
Vincinti smiled as he raised his weapon. “I can do anything I want.”
Conclusion
A Month Later...
Deke Tory was happy to be standing where he was today. It was a huge event and he felt proud to be part of it. The entire MC was here in fact, they all wanted to get inside ASAP too. Well, they would damn well have to stand in line behind him. He had clout enough to be the first inside today. He gazed around at the crowd. People looked so excited and he couldn’t blame them. He was glad everything had been taken care of, though how it had all happened was a mystery to the locals and the law enforcement too.
It had been proven by video tape that Jace Wright had flashed a laser light from the stands into Dante’s car. Only one of Calderone’s men had spotted him with it in his hand and called Mountain, because it would take a couple of minutes to get to the man through the stands. He was arrested right there in the race pit after he came down to get his things and leave. He kept screaming that Jared had made him do it and that it wasn’t his fault.
So, at least one of Jed minions was talking and once that happened the others would too, in order to get witsec protection.
The only problem had been was... protection from whom? The cops never found Jed Stroker or his accomplice, Gianni Antonelli. The authorities were still searching for both men. According to witnesses and camera footage at the hospital entrances, both men had been there at the hospital, but no one saw either man leave. No video existed of them leaving either.
Deke knew though and so did a few others. Well, they took guesses, as they never had it confirmed. They kept those guesses to themselves though.
Also, it seemed that Abigail Stroker would be transferred back to custody and stand trial finally after a month in the hospital. Seems her bus turned over when she was being transferred to State prison. Poor girl had suffered a broken jaw and lacerations to her face. Deke couldn’t feel any pity for the girl and according to doctors, she was going to be scarred all along the left side of her face and being in prison for her infractions with the law, she didn’t qualify for plastic surgery as the injuries weren’t the kind to threaten her wellbeing. Deke hoped she would learn a little humbleness and dignity now that she didn’t have her good looks anymore.
The crowd cheered as the main person of the hour was arriving.
Deke shouted out, “QUIET! This is supposed to be a surprise!”
The MC Brothers all stood quietly now, but rest of the crowd all kept talking and laughing.
A huge man stepped up and yelled, “He said... Shut. The. Fuck. Up!”
The crowd heard that and most looked a bit frightened by the person that had yelled it.
Mountain looked satisfied that he’d done his job as he crossed his arms over his massive chest and nodded at Deke.
The car finally pulled up to the curb and Dante Morgan hopped out to go around to the passenger side. He raised his finger to his lips at the bystanders who were standing along the sidewalk.
He then opened the passenger door and helped a beautiful woman out of it. She wore a yellow sundress and it set off her long red hair. She was blindfolded and laughing. “Dante, babe. Come on! I mean I can’t see anything and I don’t know where the hell we are.”
“Just another minute, sweet girl.” Dante chuckled.
Deke stared at her then up at the building and shook his head at all the ribbons and the bright paint. It all looked brand new and bright. The sign was a gleaming one with swirls of chocolate around the edges that read, The Candy Girl.
Dante stood her right in front of the double glass doors, then pulled off her blindfold.
The crowd cheered.
Andi jumped at the sound, as she hadn’t expected to be with about two hundred people standing on a sidewalk and gazing up at her brand new Chocolate shop. She stared and stared. Then she cried as she raised her hands to her mouth. “Oh, my god!” Turning with tears in her eyes, she literally jumped into Dante’s arms.
Dante pulled her up and kissed her soundly.
The crowd cheered.
Sam stood next to Deke and grumbled, “So when do we get in there and get some of that damn chocolate?”
Deke just laughed and shook his head as he joined in the crowd’s applause

At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories, I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book
