I withdraw from her and swipe my tongue along that soaked cunt, lapping her juices. Her pussy is addictive. I can’t get enough of the taste. “Fuck,” I say, my tongue stroking her. “You’re fucking intoxicating.” Then I get up. “But we’re not done. You said you wanted something else.”

“For you to fuck me,” she says in a throaty voice.

I nod. My cock is still hard as hell, pulsing, the shaft and head engorged with the need to explode. I move up until I’m over her, and then I push into her cunt. I can’t stop the groan that spills out of me. Holy shit, this is heaven, this is where I belong, and I never want to be anywhere else.

Her knees lift slowly and she wraps her thighs around me to take me deeper.

I don’t need more of an invitation. I withdraw, then plunge back in, and she’s wetter than I could have imagined. She gasps in time with my movements, nails clenching my shoulders. I lean down and bite the tip of her nipple, working it between my teeth. Not to hurt a lot, just enough to give a flash of intensity. Her shudders and the gush of liquid that coats my cock tell me she likes it.

I am relentless. A machine. I drill her like my life depends on it.

And in a way, it does.

Sweat slicks our bodies together, and I can’t keep my hands off her. My mouth off her. Marissa writhes and moans. I grab her hips and flip us until she’s riding me.

I want to touch those beautiful breasts, watch her bouncing up and down on my dick.

Her bound hands rest on my chest as she works her way up and down on my shaft, testing it out slowly at first, then finding a rhythm that makes both of us gasp and moan. I grab her hips harder, helping to slam us together.

“I’ve never done this before,” she says breathily. “It feels…amazing.”

With a smirk, I reach between the two of us and brush my thumb along her clit. She jerks in surprise.

  “Oh, God!”

“Gives me perfect access,” I say, continuing to touch her while she fucks me. I cup her breast with my other hand, and my balls get tight as my orgasm inches closer. When she reaches her bound hands together to stroke her own nipples, I almost lose it. I’m so fucking close.

I flick her quicker, eager for her to come again on me before I release. “Give me that come, baby,” I pant. “I want you to come on top of me.”

She throws her head back and groans, and then her whole body is still as her hips squeeze my torso impossibly tight. I almost can’t breathe. She’s shuddering, squeezing me, her orgasm sweeping over her in a rush.

And then I’m coming, unloading into her, gripping her to keep her as close as humanly possible.

It takes us a minute to relax and unwind. She slides off me, and I remove the belt from her wrists, massaging them to ease the stiffness. I turn her to her side and curl against her back.

Right where I want to be. Right where I belong.

“I missed this,” I tell her. “Every night, I’d lie in bed and miss feeling you. Smelling you on the sheets, on my skin.”

She purrs under my slow strokes. “I still can’t believe you’re here with me. I really thought that was it for us. It’s kinda…” She pauses. “Well. It’s surprising to hear you being so open with me now.”

I draw in a slow breath, the exhale puffing against her hair and stirring it a touch. “I grew up in a house filled with men. My father was the boss in our house, an aggressive male who didn’t take shit and didn’t show anyone what he felt. That’s how we were raised, and that’s how I got by. I told you I wasn’t like my other brothers, but I did learn that family trait.”

I can feel her nod. She’s quiet, listening.

“We opened Fugitives to compete with Outlaws and try to get it. I told you that before. But the pressure is mainly because of our father. He wanted us to continue his work while he’s in prison. And because we all want to please him, we did.”

“I understand about wanting to please parents,” she whispers, her fingers reaching over to stroke mine. “Sometimes it feels like nothing you do is good enough.”

“I was trying to be there for my brothers. Since Jamison and Zack bailed, Axel and Hale looked up to me. I couldn’t abandon them too. I couldn’t let myself fall in love.” I stare at the wall across from us. “But in supporting them, in putting their needs first, I let you down. I made you feel like you weren’t important to me. Like you weren’t worth the effort.”

I hear a small sniffle. Reach over and cup her closer to me.

“I’m following my heart now, Marissa,” I tell her. “My brothers have to follow their own paths, and I have to follow mine. And mine is with you. Irrevocably. You have me, all of me. I’ll never push you away like that again.”

Her watery exhale breaks my heart. “Thank you. I missed you so freaking much. This city just didn’t feel the way I wanted it to. I had what I wanted…except you. And none of it meant anything at all.”

I stroke her hip for a minute or two as we both sit in comfortable silence. “Hey. How about you show me around? We can grab a newspaper while we’re out so I can start trying to find a job.”

Marissa flips over to face me. Her eyes hold the first sign of hope I’ve seen in them since I arrived. “You’re really staying here, aren’t you.”

I take her hand and brush her knuckles against my mouth. “If you’ll have me.”

Her nod is my answer. I pull her into my arms and kiss her again until we’re both breathless. Then I tug her up to sitting and smack her ass.

“We’d better get going, then. I can’t be a deadbeat boyfriend.”

That makes her give a shy smile. “Boyfriend, huh?”

I lean forward and taste her mouth, whispering, “And soon, hopefully something more.”

When I pull back to look at her, her face glowing, cheeks flushed, hair mussed from our sex, I’m filled with a sense of rightness. This is exactly where I belong. Where I fit. With the woman who sees me as I am and opens herself to me. Who is complicated and intriguing and beautifully human.

“I’d like that,” she replies, her flush on her cheeks growing stronger.

We get dressed, and then I take her hand, and we walk out the motel door. “Show me everything there is to see,” I declare. “Or at least everything you’ve discovered.”

That makes her laugh. She eyes me, one brow raised. “Oh, so you want to know where to get coffee and where the library is?”

“You’ve been having some sexy adventures,” I tell her, laughing. “Way to nerd it up.”

She shoves her shoulder against my arm with a mock frown. “You’ll see. I’ll show you all the hippest spots in town.”

I tug her onto the sidewalk. “Then we’d better get started.”

  Epilogue

  Marissa

“I’m excited to see everyone again,” I tell Hudson, clenching his hand. We’re standing outside of Fugitives. It’s early spring, months since we left Rock Bridge. “Are you nervous?”

Hudson glances over at me, a thoughtful look on his face. “Nervous? No. Just hoping things will be okay. They were pretty pissed at me for leaving them.”

“Haven’t you guys talked since then?” I thought I heard them chatting every once in a while.

“Yeah, but you know us. Not about anything having to do with ‘feelings.’” He gives a lopsided grin and rolls his eyes.

I laugh and press a kiss to his jaw. “Fair enough. Let’s go in.”

We walk inside the bar, which is hopping with customers. The interior is arranged differently so there’s a small dance area on the side, and women are shaking their asses and hollering as men watch them. The walls have also been repainted a lighter color, which makes the room look bigger.

“It’s nice in here,” Hudson says, admiration in his tone. “They’ve done a good job.”

I tug him toward the back, where the bar is, and spot Axel serving drinks. “Hey!” I say.

He beams at me. “You made it! Everyone, this is my future sister-in-law, Marissa. She used to w
ork here until my asshole brother stole her.” He reaches over and grabs my left hand to check out my engagement ring, hamming it up for the laughing customers around us. “At least he wasn’t a cheapskate with the ring.”

Hudson goes behind the bar and hugs Axel in that manly hug thing that guys do. It looks a bit awkward, but at least they’re trying.

“Motherfucker, look what the cat just dragged in,” a familiar drawl says from behind me. I spin around and hug Hale, who picks me up and swings me around in his beefy arms. “You’re looking great! Where’s that brother of mine?”

He lets me down, and I point to him and Axel chatting. He goes over there and they exchange pleasantries.

I step back and watch the brothers for a moment, giving them space, my heart filled with happiness. Hudson wouldn’t admit it, but he was a bit anxious about coming home, hoping shit wouldn’t be tense due to him leaving.

After Hudson came to find me, I got a call for an interview at a prestigious start-up. They’re ambitious and driven to succeed, and they made me a good offer. Hudson learned coding and got a job there shortly after, writing software.

The heads of the company still can’t believe what a natural Hudson is. To have learned coding in such a short time and to be so good at it—they say his intelligence and gifts are off the charts.

But then again, I knew that about him already, so I wasn’t surprised.

Working together again is pretty awesome. We sneak and take breaks all the time, whenever we can.

He isn’t my boss anymore, but you wouldn’t know it from the way he bosses me around still. Not that I’m complaining.

Smiling to myself as I think about how strange and wonderful life can be, I come back to the present and this new reality we’ve wandered into.

I go over and join the brothers, and we all chat about this and that. The bar is doing well—their cross promotions with Outlaws has been successful, and now both bars are thriving. No one expected it would turn out this good. But I’m glad. They’ve all worked hard, and they deserve it.

Hudson reaches over and takes my hand in his, still chatting with his brothers. The comfort, the familiarity of his grip, how he isn’t afraid to show affection in front of them…I can’t help but smile and move closer. He shoots me a quick, affectionate grin and brushes a kiss to my forehead.

“Whoa,” Hale says, staring wide-eyed at us. “What the fuck did you do to my brother?”

Hudson barks out a laugh. “Shut up, ass.”

“Hudson is in loooove,” Axel teases over his shoulder; he’s gone back to serving customers. Business can’t be ignored. “Hey, Jamison and Zack are swinging by in a minute. They just texted me. They want to say hi.”

Sure enough, the other two Beckett brothers come storming through the doors.

“I’ll serve while you guys catch up,” I tell the brothers, shooing them out from behind the bar. “I still got some bartending chops in me.”

Hudson leans over and kisses me, so hot that we get a few wolf whistles from people watching. My face is burning, but he just winks. “I love you.”

“I love you too. Now get out of here before you ruin your badass reputation,” I tease him.

“Totally worth it.” He squeezes my ass and then goes to the entrance to chat with his other brothers.

In between serving drinks, I watch them. A family reunited. The tension seems pretty much gone now. Over the last few months, Hudson and I have talked about his past, about the cause of the drama and angst between them. I’ve gently encouraged him to reach out to his older brothers in an effort to help heal that hurt. He was resistant at first, but once they started talking again, I could see the old tension easing from him.

And they’re going to be my family soon. A family who wants me around, who loves me for who I am. A family who has my back and will never abandon me or make me feel unwanted.

I’m pretty sure I’m the luckiest woman in the world.

  Hale

The morning sun is slitting bright through the blinds on my bedroom window. I stretch and yawn, glancing at the clock—seven-thirty AM. Ugh. At least it’s fucking Monday, a day off from the bar. Too bad I couldn’t seem to sleep in as long as I wanted to. Despite feeling lazy right now, I get up and begin my morning exercise routine—push-ups, squats, sit-ups, some shadowboxing, jumping rope. Laziness won’t get me anywhere.

I can’t afford to be lazy. I have goals. Lazy people don’t make goals happen.

The house is quiet; Axel is probably still asleep. I move to the kitchen and make a pot of coffee. Flick the TV on to watch the news. Some boring broadcaster talking about a dog show. Blah blah blah.

The coffee is steaming but good. I sip out of one of our new mugs and kick my feet up on the coffee table.

During our spending spree when Fugitives was first booming, Axel and I did some much-needed upgrades to the house—bigger TV, fancier coffee maker, newer furniture. Freshened up paint in the whole house and got new bedroom furniture for the both of us. Axel even made a nice setup for him to do tattoos; we turned one of the downstairs extra bedrooms that was storage for old junk into his tattoo parlor. No more ink in the living room.

Seems a bit more professional that way.

My phone buzzes on the kitchen table. I walk over there and pick it up. I don’t recognize the number calling me. “Hello?”

“Hello is right. It’s dad.” His words are gruff, as usual.

Butch? It doesn’t look like the prison number he usually calls from. Not that he called us a lot. “Everything okay, dad? What do you need?” The only time I hear from him is when he needs me to send more money to his commissary. Or he wants me to take care of something on the outside. Rough up some people or whatever.

“Peachy keen—don’t need nothing.” He gives a low chuckle. “Got some big news for you.”

Axel starts walking down the stairs. “What’s going on?” he asks, bleary eyed and yawning.

I put the phone on speaker and motion for him to be quiet so we can both listen.

Butch starts talking. “Well, I had my parole hearing a few weeks ago.” His voice sounds slightly tinny through the speakerphone, but still booming with his usual energy. “I didn’t tell anyone—assumed I’d be denied, since I always have in the past. Just another day at the office.”

There’s a bit of a pause. I have a feeling I know where this is going. My chest gets tight as I listen hard to his next words.

“I just found out the parole board has decided to release me. Son, get shit ready for me. Old Butchy is coming home. And I’m going to set things right.”

  Fuck.

Axel and I look at one another and I’m wondering if I have the same look on my face as him.

  Holy shit.

  Butch is coming home.

  And heads will roll.

  Chapter 1

  KERI

I can’t help rolling my eyes as another free drink is placed in front of my best friend, Isabel. Her waterfall of blond hair has earned her at least three of those, and we’ve only been here half an hour.

She grins at the bartender and then turns to me. “You’d be getting these, too, if you didn’t look… well, like that.”

“I’m allowed to look like this tonight,” I insist. I sweep my black hair off my face with my fingers anyway, not like that will help much at this point.

“I know.” Isabel makes a sympathetic face. “But you know what? There are some seriously hot new freshmen this year.”

“I don’t need a freshman.” Honestly, Isabel means well, but sometimes she has some pretty un
helpful ideas. “Becker was immature enough. As he’s clearly just proven.”

Isabel can’t argue with that, so she just says, “God. I still can’t believe he did that.”

“You can’t believe it? Try getting that text message in the middle of paying for your classes, so everyone in school can watch you run out of the building, sobbing.” I nod at the bartender when he gestures to my empty mug, and take a big gulp when he refills it for me.

Vulcan’s Saloon is a smaller bar, and while it’s one of the oldest and coolest establishments in Deer Falls, most of the other students from my college stick to the more contemporary bars closer to campus and don’t usually come here. Which is the entire reason I picked it. I don’t want to see anybody I know except Isabel.

Not because I look like shit—and I do, since I’ve been crying my eyes out. But because I felt a huge, epic rant coming on, and also a huge, epic need to down as many drinks as possible, and I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of anyone I know. Bristowe College is a small school.

“Text?” Isabel frowns. “I thought you said Beckett got Ryan to do it for him.”

“He did,” I say, hearing my voice rising. “Which is bad enough, as we already discussed. But Ryan dumped me for him, via text message.”

  “What?!”

“Yeah,” I mutter. When a couple of people glance at me, I raise my voice. “You heard that correctly. He got his buddy to break up with me and then his buddy did it in a fucking text.”

“Damn,” someone offers from the ancient Pac-Man game across the bar. “That’s cold-blooded.”

“You didn’t tell me that part.” Isabel looks truly shell-shocked. I fish my phone from my purse and pull up the fatal message.

Hey Keri, I don’t think you have my #, but it’s Ryan. Got some bad news. Becker’s got to step back. He’s just dealing with a lot right now. Sorry to be the one to have to tell you. But you’re an awesome chick, I know you’ll be ok.
