The Girl of His Dreams

She frowned. “I saw a couple of pictures of Prince Albert. He’s not as good-looking as I’d thought. I think the prince thing is really overrated.”
They both smiled. He touched her hair. “You look different.”
“Dumb, you mean.”
“I like it. Very sophisticated.”
“Don’t get used to it. As soon as we get home, I’m washing off this makeup and I’m going to start growing my hair back. I’m not the glamour type. I’m just the girl next door.”
“The girl of my dreams.”
She hugged him tight. “Always.”

Later, when they’d made love and were holding each other, he asked, “Would you like to go to Paris for our honeymoon?”
She raised herself onto one elbow and smiled at him. “Is that a proposal?”
She was so beautiful. He touched her face and her neck. “I know our love isn’t the tornado you’ve been waiting for, but it’s strong enough to last both our lifetimes. I come from a long line of men who love with their whole hearts.” He tucked her hair behind her ears. “Yes, it’s a proposal. Kayla, will you marry me?”
Her eyes filled with tears. She wiped them away and groaned. “Do you know how many times I’ve cried since I left here? It’s horrible. I missed you so much. Yes, I’ll marry you. I’ll love you forever. I’ll make you proud.”
His heart filled with contentment. “I already am.”
She bent over and kissed him. Their lips parted. She swept inside his mouth, igniting fires that had so recently been quenched. He put his hands on her waist, then drew her on top of him. She wiggled when she felt his arousal, teasing him with the promise of their joining.
“You’re wrong about something,” she said, breaking the kiss and touching her index finger to his lower lip.
“What’s that?”
“You said our love isn’t like a tornado, but it is. Every time I’m with you, every time I think about you, every time you hold me, I get swept away.”
