A Love Rekindled

“Good because when we get back from our honeymoon, we’ll need to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. It’s hurricane season.” Kim leaned down, hugged Anna then kissed her cheek.
Anna smiled. “Susan caught your bouquet. Do you think she’ll get married next? I was hoping Maggie would.”
“You never know, especially since Dad and Ruth eloped last month.”
Tossing his head toward the crowd that parted to let them leave, Zane captured Kim’s hand. “Ready to run the gauntlet?”
“I’ve been ready for fifteen years.” With her husband by her side, Kim hurried toward the waiting limousine in front of Bienville and toward her future with the man she loved.

Dear Reader,
This is the second story in the A Town Called Hope series. Hope has experienced a hurricane that destroyed a good part of the town. I grew up in an area where hurricanes strike—along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi. I have seen firsthand the damage a hurricane can do and the way a town can pull together to rebuild. I have written this series as a tribute to the people who have dealt with a tragedy and have come out stronger. Even if we can’t personally go to a place that has been hit with a hurricane, tornado or earthquake, we can give money through a charitable organization and we can pray for the people.

Questions for Discussion
Kim has had two people abandon her—her first love, Zane, and her husband. She is scared to trust when she meets Zane again. Her past rules her life. Do you have something that has happened in your past that has done that to you? How can you get past that?
Who is your favorite character? Why?
In this story, the importance of forgiving is explored. Why is it important to forgive others and ourselves? What happens when we live in the past rather than looking to the future? Which do you focus on—past, present or future? Why?
Kim felt that if her ancestral home was repaired, her life would get back on track. She’d made that paramount in her life. She lost focus on the importance of God in her life. Have you done this? How did you resolve the problem?
What is your favorite scene? Why?
Kim rushed into a marriage because her family approved of the man, and she realized she’d made a big mistake within six months of marrying him. She stuck with her marriage, but eventually her husband left her and her one-month-old baby, damaging her family’s business, as well. Her bad choice led to many repercussions that hurt her and her family. Have you ever made the kind of mistake you felt that you paid for more than most? How did you deal with it?
Kim thought if she could control her life, then she would be all right. She didn’t realize there are a lot of things we can’t control in our lives. What are some things that have happened to you lately that have been out of your control? How did you deal with them?
Zane didn’t have a good relationship with his father. His dad was an alcoholic who wasn’t a good father. Zane didn’t want to be a father because of the example he had growing up. How do parents influence their children while they are growing up? If you are in a bad situation, does that mean you will repeat those mistakes, or can you break the cycle? Explain your answer.
Just as Kim felt they were starting to get back on their feet, a fire destroys the work they had done on their house. Have you ever had continual setbacks like that? If so, how did you deal with them? What got you through?
Kim couldn’t forgive her husband or Zane for leaving. She knew God wanted her to forgive and move on, but she had a hard time doing that. Have you ever done something you know you shouldn’t? How did the situation turn out?
This is a series about hope in time of tragedy. What are some ways we can give hope to another in their time of need?
Zane’s father struggled with alcoholism. Have you or a loved one dealt with an addiction? How did you cope? What did you do to help yourself or your loved one?
Kim’s dad had a disease that was causing him a lot of problems. He wasn’t doing as well as he used to, and Kim was taking over more of the responsibilities of running the household and finances. How do you treat your parents now that you’re an adult? Do health issues affect your interaction with your parents?
Both Kim and Zane realized their fathers needed a purpose in life, that their problems had stripped away what purpose they had. Have you ever had that problem with yourself or someone you know? How can you change that? Why is it important that a person feel their life makes a difference?
Kim wondered what her life would have been like if Zane hadn’t left fifteen years before because he didn’t think they came from the same world. Do you ever wonder where you would be today if something had been different in your past? Is it good to wonder “what if” in our lives? Why or why not?
