I mull his words over in my head. I really don’t wanna disappoint him. Not for the second year in a row. I release a huge sigh.
“Okay,” I say, and Jax’s face lights up with pleasure.
“Really? But are you sure? I want you to be sure.”
“Aye, I’m sure. Let’s do it. It’ll be nice to see faces other than you and the young’uns and Talbert and Bean.”
“Not sure if that’s an insult or not… but I’ll take it.” He shoots me that dimpled grin before dropping a kiss on the tip of my nose. “That’s my girl. Wait until I tell Finn and the youg’uns. They’re gonna be thrilled.” He turns to go but looks back in uncertainty. “Wait, can I tell them? You’re one hundred percent sure, right? You’re not gonna change your mind?”
“Aye, I’m sure.” I laugh as he scurries down the steps toward the fields. A few moments later, I hear Finn’s hollerin’ and hootin’, and I reckon Jax ain’t wrong. The young’uns are excited about going.
I grin to myself as I listen to their excitement carrying on the wind. I’m glad I told Jax yes, and my own excitement starts stirring in my gut. He’s right. I gotta get over this irrational fear of something going wrong. I’m only making excuses not to go. The thought of Skytown terrifies me, but I need to face my fears. I cain’t keep hiding out in my farm of solitude for the rest of my life. I need to face my past and put it to rest, so I can look forward to my future and a normal life.
Normal. Whatever that is. I don’t consider myself a New Blood no more. I’m a farmer, a healer, a wife, hell, even a ma to the young’uns. But I ain’t a freak. Not no more. I can call myself normal now. And since a wise little man once told me normal is in the eye of the beholder, then that’s what I choose to see myself as. Some people hate normal. Some, like the Prezedant, strive to be much more. But I like normal. There’s a lot worse things I could be. My kin would be proud.

I wish I could tell you I’ve climbed Mt. Everest or taken a hot air balloon ride around the world, but alas I lead a very quiet life in Nova Scotia, Canada. The only adventures I go on are in books. But what adventures they are!
When I’m not reading or writing, I manage a chocolate shop. That’s right; I work with both books and chocolate. Living the dream.
The rest of my time is spent with my three favourite guys; my hubby, my son, and my crazy fur baby. We are a family of geeks. Fans of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, lovers of books of any genre, and players of video games. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
