“Let me get your necklace. Don’t move.”

“I can’t now that you’ve told me not to.”

  “I know.”

She stuck her tongue out at him. Lucas chuckled as he exited the bathroom and then the bedroom. When he returned, plastic bags rustled before he reentered the bathroom with the necklace draped over his right hand. He made quick work of putting it on her, sneaking in a few nipple pinches as he situated the shields.

  “Close your eyes.”

Emily let her lids slide down.

Lucas swung the bathroom door closed and then guided her in front of it with him standing behind her. “Open.”

Emily blinked in surprise at her nudity. Only the nipple necklace and labia hoops decorated her body.

“You look beautiful, Em. We should show Rich and the others this the next time they show up. What do you think? Do you like that idea?” He curved his hand between her legs from behind and tickled her lower lips.

Emily nodded as she rocked from side to side so his fingers sifted through the chains of the labia hoops.

  “Does it still pinch?”

  “A little but it’s fine.”

“Sorry about that. I didn’t know it was hurting you. It must have been intense for you to feel it while aware.”

“No. It didn’t hurt. It was just pinching me.”

“Oh well, so long as you weren’t in pain.”

“Not at all. I like it.”

He dipped one finger into her channel. “How about this?”

“I like that too.” She arched her ass back, rubbing against his erection as he pumped her pussy.

Emily’s nipples tightened and her channel slicked with liquid desire but she knew something was wrong with this situation. With more effort than it should have taken, she asked in a whisper, “Lucas, what’s going on?”

He smiled and dropped a kiss on her shoulder. “I should think that’s obvious, Em. I’m getting you nice and excited so I can fuck you in front of this mirror. I’ve always wanted to do this.” He added another finger and thrust faster. “I got this house because I loved the mirrors in this bathroom. I imagined us fucking and watching at the same time. But you went and got self-conscious and killed that idea.”

“You never told me that. I might have been hesitant but I would have let you talk me into it.”

“Em, you won’t have sex unless the lights are off. How was I supposed to bring up the mirror thing?” He frowned and his fingers paused. “Wait a minute. Em?” He met her gaze in the mirror. “Are you aware?”

“Do you mean awake? Then yes. Obviously.”

“No, aware. Aware. Are you aware?” He cursed under his breath and stepped back. “I must have missed something again. That might explain why you felt the hoops on the ride home. But I haven’t changed anything since the barbecue.”

  “What are you talking about?”

  “Turn around.”

She faced him, blinked a few times, and then smiled. “I thought you said you wanted me to watch as we fucked. It’ll be hard to do that with my back to the mirror.”

Lucas frown deepened. “Are you aware?”

“No, I’m under. Why would I be aware?”

“You don’t remember what you just said?”

She started to answer, stopped, and then nodded. “Now I do. That was weird.”

  “Explain it.”

“I’m under but I was aware at the same time. It was like watching from outside my body. Freaky.”

“So if I bring you out, you remember?”

“No. I forget it but I know I’ve forgotten something I should remember. That’s why I could feel the hoops even though you told me to ignore them. The feeling kept fading in and out.”

“Shit.” He thought for a moment. “I have to test a theory.”

  “Shoot.”

“You’re wearing jeans and a shirt. Okay?”

  “You’re the boss.”

“Close your eyes.” After she did, he put his hands on her shoulders and turned her so she faced the mirror. “Open your eyes but keep them on me.”

She looked at his reflection. His gaze was intent and concentrating.

  “Sew-sew in. Em?”

“Lucas? I thought I turned around. Why am I facing the mirror again?”

  “What are you wearing?”

“Jeans and a shirt. What kind of mouth-breathing-phone-call question is that?”

“Look at yourself. Look at your reflection and tell me what you’re wearing.”

She looked down at her body. She was wearing jeans and a shirt, except that she wasn’t. She was naked with only the nipple necklace decorating her body. Something gold dangled between her legs. “What?”

  “What do you see?”

“I’m naked? Why…? How am I naked? I’m wearing clothes. What’s wrong with this mirror?” She touched her belly and felt skin where cloth should be. A shiver of fear coursed over her. “Lucas, what’s happening?”

“It has to be the mirror. Shit. I need to read those directions again.”

  “What directions?”

“Do you remember the store we just came from? Do you remember what you did?”

  “I tried on a dress.”

  “What else?”

“Nothing else. I…” She gasped as the memory of toying her pussy and letting Joseph fuck her from behind resurfaced. “I-I didn’t. Why would I…? Lucas?”

He covered her eyes. “Snip-snip out. Keep your eyes closed and turn toward me.” He loosened his hold so she could turn. “Open your eyes.”

  “Well that was fun. Not.”

  “You’re under, right?”

“Yeah, it’s me. Your other wife.”

“Don’t say that. It’s not funny.” He shoved a hand through his hair. “This is a mess. I have to read those damn directions. Stay like this. Don’t look at any of the mirrors.”

Emily huffed in annoyance. “You could at least let me masturbate. You got me all excited and now you’re distracted.”

“I’m sorry, Em. I’ll fix it in a minute. Be right back.” He walked past her out of the bathroom.

With nothing better to do and ordered to stay standing straight, which meant she couldn’t move her arms, Emily stared at the ceiling and wondered if it would look good with butterflies or creeping ivy painted across it. That would give anyone stuck staring at the ceiling something worthwhile to see.

Lucas returned, holding the directions and rubbing the coin around his neck.

Emily said, “Lucas, we should paint a motif on the ceiling.”

“What? No. Let’s talk about that some other time.” He peered at the small print on the fold-out directions while reading to himself. “There it is. Mirrors.” He held the paper closer to his face. “Mirrors reflect the truth. A hypnotee who is ordered not to see reality will have it revealed to him or her when faced with a mirror. The same will happen if the hypnotee views a real-time recording of themselves.” He looked at her. “You were staring at the security monitor in the store. Were you aware then?”

  “Yeah.”

  “Why didn’t you say anything?”

“I was confused and freaked out. I also have to concentrate to talk when I’m aware while under. It’s not easy. This me, the me that’s under, is the dominant personality—in a manner of speaking—when I’m under. The aware personality had to overcome my go-with-it attitude to assert herself and get the words out.”

“You’re the same person, Em. You don’t have multiple personality syndrome.”

“In a manner of speaking I do. There’s the me you live with and then there’s the me you fuck. We aren’t the same woman.” She smiled in a knowing manner. “You don’t want us to be.”

“Yes, I do. I got this stupid coin to get you over your esteem issue.”

“If that were true, you could have ordered me to stop obsessing about my weight and all the other piddly crap getting in the way of our sex life and been done. You could be taking your wife to bed inst
ead of your mistress.”

“You’re not my—” Lucas growled with frustration. “Emily, you’re my wife. Under hypnosis or not, you’re still my wife. There is no you and her. There’s just you.”

“This is me when all I care about is getting laid often, well and hard. She’s the lady on the streets. I’m the freak in the sheets. We aren’t the same woman.”

“That’s not true. Yes, you’re more eager for sex when you’re like this but that’s because of all the programming. If I take it away, you’re you again.”

“And wouldn’t that be boring? Tell the truth, Lucas. You made me like this because this is what you want me to be—ready to fuck at a moment’s notice and eager for any toys or store clerks who might want to join in.”

“You didn’t say no. I thought he was your type.”

“He was and he was wonderful. Thank you. However, you and I both know the real Emily, the one who is always worrying about how her weight has diminished her feminine appeal, would have never touched Joseph or let you put this necklace on her in full view of him or showed off her new pussy jewelry. She wouldn’t have looked at the pussy jewelry and would have gotten upset if you even brought it up.”

  “Em—”

“We are as close to a split personality as we can be without actually being one. I have her memories. She doesn’t have mine. We wouldn’t be having this conversation if she hadn’t woken up while I was in control.”

Lucas snapped, “You’re the same woman.”

“Minus my inhibitions and any sense of responsibility. That coin of yours is alcohol without the hangover and the liver damage.” Her smile softened along with her tone. “Lucas, I’m not mad. Either version of me. Sure the aware version was freaked but she enjoyed Joseph to the utmost. If she hadn’t, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it. If she hadn’t, she would have asserted herself over me and put a stop to it. Remember the failsafe—anything I don’t like will drop me out of the hypnotic state.”

Lucas leaned against the counter with a tired sigh. “I didn’t mean for this to happen. Not like this. It was supposed to be a little fun while winning a bet. How did it get this jumbled and messed up?”

“It’s not messed up.” Emily wanted to hug him but still couldn’t move. “Can we take this conversation out of the bathroom so I can move again?”

“Huh? Sure.” He swung his hand at the door. “Just don’t look at any mirrors.”

“Of course.” Emily exited the bathroom to the bedroom and plopped down on the foot of the bed. “Lucas, I get why you started this and what you’re doing. I even understand why you’re keeping it from me until the end of the bet. I don’t mind.”

“Does she?” He cursed under his breath. “Christ. I’m starting to talk like you now.”

“It might confuse you less if you start thinking in terms of two. You have a wife and a girlfriend. Just go with it.”

He let out a rueful laugh and shook his head. “The old man in the store warned me this coin could complicate things. Be careful what you wish for and all that.”

  “Do you not want me?”

Lucas rushed over and knelt in front of her. He dropped kisses on her knees. “I always want you, Em. That’s why I started this to prove it to you.”

“If you want to really prove it…” She trailed off as she opened her thighs.

His expression at her display was a little wary, as if he expected a trap or something.

  “No?”

“I’m sorry. This is messing me up. I need time to think or something. Maybe I should end this.”

Emily bowed over him and hugged his shoulders. “Lucas, you’re a considerate man with a huge heart, but if you take this from me, I’ll choke the life out of you.”

“Huh?” He lifted his head so he looked up at her.

She sat back and smiled. “I’ll say it as many ways as I have to until you understand. I want this. I love this. It’s fun. The aware me would never indulge the way I do. If at the end of the bet you want to stop, so be it. I won’t argue. Until then, don’t take this away from me.” She grasped his face in her hands. “Do you understand what I’m saying, husband-mine? I’m giving you permission again to fuck me and let me be fucked. The endorphins alone are worth it. I haven’t been this happy in years. I think I might have lost a pound or two as well.”

Lucas chuckled and nodded. “Got it.”

  “Really?”

“Yup. I read you loud and clear.”

“No more doubts about doing the right thing?”

  “None.”

“You’ll read the rest of the directions fully and with comprehension so we don’t run into any more little snafus?”

  “I will read the directions.”

  “Thank you.”

He pushed up and pressed his lips to hers. “Thanks, Em. You are fantastic, amazing and much too good for me.”

  “I try.”

After another kiss, Lucas stood. “Get dressed, without the necklace and hoops. Put the necklace with your jewelry but stash the hoops in your toy box.”

Emily pouted as she did what he said.

“None of that. I’m going to spend time with my lady. I’ll play with the freak tomorrow.”

“You better.” She walked over to him, clad in the jeans and shirt he’d told her she was wearing earlier but hadn’t been. “Now what?”

“Turn.” He guided her so she faced the bed and then covered her eyes. “You don’t remember the mirror incidents. Any of them. We went shopping, you tried on the dress with the shoes and the nipple necklace and then we came home after an uneventful car ride. After watching a little TV, I called you to the bedroom and put my over your eyes. Sew-sew in.” Lucas uncovered her eyes. “Ta-da.”

  Chapter Four

Emily tugged at the laces crisscrossing her ample breasts to pull the V-neck of the tiger-striped romper closer together. It wasn’t working. The rest of it fit perfectly but it needed to be a little more generous in the chest area for her peace of mind.

  “Leave it, Em. It’s fine.”

“I knew I should have tried it on before tonight.” She tried again to tie a bow while holding the strings as tight as she could. Like last time, the laces loosened and her breasts strained for freedom. “I’m going to wear something else.”

“No you aren’t.” Lucas steered her out of the bedroom with his hands on her shoulders. “I’ve been trying to get you into this thing since I got it for you. You won’t wear it out of the house because of the front. You won’t wear it in the house because it’s not in-the-house wear—whatever the hell that means. If you don’t wear it tonight, you never will and I would have wasted money buying it.”

“At least let me put on a shirt under it then.”

“Not happening. It’s not meant to be worn with a shirt and you aren’t depriving me of the view.”

Emily snorted with a roll of her eyes. “I should have known that’s why you got me this outfit.”

“Damn straight. My wife has beautiful tits. I want to see them at every opportunity.” He kissed her cheek. “Besides, shouldn’t you be fussing over the food instead of your clothes? Everyone will be here soon.”

“True enough.” Emily went to the kitchen, continuing to pull on the front of the romper in hopes of stretching the fabric. “Is everything else ready?”

“Ready and waiting. I’ve got DVDs set up in the player for background noise and I pulled out the game.”

“Good. Come help me set out the food.” Emily stacked slider sandwiches on different platters based on what they had in them—ham and cheese on one, BLT on another and roast beef on the last one. “I know Duke will devour at least one of these trays on his own.”

Lucas grabbed two. “Chill. You made plenty. If not, we can order a pizza or something. They aren’t coming here to eat. They’re coming to hang out.” He didn’t wait for her to respond before taking the food into the living room.

She knew Lucas was right but Emily liked to be prepared. She would ra
ther have too much food, which meant people were going home with doggy bags, than not enough. This was about the same amount of food as at the barbecue three weeks ago. She had to assume it would be enough.

Lucas returned for the last sliders tray and the fruit platter. Emily followed him with the vegetable platter balanced on top of the chip bowl in her right hand and a plate of cookies in her left.

“Geez, Em. We can make multiple trips, you know.” Lucas grabbed the vegetable platter, acting as if it might topple.

  “I had it.”

“How did you plan to put it down?”

“I’m sure I have an extra arm around here somewhere.”

Lucas took the rest from her and set it with the other food. “I’m sure if you did you would have brought out more.”

The doorbell rang. Emily said, “Food or door?”

He pointed at his chest. “Food.”

Emily trotted to the entryway. “Coming.”

Behind her, Lucas chuckled softly. She glanced at him to see what was so funny but he’d already disappeared into the kitchen. Whatever. Lucas found amusement in the strangest things at times. It was better not to ask.

She pulled the door open. Richard and Bree stood on the porch with Duke and Claudia behind them. Emily blinked in surprise at the crowd. “Did you carpool?”

Bree said, “Nope. We just have perfect timing. Come here, you.” She engulfed Emily in a tight hug. “It has been forever and a day.”

Emily returned the hug and added swaying. “I know. I know. Between your work and my kids, we never get to see each other.”

“I managed to get the weekend off.” Bree released Emily with an annoyed sound. “You would think I was asking them for a raise with as much bitching as they did.”

  Richard cleared his throat.

Emily laughed. “Sorry. Come on in. Everything is set up in the living room.” She moved out of the way to let them pass her and then closed the door behind them. “Lucas, everyone is here.”

Lucas said, “Good. I can start eating.”

She didn’t bother telling him not to since he probably wouldn’t listen. He was chewing a bite of one the sliders by the time she walked down the short entryway to the living room. She shook her head at him.
