Leigh was discriminate, but she never, ever let a man stay in her life long enough to stake a claim. But it looked like Bobby had been roped and hog-tied and she wanted to laugh. Rag him about it. But she couldn’t. He sounded really happy about it, and she was happy for him. “I’m glad for you,” she said, walking over to lean in and kiss his cheek.

He shooed her away. “Yeah, Josie and I have been a thing for three years now.” He looked away, but not before Leigh saw the flush in his cheeks. “She’s a mean bitch, so I don’t know why I keep her around.”

Leigh squeezed his arm. “Because that’s just the type of woman you need to keep your mean ass in line,” she said fondly. “I’m happy for you, but I’ve got to meet this woman who tamed the Beast of East Tennessee.”

Bobby rolled his eyes, and grunted. “I’ll see if she can come up here tomorrow,” he said, holding the door open for them. They followed him to the front door and outside. He said goodnight and left quickly.

Leigh watched his taillights, until Jase grabbed her wrist and demanded, “Where the hell is that apartment?”

“Around back,” she replied, and he dragged her that way. She tried to pull her wrist from his grasp, but his grip tightened. His hand like a steel band on her wrist, the usually pretty-mannered, subdued cowboy dragged her all the way to the corner of the building without saying another word.

Leigh didn’t know who this man was, but she could feel his determination buzzing around him like a force field. It was exciting and a little dangerous, hot, she thought, as he pulled her around the corner into the darkened alleyway between the fence and the building. Suddenly, he reeled her in and pinned her against the wall with his hard body, his heat surrounded her then he was devouring her mouth.

EVERY BONE IN Leigh’s body melted and she was thankful for his support, because her legs would probably crumple without it. Jase pressed his hips tightly to hers, ground himself into her body, and his impressive erection worked the seam on her jeans at just the right place. With every contact, Leigh’s breath hitched, her hips pressed with his to increase the delicious friction. “Mmm…harder,” she begged, her voice a hoarse whisper, as she thrust her pelvis against him.

A tremor rocked his body, and Jase pulled away. Leigh’s body sagged, but he grabbed her elbows to prop her up. “Oh, I’ll definitely give it to you harder, sweetheart, but not here. Where’s the apartment?”

“Stairway around back,” she croaked, pointing toward the light at the end of the alley. Jase led her to the backside of the building, rushed them toward the rickety wooden stairway and stopped cold to look up at the red-painted steel door at the top of the stairs.

“I’m having flashbacks of the No Tell,” he said with disgust.

Leigh just wanted him to take her up to that apartment and help her scratch the itch that was clawing at her insides. “Inside’s better than the stairs, I promise,” she said, dragging in breaths. When it was obvious he still wasn’t convinced, she added, “It’s really nice, and it even has a shower.” She really, really did not want to drive back to that hotel tonight. What she wanted was Jase Sutter between her thighs. Now.

“When’s the last time you were here?” he asked, studying her intently, as if the answer to that question was more important to him.

“Three years ago. C’mon, I’ll show you. It’s nice.” Her voice was so thick, it sounded almost like she was drunk. She took a step up, but Jase grabbed her arm and pulled her back down.

“I think it has to be at least as nice as the motel, but that’s not what’s bothering me.” His eyes darkened, and he chewed on his words for a moment. “Tell me you haven’t ever had sex up there in that bed with him, and I’ll stay here.”

“With him?” she repeated in confusion. “With who?”

“Bobby Gillis. I heard every damned word he said to you in the studio, so I know you were involved with him. The mic was left on and I think it was because he wanted me to hear. I just want to know if you’re still involved and if you used this apartment.”

Leigh’s blood turned to ice water in her veins and she quickly ran over what she could remember of their conversation in the control booth. Damn, Bobby Gillis to hell. Jase was probably right—he left that mic open on purpose. He had a warped sense of humor and probably thought he was being funny. Well, Leigh didn’t think it was funny at all, and she would have a few choice words for him tomorrow.

Her breath came out as a puff of steam in the cool night air, which suddenly cleared her endorphin-saturated brain. How could she have let herself forget how this man was raised in comparison to her upbringing? He had different moral values, ones that were totally foreign to her. She wasn’t going to lie to him, because that would mean she was ashamed of her choices. She wouldn’t change a damned thing, and she didn’t owe Jase an explanation. But maybe this was her opportunity to make sure he understood this was not going to mean a thing to her tomorrow morning.

She pulled back a little to look up at him. “Yes, I had sex with him up there. Several times, as a matter of fact. Why does it matter?”

“Does he mean anything to you now?” Jase asked, his grip loosening on her arm, before his hand fell away.

“Bobby is a very good friend, nothing more, but that shouldn’t matter to you at all. It’s not your business,” she said flatly. “What we’re doing here isn’t about forever, Jase. It’s just two consenting adults having a little fun. A little stress relief. Tomorrow morning we’ll be back to where we were before.”

“Considering that song and Bobby’s involvement, in all likelihood he’ll be around for a while, so it is my business.” He waved his hand between them. “I don’t want to start something with you if you two are, um…”

“Having sex?” Leigh supplied with a harsh laugh. “That’s what I have, Jase. No strings flings. I don’t get involved and having sex with you doesn’t mean we’re starting something. I don’t let myself get attached to men. Bobby was the same way before his girlfriend. It meant nothing to either of us.” Jase looked totally confused as he stood there staring at her like she’d grown horns. Leigh shook her head and put her hand in the center of his chest. “Maybe it’s better we just go back to the hotel, and get some sleep.”

She took one step toward the alley, but Jase grabbed her arm again. “You want no strings sex, darlin’?” he growled near her ear. “I can do that, but I have a condition.” His voice was hard, filled with what sounded like both determination and disgust. “Let’s go upstairs, and talk about it. And then I’ll fuck you.”

His fingers dug into her arm as he pulled her toward the stairs, but Leigh pulled away and backed up a step. His tone and obvious upset with the situation told her going through with this was a very bad idea. “I’m not having sex with you now, Sutter. I’m not in the mood anymore,” she lied.

Leigh had never been more sexually frustrated in her damned life, but she was not going to sleep with a man who was as far out of her league as the Pope was from a pimp. Jase Sutter was not a one-night-stand kind of man. He was hearts and flowers, the living, breathing version of Cupid’s Cowboy, his messenger persona. He didn’t understand casual sex, and that was the only kind of sex she wanted.

Having sex with Jase, as much as she wanted to, would just cause complications she didn’t need in their professional life. Things were going too well to mess them up. Leigh needed his voice and cooperation more than his body.

They didn’t know yet, but she had decided, regardless of what Jase and Bobby said, she wasn’t going to tell Leo to kiss her ass. They just didn’t understand her relationship with Leo. As aggravating as her father was, he knew this business much better than she did. There was still a lot she could learn from him to help her grow in the industry. Leigh was comfortable in her setup at Hearts Afire. Going out on her own, competing against Leo, was scary, and something she’d only do as a last resort.

Yeah, he was mad at her, and Leo in a temper fit wa
s not pleasant. But above all, Leo was a businessman, and she knew he wouldn’t turn down two potentially platinum-selling songs just because he was angry at her. He’d buy them, and in a few months, their misunderstanding would be forgotten. If Leo bought into Jase Sutter, she’d be back in Leo’s good graces, and Jase would be set for life. She’d worry about convincing Jase that Leo was his best bet when the time came.

“Well, let’s see if we can do something about that then,” Jase drawled, startling her.

His hand slid behind her neck into her hair to jerk her chin up, before his mouth slammed down over hers. His other arm clamped around her waist to hold her firmly against him, as he devoured her mouth, overwhelmed her senses, and short-circuited her brain. Jase kissed her like there was no tomorrow, and Leigh wasn’t sure there would be if he kept kissing her like this.

If this was a prelude to how he was in bed, she might very well not survive the night. In the morning, she’d be left a quivering mass of jelly in the middle of the sheets. The thought dragged a moan from her, and breathing hard, Jase finally pulled back to nip her lower lip. “How’s that mood now, baby?” he asked smugly.

Dazed, Leigh opened her mouth, but before she could reply, he swooped in again to kiss her, deeper, harder this time, his tongue moving in and out of her mouth in time with his hips as he thrust his rigid cock into the top of her thighs. Leigh was so blind to everything but his mouth on hers, she hadn’t noticed that he’d moved them to the bottom of the stairs, until he pulled away again.

Breathing hard, he bent and scooped her into his arms, then bounced her once to settle her weight. “Don’t wiggle or we might both wind up back down here.”

He took one step up, and she grabbed his arm. After a few steps more, she heard a loud crack, the stairway rocked and she threw her arms around his neck, burying her face in the crook of his neck. His heated scent and pounding pulse kicked her need into overdrive.

“Hurry,” she whispered, nipping his ear lobe, kissing his neck.

The rumble of his moan tickled her lips as he hurried up the steps. Stopping on the landing, Jase set her on her feet and held out his hand. “Give me the key.”

Leigh reached into the pocket of her jeans and dropped the brass key in his palm. With some space between them now, a little of her sense returned to her. “This isn’t a good idea, Sutter,” she said, with a shuddering sigh. As much as it went against her body’s demands, Leigh suggested, “We should just got get a pizza and head to the hotel.”

“I’m on board with the pizza, I’m starving. But I’m hungry for something else first,” he growled as he shoved the key into the lock and opened the door. He reached back and grabbed her wrist to pull her inside with him.

“Seriously, Jase. Let’s just forget this happened. I think we got carried away in the excitement over that song.” Her hand trembled as she reached behind her for the doorknob, while he fumbled to find the light switch.

He spun toward her, crowded her against the door and glared down at her. “I’m excited alright, but I assure you it has absolutely nothing to do with that song.” Leigh watched his heart pounding at his throat, as he growled, “I’m going to fuck you and fuck you hard—just like you want it.” The dirty words coming out of Jase’s mouth shocked her, but they turned her on more. “But my conditions are—when I finish fucking you hard, I’m going to make love to you, and you’re going to let me. I don’t think you’ve ever let a man do that before. Tomorrow you’re going to tell me which you liked better.”

Leigh swallowed and tried to find enough moisture in the upper part of her body to wet her dry mouth. “I don’t do tomorrows, Jase. Tomorrow we have songs to finish,” she pushed past her raw vocal chords.

Panic gathered in her chest constricting it to the point she could barely draw a breath. It got worse when Jase held her eyes as his hand sneaked down between them to cup her mound through her jeans. He worked the heel of his hand against her clit, and Leigh whimpered, as her body melted against the door. Leaning in close to her ear, he whispered, “Those are my terms, Leigh. Say you agree, or I’m not going to make you come. I’m going to get you to take me back to the hotel.” His right hand skimmed up the curve of her waist to her breast, and his thumb raked over her nipple sending fire shooting through her. “Say it, Leigh,” he coaxed, kissing her forehead, her temple, her cheek.

Even as her mind screamed No!, Leigh moaned, “Yes…yes!”

Jase eased away from her to work the buttons of her shirt down to the waistband of her jeans and yanked the sides apart. His hot eyes scorched her as he dropped the material to slide his hands underneath to cup her breasts. Holding her eyes, his thumbs worked lazy circles around her nipples through her bra, bringing them to hard painful points.

“Lick me,” she begged, arching her back.

“Nah, that’s part of the second round. This is hard and fast, remember?” he replied harshly, stepping away. He unfastened his jeans and jerked the zipper to the bottom of the track, then toed off his boots, hooked his thumbs into the waistband of his jeans and shoved them over his hips. In one fluid movement he pulled his shirt over his head then stood there in only his underwear. “I thought you were the experienced one here, darlin’. You want to be fucked hard and fast. Don’t you know you have to get undressed first?” He stroked his cock, as his molten eyes raked her body, leaving a trail of fire to her toes. “I want to watch, so make it good.”

Leigh stiffened her legs, unfastened her jeans and pushed them down her legs, before removing her shirt. Every nerve ending in her body aware of his eyes as they followed her movements. She reached behind her to unfasten her bra and his breath hitched. Leigh bit her lip and held his eyes as she slowly unfastened each hook. Lowering her arms, she let the straps slither down her arms, dangled the bra at the tips of her fingers then let it drop to the floor. His eyes locked on her breasts, his body tensed and his breathing became ragged, before they skated down to her mound. “Take those panties off and throw them to me,” he ordered and she shivered.

Bending, Leigh slid her panties off and stepped out of them. Jase held out his hand and she dropped the scrap of pink lace in his palm. Eyes fixed on her mound, he fingered the crotch between his fingers. “You’re already wet for me. That’ll make the fast part easier. The hard is already a given.” There was nothing quick in his movements, as he lifted the panties to his nose, closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. “You smell like fucking heaven,” he growled, opening his eyes to pin her with an intense stare. “I can’t wait to feel that slick pussy of yours around my cock.”

Leigh whimpered, “Oh, God.” Reaching behind her, she grabbed the door for support as her knees turned to jelly. “Fuck me now, Jase,” she pleaded.

He crowded her against the door, boxed her in by bracing his arm against the door, then leaned in so his face was only inches from hers. His excited breaths fanned her face, as he asked, “You like me talking dirty to you, Leigh? Would you object if I told you I want to fuck your pretty ass first?” He grabbed her hand and pulled it down to his engorged cock and held it there. “Can you imagine taking all of me up inside of you?”

A mental picture flashed through her mind, Leigh’s cheek muscles flexed, and she whimpered, closing her eyes as a strong tremor rocked her. Other than a little teasing, Leigh had never much been into anal sex, had never really gone there before. But if more of his kissing was involved first, who knew what she would agree to? Jase Sutter was a kissing expert, a master, his kisses were an addictive drug. Leigh wanted more of it. More even than she wanted to be fucked, which was pretty badly.

“Kiss me,” she whispered, tilting her chin up, obviously surprising him, because he stepped back to look at her. He shook his head and waggled a finger.

“No ma’am. Kissing is part of round two too. Fucking hard does not include kissing. It involves getting your pretty ass spread for me, so I can shove my cock inside of you,” Jase said, grabbing her wrist to drag her across the room toward the bed. Instead of sto
pping there though, he led her to an upholstered, low-backed lounge chair, which he pulled away from the wall, and spun it to face her.

“Sit here and keep your engine running,” he said pushing her down into the seat. “I’ll be right back.”

“Where are you going?” she asked hoarsely.

At the door of the bathroom, he glanced back at her and a muscle worked at his jaw. “Since this is Bobby’s love nest, I’m sure he has some lube and condoms in the bathroom.”

The light turned on, and Leigh heard him rifling through the vanity drawers. With a heavy sigh, she bounced her head off the back of the chair and closed her eyes. Leigh wasn’t sure she liked this harder version of Jase Sutter. He was too much like the men she was used to having meaningless sex with, and that was so far from his personality it seemed farfetched, surreal. He had turned himself into Bobby Gillis, only younger and better-looking. The soft-hearted cowboy had disappeared at the door of this apartment, and it shocked her to realize she almost wished he’d come back.

But this is what you asked him for, and he’s giving it to you.

A minute later, Jase walked out of the bathroom with a box and tube. Her eyes drank up his delicious, tightly-muscled body as he walked over to toss the box on the bed, scattering gold foil packets over the comforter.

“Get up and lean over the chair,” he said coldly, unscrewing the cap from the tube, without looking at her. He squeezed out a large amount of gel into his palm, then recapped it and tossed it over on the bed too.

This was not right, something was way off. Leigh was not having fun, or enjoying this at all. Her eyes floated down to the front of his tight, white underwear and she noticed that, despite his words and bravado, Jase wasn’t liking it as much as he had been earlier either. She met his gaze, and licked her lips. “I think I’ve changed my mind,” Leigh said, her voice less croaky than it had been a minute ago. “I think I want your version first.”
