Mercy: A Bad Boy Biker Romance (New Devils MC Book 3)

I slowly turned toward him and looked up into his eyes. That handsome face… So strong but in his eyes, someone that was caring. Being with him gave me a comfort I’d never even dreamed of before.
“To be out here in Ivory,” I said. “To live in a small town with nobody around. Nothing fancy. Nothing entertaining. No glitz and glamour.”
“I was never much for the glamorous life.”
“Ivory’s about as un-glamorous as you can get.”
“I’ve had all that before. I’ve had the money. I’ve had the champagne and caviar. I’ve had the women. I was on top of the world.”
“And now?”
He looked into my eyes, a soft smile on his face.
“Being on top of the world doesn’t mean anything when you’re alone,” he said. “With you, I’m not on top of the world. I’m high above it, looking down on it like Ivory down there below us.”
There was nothing for him to hide any longer. I couldn’t remember a time when I was so comfortable around someone. I knew I could be honest with Aden and I wouldn’t have to worry about being embarrassed or ashamed or frightened about how he might react.
“When that happened,” I said. “When that guy you fought that night died… You lost your way…”
“I did…”
“I… I want to believe that you didn’t lose your way. You just had to find yourself again. You were meant to come here to Ivory. You were meant to find me. Everything happens for a reason…”
He leaned forward and kissed me softly. I wet his lips with my tongue before he gently pulled them away.
“Everything happens for a reason,” he said. “Are you sure you wanna do this? Being with a club member is never easy. I’m committed to the Devils. Those guys have my back. I have to be there for them.”
“I saw you get beat half-to-death. That was the hardest thing I’d ever witnessed… the possibility that I might never be able to be with you again… If I can make it through that, there’s nothing I can’t get through. There’s nothing we can’t get through…”
Aden nodded to me in understanding. He already knew that my mind was made up but he was still giving me another chance to walk away.
“I was giving some thought about what you said to me earlier,” I said. “About leaving Finn’s and maybe working at Hades.”
“And…?”
His eyes widened. It was the first time I’d ever seen him so hopeful.
“All right,” I said. “I’ll do it. I’ll work at the clubhouse.”
“You know you won’t make as much money working at Hades. Finn’s is the busiest bar in Ivory.”
“If I cared about the money, I wouldn’t be here with you now.”
“Yeah…”
“Besides, I made a pretty substantial bet with Yates before your fight with Samson.”
“Wait… What?”
“You weren’t paying much attention but that’s all right. Let’s just say that it’s a nice little bonus for you coming out on top.”
I grinned at him. He shook his head, chuckling softly at the same time.
“I’ll be working at Hades,” I said. “You’ll still be taking care of business at Ivory Blues.”
“That’s right. There are still people there who need me, too.”
“Mia talked to me about maybe going to school. One of the other old ladies from the club is doing the same thing.”
“That wouldn’t be a bad option. I’ll be here to support you, whatever you do.”
“I know…”
I leaned forward and kissed him again. The feeling of his lips against mine never failed to make me sigh. I turned around and sank into his chest. I enjoyed the sunrise, Aden’s arms around me.
His body shifted as he sighed a deep breath.
“I miss him,” he said.
I slowly turned around and looked up at him.
“I wish he could see where I’m at now. I wish he could see what I’ve accomplished.”
“I’m sure that he’s proud of you, wherever he is,” I said. “I owe just as much to Lou as you do.”
Aden shifted his gaze toward me and smiled softly.
“Lou did what he needed to do for me,” Aden said.
“You may not have him any longer but you have me. You’ll always have me.”
“I know.”
I turned back around and sank into his embrace. The back of my head pressed against his chest, I looked out into the distance and let my thoughts be free.
“Aden.”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
He kissed me on the top of my head. I sighed contentedly and stared out toward the horizon.
My life in Ivory was nothing special. I was just an ordinary woman living an ordinary life heading toward an inevitable and unspectacular end.
Aden made me realize that my life was something more than I thought it was. I was searching for something this whole time. Aden helped me find what I was looking for in him. My life was empty but with Aden by my side, I was complete.
Aden himself came to Ivory looking for an escape. An amazing man who just wanted to disappear. He was looking for something. I knew I was the one who had to help him find it.
He’d made peace with the past that was chasing him. Our lives would no longer be meaningless. Whatever happened, we could look toward the future.
Together.
