Mia smiles and nods before her eyes start to close and exhaustion finally allows her to sleep.

A cool breeze ripples through the bedroom, and Mia shivers. Reaching out, she finds nothing but cold sheets where Damon was. Sitting up, she looks around the room and finds him nowhere.

The only thing she sees are the two French doors thrown open to the beach outside. Standing up, she wraps the silk sheet around her naked body and walks out onto the patio. The moon is a sliver in the sky and the sun is starting to rise above the waves in the distance.

It is breathtaking, but Mia ignores it as she looks around for Damon. And then she spots him and her breath catches in her throat. He is walking up from the water in jogging shorts and a white t-shirt. His hair is tussled, and he looks amazing.

Coming up near the patio, he smiles up at her. His eyes are shining with love, and he holds out his hand to her. She gives it to him, and he guides her into his chest. He smells like Damon and the ocean...he smells like home.

Turning her around so her back is against his chest, he faces the sunrise and wraps his arms around her waist. Resting his head on her shoulder, he breaks the magical silence between them. “Isn’t it beautiful?”

She nods, unable to speak as she watches the vibrant colors of the sunrise. “But not as beautiful as you,” he purrs against her ear.

He grasps her hands and carefully places something into them before he steps away. Mia glances down and finds herself holding a large seashell. She turns, her eyes full of questions, and finds him kneeling in the sand behind her.

Her eyes fill with tears as he says, “Mia, I thought of a million different ways to ask you this, but it was never the right time. That night when you couldn’t get through to me on the phone, I wasn’t at a bar; I was out buying your engagement ring.”

He gestures towards the shell, and Mia, with shaking hands, opens the closed shell to find a large, diamond ring sparkling in the pre-dawn light. She gasps and her eyes search his. “I was waiting for the perfect time to do this, but there will never be a more perfect time than tonight.”

Grasping her hand, he says, “Mia. You are my heart, my soul, my everything. I want to see the world with you and make love to you on the beach under the stars. I want you to bear my children and to grow old with me. I want to fight for you...for us...for our future. Mia,” his voice cracks with emotion, “will you marry me?”

With tears streaming down her face, Mia says, “Yes, I will...I will.”

She collapses to the sand with him as he slips the ring on her wedding finger. Then she is in his arms for a soul-searing kiss that is filled with so much hope.

When they finally part, the turn in the sand until Mia is nestled between Damon’s legs. They watch the sunrise and Mia can’t help but hope for the future. For one that is as shiny and promising as the new day that is dawning before them. Their future is there before them and all she needs to do is fight for it...
