Chapter One
“I can’t believe it.”
“Can’t believe that you’re going to Paris with me? Don’t worry,” Jake said.
“I can’t believe—Jake, this is the second time you’ve kidnapped me!”
The flight attendant arrived, holding out drinks. She raised her eyebrows at my comment.
Jake handed me a glass of pink champagne.
“Could we have some privacy, please?” He smiled his dazzling smile at the flight attendant and she turned away, lowering her eyes at me with a knowing look.
“I was going to leave you with that going-away present,” he said.
“The earrings?” I sipped at my champagne.
“But I couldn’t very well do that.”
“It’s hard to wear earrings in unpierced ears,” I admitted.
“I can’t believe I messed that present up so bad.”
“Not your fault,” I said. I chuckled lightly. “I’m such a tomboy. I bet I’m the only woman in New York City without pierced ears.”
“I still messed up.”
I drew my finger along his arm.
“Is that why you’re taking me to Paris? To make up for buying me the wrong kind of diamond jewelry?”
“Yes.”
I burst into laughter.
“Wow. I didn’t know the rich and famous had such terrible problems to deal with.” I made a show of wiping my eyes of tears.
“Ha,” he said drily.
“I can’t wait until you buy me a pool as an apology. Then I’ll have to tell you I can’t swim.”
“You can’t swim?”
“I’m from Iowa. I can swim through a pool filled with corn, maybe.”
“Then I’ll fill the pool with corn,” Jake said.
“You would.”
“I absolutely would. Anything to make you happy. You seriously can’t swim?”
I grinned.
“You can give me swimming lessons when we get back from Paris.”
“I will. Finish your champagne.”
“We just took off!” I protested, leaning back in my leather chair.
“And you’re scared of heights. So finish your champagne.”
I obeyed. This was better than first class. The chairs were plush and comfortable. And I was going to Paris!
“What next?” I asked Jake. The champagne glass clinked lightly on the marble slate table, indented to fit the stemware perfectly.
“Next? Next, you kiss me.”
I leaned over to put a chaste kiss on his cheek. But Jake’s arms moved around me, unbuckling my seatbelt in one swift move. He lifted me up and into his seat. I squealed as he set me down sitting sideways on his lap.
“Kiss me again.”
“Jake! I’m supposed to be wearing a seatbelt right now.”
“I’ve got you tight, don’t worry.”
“I’m worried.”
“Kiss me.”
I should have known that he wouldn’t let me go with just a kiss. As he pressed his lips to mine, his hand snaked down between my thighs, slipping up under the silken hem of my dress.
“Jake!”
“Did you obey me?” he asked, reaching up to where I was already beginning to turn wet with desire. “Oh, yes, you did. Good girl.”
That’s right. He’d written it in a note he’d left for me: No underwear. I only hoped that he’d packed enough for our trip, because the only thing I had on was my blue chiffon dress. As Jake eased his fingers deeper into me, I wriggled in his arms.
“Jake, we’re on a plane!”
“Don’t you want to join the mile-high club?”
“I don’t think we’re at a mile yet,” I said. “We’re still climbing.”
“Good. Then we’ll have plenty of time for foreplay.”
I gasped as Jake pulled me in for another kiss. One hand cupped the back of my head, deepening the kiss as the plane roared through the sky. His other hand was still pressed firmly against my slick entrance, moving only slightly. Every brush of his fingers sent deep thrills through my nerves.
I could feel myself growing wet.
“Jake…” I whispered. “My dress.”
“What about it?”
“I don’t want it to get…uh…”
“Oh, of course.”
“I mean, it’s the only thing I have to wear.”
“Until we get to Paris. But I understand your concern.”
“Good,” I said.
“So we’d better take it off.”
Jake lifted me up and pulled the hem of the dress up to my waist. I shrieked and turned toward the back of the plane.
“Jake, the flight attendant is back there!” I cried. “What if she comes back and sees me half-naked and… and… completely unbuckled?”
“Ooh, I would definitely describe you as ‘completely unbuckled,’” Jake said. “I like that.”
“I don’t—ahhh.”
“What was that?” Jake asked teasingly, grazing his fingers across my tender skin. My hips lifted involuntarily, as though my body was inviting him in.
“Nothing,” I said, darting an anxious glance to the back of the plane. “She won’t come back, will she?”
“Of course not,” Jake said. He thrust his fingers into me suddenly and I arched against his palm.
“Ohhhh.”
When he pulled his fingers out, my body ached.
“Please,” I moaned softly. “Please.”
“That’s a good girl,” Jake said again, this time with a bright look in his eyes. I let my hand drift down over his pants. He was huge, bulging out and rock hard under the fabric. When I pressed my fingertips to his shaft, it throbbed.
“I want you,” I whispered. “Please.”
Jake didn’t say anything, but he gripped my hips with his hands. He shifted me over and I opened my legs, straddling him. My fingers fumbled at his belt buckle.
“So beautiful,” Jake said, his hands weaving through my hair. He bunched his fist lightly and tugged. A light thrill ran through my nerves.
“There,” I said. The buckle was undone. I pulled the zipper down.
Jake eased back in his seat. All of a sudden, the seat began to move. I let out half of a high-pitched shriek before snapping my mouth shut.
“It’s an automatic recliner,” Jake said, pointing to the switch he’d been using to control it.
“I thought the plane was breaking,” I said, my heart still adjusting to reality.
“I know.” Jake pressed the switch, and the seat began to rise. Then he leaned it further back.
“Well, don’t use it now, we’re not even at cruising altitude. You’re not allowed!”
“I’m not allowed to lean back in my chair? Says the woman who’s completely out of her seat?”
“That’s it,” I said. “I’m going—“
“Oh no you’re not,” Jake said mischievously. He grabbed my hip as I was trying to escape, and he arched up, thrusting hard into me.
I gasped. White-hot star bursts of sensation exploded through my core outward. My body lunged forward instinctively, and I placed my hands on his chest to brace myself.
“You think that’s something? There’s a massage setting to this chair.”
“Ohh—“
Jake began to rock upward. I let him take me into his rhythm, slowly at first, then faster as we moved together. My dress was bunched up under my breasts. Jake had one hand cupping my breast, the other one guiding my ass as I bounced up and down.
“Don’t let the pilot hear us,” Jake whispered slyly, his breath coming in short bursts.
“You don’t think he can feel the plane rocking?”
“Ohh!”
He rolled his hips up and I shuddered, clenching around him. God, he felt amazing. His every thrust worked his swollen cock deeper and deeper into me. I let myself slide up and down, clenching against his rock hard shaft with my body.
More. I needed more.
“Please…” I said, letting my body rock down harder and harder as he moved faster and faster.
He rocked back in his seat, thrusting upward. Then I heard it.
Seriously? There was a massage setting?
Jake’s body began to thrum with a vibration that made me shudder above him. His taut muscles pressed firm against mine, transferring the waves through his body to my own. I could feel the ache inside me open up, raw and needy.
“God, yes.”
Faster and faster he thrust into me. His massive cock stretched me to the limit. Bucking hard atop him, I bit back an involuntary cry. I couldn’t take it. I couldn’t take any more of it. The plane’s roar and the vibration of the seat and Jake’s hands gripping me—
“YES!”
It was as though I was flying, really flying, and as the plane dipped I felt my whole body lift and then come down hard on Jake’s thick cock. The orgasm exploded through me.
“Ohh! Ohhh! OHHH!”
“Oh… fuck… yes!”
Jake’s voice was hoarse, low and hoarse with pleasure. His hands gripped me tight as he jerked up with one last thrust, pumping his hips hard into my body before letting his hands fall to his side.
He eased me back into my plane seat. Every muscle of mine was weak. As I saw how exposed he was, my self-consciousness kicked back in. My hands fluttered at my dress, pushing the hem down. Jake pulled the seatbelt over my lap and tightened it. Then he kissed me softly on the lips.
As he pulled away, I reached out and touched his exposed cock, the pink soft skin over the thickness of him. Jake smiled and tucked it back into his pants. He settled into his seat next to mine and leaned over.
“You’re mine, Lacey,” he said, nuzzling the soft spot on my neck.
I was his. I only wondered if he was truly mine.
Chapter Two
At the hotel, I could see the Eiffel tower from my window. Jake was getting ready for the negotiations initial meeting, picking out one dark suit from the three almost-identical suits he had brought on the trip.
My phone rang.
“It’s my mom,” I called to Jake. “Should I pick up?”
“Why not?”
“Isn’t it, you know, super expensive to have calls overseas? Like, roaming?”
I knew as soon as I asked the question that Jake would have no idea. It wasn’t his fault, he just had no concept of spending money. It had never been an issue for him. So of course he wasn’t concerned.
“No problem,” Jake said. “Talk to her. Here, I’ll give you some privacy.”
He closed the bathroom door. I stared down at the phone and then picked up.
“Hi,” I said.
“What’s wrong?”
I laughed and plopped myself back down on the bed.
“How do you know something’s wrong, mom?”
“I know my baby,” she said. “It’s in your voice. A little chip on the side of it. What’s wrong?”
"Mom, I…” I stared up at the ceiling. The ceiling was plaster, and it had a painting all over it. The edges of the ceiling were bordered with gilded wood.
“I don't quite know what I'm doing,” I said. That about summed it up.
"Oh, darling. Nobody knows what they're doing.”
“Is that the secret of adulthood?” I asked.
“It's not really a secret, is it?”
I sighed.
“Mom, what do I do?”
“What are you doing?”
“Painting.”
“That’s nice.”
“And not selling very many paintings.”
“Who cares about that? That Jake guy?” I could sense the hook in her question. She could always tease out the essence of a person with her questions.
“No,” I said. “I care. He doesn’t care at all, that’s the problem.”
“I want to meet him,” my mom said.
“Mom, don’t sound so suspicious.”
“I am suspicious. This is the first man you’ve seen that you sound excited about. And from what you’ve told me of him, he’s very impressive.”
“And that makes you suspicious?”
There was a pause. I thought it was the connection, but then I heard my mom take a breath.
“I’m always suspicious when things seem too good to be true,” she said.
“He’s not. I mean, he’s wonderful. And he…uh, I don’t know how to say this,” I said. I tapped my fingernails against the windowsill. “He took me to Paris.”
“He’s taking you to Paris?”
“Took me. We’re here. I can see the Eiffel Tower now.” I looked out at it. It was smaller than a few of the other buildings in the skyline, which seemed strange to me.
“You’re in Paris?”
“Yep.”
“That’s awfully romantic. Is he practical at all? Does he do the dishes?”
Of course. My mom would ask about washing dishes.
Jake had servants to do everything for him. But I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to tell her about how rich he was. My parents had always been wary of businessmen in suits. My dad said they were afraid to do any hard work.
“I can testify that I have seen him wash a mug,” I said, telling the full extent of the truth.
“Oh, you! You’re in love, that’s alright.”
“Am I?” I turned away from the Eiffel Tower, looking toward the closed door. Jake had taken me here to allay my fears about his business trip being all business. I should have been happy to see that he would do anything to get rid of my jealous feelings. Instead, though, I had a strange feeling of dread. Like I was going to find Jake kissing another woman.
French-kissing another woman.
I shook the image out of my head. No way. Jake was taking me here because, let’s face it, what woman wouldn’t want a man to sweep her away to Paris?
It was wonderful. I should be thrilled. And I had the perverse pleasure of being able to tease Jake about abducting me twice.
“Lacey, I’m ready to leave!” Jake’s voice came through the door.
“Mom, I have to go.”
“I heard that. Can’t I even talk on the phone with him for a second?”
“He’s going to be late for a business meeting.”
“Is that more important than me?”
“Sorry, mom!” I said, feeling a little uneasy. “I love you, okay? I’ll call you later!”
“Love you too, sweetheart,” my mom said.
I hung up the phone and opened the door. Jake immediately walked straight into me and threw me down onto the bed, catching me on the upward bounce. He pinned my wrists down to the mattress. The back of my head sunk into the plushy covers.
“You torture me.”
“Shoo! Jake, you’re already late for your meeting with the lawyers.”
“And I’ll be later if you keep slowing me down,” Jake said as I batted his hands away from my top. “Just let me kiss them once—”
“You’re late!”
“It’s alright, we’re in Europe. Everyone is always late. Especially the French government.”
He reached into his pocket and handed me an envelope. I opened it up. There was a black a
nd gold credit card as well as a whole wad of crisp euros.
“Something so you can buy clothes for the trip. There’s a credit card,” Jake pointed out. “Fifty thousand dollar limit, okay? Don‘t go crazy.”
I gaped at him. I don’t know what his definition of crazy was, but fifty grand was well beyond my personal line.
“Call me if you need anything.”
“My phone—”
“I’ll get someone to fix it so it’s Europe-okay,” Jake said, anticipating my question. “For now, don’t worry about roaming.”
“Well, alright then.”
“Have fun. Eat something delicious. I’ll be home by nine.”
I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry.
“Nine at night?”
Jake’s shoulders slumped.
“I know. Business. It’s hard on these international things. I have to squeeze in as much as I can now. Or I’ll have to be back in two weeks.”
Why did I feel so disappointed? I bit my lip and tried to play it off as nothing.
“But no supermodels today?” I joked.
“Lawyers today. Supermodels tomorrow.”
I smiled, although my heart was clenching. I wanted to be supportive of Jake and everything he did. I wanted to be the cool, awesome girlfriend, not the super jealous type. I just couldn’t help shake the feeling that something was off.
Chapter Three
I watched the birds scrabbling for food in the shadow of the Eiffel tower. They moved about in clusters of four or five, breaking apart and reforming like a weird, feathery lava lamp. Some were white, some gray, some mottled with dark spots. A little boy came over and toddled around with arms outstretched. The pigeons scuttled around the boy, easily avoiding his grasp.
The mother of the boy came over and pulled him away by the hand.
I remembered chasing crows. Right then, I could almost feel the frost on the soil in the winter. I could hear the cawing in the dusky mornings when the sun stirred the air and everything sparkled with dew.
Strange, how being in a foreign place reminded me so much of home.
My memories were interrupted by someone jostling my elbow.
It was a man in front of me. He thrust a handful of Eiffel Tower keychains into my face, jangling them.
“Souvenir? Souvenir? Two euro.”
