Until the Next Time (Give Me Shelter Book 1)

She was gorgeous, with dark hair that tumbled in waves around her shoulders, and darker eyes that had seen too much. Gunny bought her a drink while a lounge singer performed, accompanied by karaoke tracks of hit songs that were thirty years out of date. After two more drinks, she’d moved to his side of the long bar and perched on a tall bar stool next to him.
“I feel bad for the bartender having to run from end to end of this bar.” Then she sighed and said, “I’m Lindsay.”
He’d nodded his head once. “Ben.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Ben.”
“Same.”
They’d sat in awkward silence, side by side, through four more horrible renditions of terrible songs before Lindsay had turned to him.
“Do you want to get out of here?”
“It depends.” He swallowed the last of his whiskey. It was cheap stuff that would his stomach roil later, but it dulled the roaring of his thoughts. “How drunk are you? Because I’m pretty fucked up.”
Lindsay shook her glass. “Cranberry juice.”
“No vodka in that?”
She shook her head.
“Well then, let’s go.”
They’d gone back to his room because it was closer. After he shut the door behind them, she’d stood by the television that was bolted to the dresser.
“I don’t normally do things like this,” she’d said, and he’d actually believed her, and told her so.
“Do you still want to?” he’d asked.
“I need to.”
“Well, then. Okay.”
Then Gunny had stepped into her space and lowered his head to kiss her, only for Lindsay to put her hand up to cover his mouth.
“No kissing on the mouth.”
“Like that movie.”
She nodded and gave him a shy smile. “Yes, like that movie, but it’s true.”
“Yes, yes, it is.” So he pressed his lips to her forehead, then to her neck, then slowly began to undress her. He’d gotten her down to her panties and bra—matching but practical—when she pulled his t-shirt over his head and tossed it on the bed. He let her undo his jeans and begin to work them down until she got to his boots.
“Oh.”
Gunny chuckled and rid himself quickly of his footwear, then he let her get on with undressing him so they soon stood in the little shabby room, in their underwear, in the middle of the afternoon.
“I usually don’t do things like this,” she repeated. “But I want to today.”
Gunny looked at her again, then he asked, “You sure?”
She nodded.
“I need to hear you say it.”
She removed her bra and slipped off her panties. “I’m absolutely sure.”
Then he swept her into his arms and threw her on the bed.

Three nights. She’d spent three nights and two days holed up in a hotel room with a virtual stranger, though he didn’t seem like much of a stranger anymore. Lindsay Beaujardin stared at the ceiling while Ben slumbered beside her, debating whether to be on her way or spend another day with this man.
When she’d told him that she didn’t usually do things like this, she’d not been lying. In her past life, she’d been a slow burn sort of girlfriend, enough to where she’d had a few men lose interest before she was ready to take the next step.
She’d never regretted moving slow.
Now, she hadn’t had any second thoughts about not leaving this motel room for close to seventy-two hours. On the contrary, she dreaded going back into the real world, so the fact that Ben had pulled on his jeans twice a day to get them food was a blessing and made her like him even more.
Had she been missing out, being so rigid? She really didn’t think so, but Ben was making her reconsider all sorts of things.
He snuffled and rolled in his sleep, throwing his arm over her. She let him pull her closer. Lindsay could feel his breath on the side of her neck, and she laid her hand on his arm, embracing him, weighing her options.
His breathing changed a tiny bit and she knew he was waking up, or rather, wasn’t fully asleep anymore. He gently cupped her mound, almost protectively, before slipping two fingers between her folds, causing her breath to catch.
“Is this okay?” he murmured.
“Yes,” she whispered even as she raised one thigh to allow him better access. She was sore, but not terribly so, because they actually spent quite a bit of time napping and talking and eating and not fucking. “It’s definitely okay.”
“Good.” He kissed her shoulder and his fingers probed deeper. Ben’s thumb massaged her nub oh so gently and she involuntarily let out a tiny moan. He chuckled but kept his eyes closed. “You like that, like the way it makes you feel.”
He wasn’t lying.
His mouth found a peaked nipple as he continued his ministrations. She arched her back in the pleasure, and threaded her fingers through longer length of hair on his crown. Lindsay closed her eyes to better concentrate on what he was doing to her, what he was making her feel.
Suddenly he slipped his fingers out and rolled her to her side. She felt his erection thump against her belly as he pulled her close, hooking her leg over his hip. He fumbled around on the night stand, looking for a condom, and she let him so she could enjoy the feeling of him holding her tight against his body, the smell of his skin surrounding her as she buried her face in the crook of his neck. She heard the crinkle of a wrapper tearing, and even as he held her to him, he rolled the condom over his length. He pressed a kiss to her forehead as he slowly slid inside her. They rocked and moved against each other, slowly, silently, until Ben pulled her hips to him, grinding into her, the sounds of their gasps and lovemaking filling the room. Lindsay’s climax rolled over her just as she felt Ben’s cock twitch and pulse deep inside her, their bodies totally coming one for a brief moment in time, and they rode wave after wave of pleasure until they were both sweaty and exhausted. They lay motionless against each other until finally he rolled away, kissing her on the neck as he stripped off the condom and dropped it into the trash with the others before embracing her again.
A few hours later, he still slept, and Lindsay slipped out of bed. She dressed in the clothes she wore three days prior, and she pressed a kiss to Ben’s lips before walking out the door.
