Hearts in Alaska

An hour later, the two of them laid side by side, snuggled into Sterling's bed. Carter hadn't been able to sleep yet, still too excited about the day they'd had, and the prospect of his life with Sterling. As he looked up at the skylight, something green seemed to float overhead. He frowned, curious, and then sat up. As he realized what it was, he threw off the blankets, and yanked on his pants.

  "What is it?" Sterling groaned.

"The northern lights," Carter answered, sounding like a kid on his first trip to Disneyland. He practically leaped down the steps, and then tugged a jacket over his bare chest. Then he threw open the door and ran outside. Up in the sky was a stream of green and yellow streaks, slowly moving their way across the sky. Carter stared up at them, his mouth hanging open in a goofy grin.

Before long, Sterling had joined him. He stepped over and slipped his hand into Carter's. "We don't always get them this time of year, or this far south," he pointed out.

"Then it must be a special occasion," Carter said, and looked down at him. "Did I ever tell you that it felt like something was guiding me the day I broke my leg?" When Sterling shook his head, he said, "Well it did. It was like I was meant to find you."

Sterling smiled shyly and looked back up at the sky. "Maybe you were."

Damien is a new and mysterious stagehand, always seen and never heard, who likes to lurk around the empty theater after dark.

Jonathan Sheppard, the star of this season’s fall production, thinks Damien is an absolute weirdo, but for some reason he can’t get the strange boy (or his flat ironed bangs) out of his mind.
