Eves (Carson Brothers Book 2) Page 18

by S R Dyble

"This isn't funny Kit," I scolded him. "My baby doesn't need a broken Daddy because he's been a twat."

Kit stopped to look at me. "There's something really sexy about you calling me your baby's daddy."

I stood firm and challenged him to be serious.

"Fine! I'll order some safety nets, Boss."

I smiled, moved away, and Kit brought me back to kiss him again.

"Come on Kit, I can see you turning soft from here." All of the guys waited at the start of the course, dressed in their gym gear. There were six of them in total, including Kit and they each started warming up as Kit left me there to watch.

"You gonna be okay?" he asked and I nodded.

Kit and Jesse were going first, both being timed by the stopwatch in the other lads hand.

"You go first," Jesse said to Kit and he nodded, rubbing his hands together and eyeing up the task ahead.

Once Kit started climbing the ladder up to the start of the course, the other guys crowded around me. Kit was wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt and I stared in fascination as he pulled it over his head and chucked it on to the base, leaving him only in his shorts. I gulped, seeing him high on a pedestal with his bare six-pack on full display. The same guy that had the stopwatch in his hand also had a whistle. He watched as Kit sized up the rings in front of him. Once Kit nodded his head he blew the whistle and Kit moved fast, gripping his hands into the rings and around the metal hanging above his head. He swung himself from one to another like a monkey. It was impressive, to say the least. Watching his whole body tighten and flex as he twisted and reached his arms to grab the next ring, made me a little bit uncomfortable. Uncomfortable because it was sexy as hell!

Once he'd completed the first part of the course, the second required balance. He had to focus and jump from one obstacle to the next, with nothing but the pavement between each of them. Each obstacle only got higher with every balanced step, meaning not only did he have to balance but he had to climb as well. I could see the determination on his face as he completed it like a boss. He took a quick breather and prepared for the run-up that was needed. Once he took the short run-up he sprinted, jumping higher into the air and I gasped. With the rope in hand, he gripped it tighter and began climbing the knotted rope, patched together like a net. He had to climb up the rope and climb over the other side, all the time the pavement a sheer drop away. It made me so nervous and once he was over the top and at the other side I moved further with the other guys to see him taking on the next part of the challenge.

"You watching, Jesse?" Kit shouted down and I couldn't help but shake my head, smiling at him.

  The cocky shit.

"This is the part Jesse always fucks up," one of the guys next to me said.

"Just you wait, Mate," Jesse smiled and I kept my eyes on Kit as he chucked himself through the air and latched onto a hanging rope. A single rope situated by itself. To get to the next one he had to climb higher to gain a swing, then leap. I watched as his hands slipped and I gasped. Each of the guys made a sound together and then cheered once he quickly brought it back and climbed back up the rope.

Again, he swung from that rope to the next one, using his technique to not lose his grip or fall. I stood, my mouth slightly agape just looking at how drop-dead gorgeous he was. It made my mouth water just staring at him. The last part of the course was a rock climbing challenge. Again, it had no safety net or safety mats beneath and once he got to the top he had to abseil back down again by a rope to the side. Safe to say, I was an anxious mess by the end of the course. Watching Kit climbing, and getting a full view of his back showed his strength and it was unbelievably sexy.

Then watching him abseil back down, like Spiderman made my insides tingle and we all clapped as he grinned and made his way back. He collected his t-shirt and came straight towards me, kissing my cheek as he brought his arm around my back.

  "How'd I do?" he asked,

  "You're a bloody ninja," I answered positively.

It made him smile as Jesse got ready to compete. Jesse did a great job too, despite what I'd been told about his previous tries. He didn't fall, but he did take longer to finish than Kit.

He was younger and had plenty of time to catch up. Each of the guys were bloody amazing and I stood fascinated by each of them and their sheer strength. I could understand why an assault course like this was good for them. A couple of lads were making their way over, and I recognised them instantly. It was Nick and Jax.

"You still competing on this damn thing?" Jax asked them, then nodding his head at me in greeting.

Nick moved towards me and gave me a quick side hug and stared up at the assault course.

"Not all of us can muster it first time, Jax," one of the guys said making them all smile.

"You've done it?" I asked Jax.

He nodded. "We all have. Jesse is still tryna find something he can beat us at," he grinned.

I caught sight of Jesse's face, a clear grin plastered across. He had a towel wrapped around his neck as he approached and he held it at each end.

"Well, as a matter of fact, I have found something. But instead, we'll all be competing as a team. That doesn't mean we can't all place our own little bets, though. Best part, we can raise money doing it too."

I smiled, noticing a sweet spot to Jesse. I hadn't known him long but it was nice to hear he cared about that.

"And what's that?" Nick asked, crossing his arms.

"You ever heard of the tough mudder challenge?"

  "I haven't, but it sounds…."

"Muddy," I filled in and Nick smirked at me.

"Yeah, well, two miles of absolute sludge."

Jax, Kit and Nick all nodded and I raised my eyebrows.

"Does that mean you're in?" he asked, staring at each of them. "What about placing bets? You sure you'll wanna compete against each other?" Jesse asked and I scoffed.

"They compete against each other on a daily basis anyway."

The brothers were constantly squabbling and challenging each other. It was part of their banter.

"I like it," Kit said. "Have Tricia pick a charity, sure she won't mind organising it. We'll get everyone involved."

Jesse grinned, getting excited like a little boy at Christmas.

"So, let me get this straight, we're gonna purposely run through shit?" Nick asked.

"Mud, Mate," Jax smiled, holding onto Nick's shoulder.

Nick nodded not very enthusiastically as Kit went to grab some of the equipment to tidy up.

Jax came towards me. "How are you feeling today?"

I nodded. "I'm good. How are you? I haven't seen you at Delta before."

"They make sure to keep me locked up behind the scenes where I'm needed."

I couldn't help but notice the sarcasm in his voice and before I had the chance to question it, Kit returned ready to leave.

The next week was really busy for the brothers, for some reason. I spent most of my time alone or with Lilly who had thankfully been granted some free time. We never complained about her always being busy at work, she had her own business as a beauty therapist and business was always booming for her, especially during the wedding season.

"Is there something going on at Delta or something?" Lilly asked, before shovelling popcorn into her mouth. Now that I pretty much lived here, I'd invited Lilly to come over and watch some movies with me. She was fine with it, in fact, she was happy as long as she could avoid Nick. He was currently working, just like all the other lads were.

"No, at least I don't think so," I answered, remembering all the time's something had been going on at Delta and Kit hadn't told me about it. I tried to rid myself of that thought, because if I didn't, we'd never truly be able to be happy.

"Apart from probably training hard for that tough mudder challenge."

"Tough-a-what?" Lilly stared at me and I laughed.

  "Seriously, look it up."

Lilly didn't take long on her phone before she found a hilarious YouTube video
. We both sat laughing at it once she moved closer so I could watch it too.

"I have got to see this," she said.

"Well, they're doing it for charity so that's good. I'll let you know when they're doing it."

"A load of fit and sweaty men running through mud with masks on?" Lilly stared into space, trying to imagine it and I laughed.

"They won't have their masks on, and no one will know that they're from Delta. As far as everyone else will know, they'll just be a group of lads raising money."

We both chuckled more as we continued to watch videos and right on queue Kit and Nick returned home and stared in on us. Lilly sat up properly, her body instantly changing at the sight of Nick.

"Well, I should go," she said, standing up. "I have an appointment."

I nodded and cuddled her. To my surprise, as she passed Kit he lifted his fist to give her respect and she smiled before pumping her fist against his. Then came the awkward stare between her and Nick. Normally he would continue watching her while she dodged his eyes like bullets. I sighed once she was gone, and Kit came over and knelt before me.

"How's my baby doing?" he brought his ear to my stomach and it made me smile.

  "They like popcorn."

He brought his nose to my stomach then and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed as Nick watched our interaction from the doorway.

"Listen, buddy," Kit spoke against my stomach. "Sweet and salted popcorn is like having pineapple on pizza. Mummy may be fooling you now, but wait until you're outside…"

I bit my lip and stared at him with pure love fogging my eyes.

"You two really need to hurry up and get married," Nick commented before pushing himself off of the door frame so he could go into the kitchen.

Kit stared up at me, smiling and eyeing my lip that was hidden between my teeth.

"Perhaps just a movie, for now?" he asked, eyeing my released lip.

I tried not to redden under his stare, it made him grin and then he pulled me up.

"I should get a shower," Kit said once we were upstairs and I planned on getting changed into something more comfortable.

My skinnies really weren't cutting it anymore. The only thing they were cutting was my waistline. I reached into the set of drawers Kit had made clear for me to pull something more comfortable out. Despite me not officially moving in yet, more and more of my things were making their way here. So much so that I didn't need to go home hardly at all anymore to gather my things.

"You wanna join me?" Kit said from over my shoulder and my body trembled under the closeness.

I reached down then with him behind me, bending down directly in front of him to take my skinnies off. Once I'd pulled them down my behind I felt Kit's hands on my arse, caressing and squeezing it gently. We were still yet to try doggy, but I could tell he was getting a feel for it as he pulled my behind against his groin. There, I felt his erection through the clothing. Standing back up straight, I was about to pull my top off when Kit's fingers snuck under the fabric and pulled it over my head. Gently, he nibbled the bare skin on my shoulder and kissed up my neck and to my ear as he ran his hands up and down my body. I wanted to feel him so badly so I turned around and ran my hands over his bare shoulders and up through his hair. Frowning, I gripped a hold of something I'd found amongst his hair and in my fingers, I pulled it out of his hair and showed it to him. It looked like plaster.

"God knows how that got there," he commented and I grinned.

"They building a sculpture of you at Delta too?" I asked, noticing the smear of something like concrete on his shoulder.

"Wouldn't surprise me," he commented whilst staring at my lips.

"Well, they love you that much," I replied.

Kit took his chance then to kiss my bottom lip, he drew it between his teeth before bringing his tongue towards mine. It was making me so hot and he knew that. He gripped a hold of my arse once more, using my knickers to thread his fingers so he could pull me closer.

"Damn girl, you've got more curves than a hot wheels track," he said looking down at me.

I bit my lip and smiled, enjoying his hands running down my waist and back up again.

"We might have to delay the shower, Miss Johnson."

"Really? What would you have me do instead, Mr. Carson?"

He gently moved me back and onto the cabinet situated beside the wall. It wasn't the first time this had happened and I was beginning to wonder if we should have kept the surface clear because every time this had happened, various things had been knocked off in the process. Once he was sure I was lifted on top, he gripped his fingers within the band on my knickers and pulled them down my legs, leaving me naked on top of the glossy wood. The height of the cabinet worked to our advantage because Kit could easily slide into me without having to move either of us at all. My legs had wrapped around the back of his thighs as he positioned himself and filled me. I whimpered and gripped my fingers into Kit's shoulders as he began making love to me. Using his hands positioned around my lower back, he pulled my body back and forth as he withdrew and then thrust back into me. I hummed in pleasure but noticed how much noise we were making as the cabinet smacked against the wall.

"We're making too much noise," I breathed, not wanting this to stop.

"Don't. Care." Kit replied kissing me ravenously.

He breathed heavily and closed his eyes briefly. The look on his face heightened my need, sending bolts through my core just admiring how bloody gorgeous he looked. We continued like that, gripping at each others bodies until we eventually found our release. Kit held me there once we were both fulfilled and I cuddled into his chest as he regulated his breathing back to normal. Eventually, he lifted me down off of the cabinet and I kissed him before wandering off into the bathroom. I looked over my shoulder and smiled at him as he just stood staring at me.

He found me shortly after in the shower, rinsing my hair and joined me.

"So, we gonna talk about that pick-up line?" I asked, laying on Kit's bed.

"Pick up line?" he frowned, looking down at me.

"The Hotwheels one, where did you get that from?"

He smirked, "You think I can't make up my own chat up lines?"

I eyed him, wondering if he'd come up with a cheesy pickup line like that.

Eventually, he chuckled. "Okay, I got it from The Simpson's."

"You're shitting me? You used a line from The Simpson's on your pregnant girlfriend?" I asked, teasing him. "I can't believe you," I added before getting up and walking away. Hearing Kit's laughter laid a warm glow over my body and I wished I could hear it more.

The next day we were gonna be like a normal couple. Despite the nerves, we were gonna go into town and wander boring shops. The more I thought about it, the more I hated the idea. I thought about just ordering some pregnancy pants online. I brought the idea to Kit, still feeling a bit nervous about needing them at all. He wasn't having it. He was determined for us to get out of this house as a couple to buy me some fat pants. I didn't have a very big bump yet, but I wore my skinnies as tight as possible which meant they just weren't doing the job anymore. It was probably a great idea, but once we got into town and Kit parked his car in the carpark I could see him on edge, checking every face that passed us as we got out of his car and walked to the shops. I could tell he was trying his best to act normal and did help me get some pregnancy skinnies. He refused to let me pay for them though, and instead of arguing in the shop I decided to give in. I could tell how on edge he was already and I was thankful that he offered to take me into a coffee shop. I was surprised that he wasn't in a rush to go home, but it made me realise. This was always going to be something we would have to fight for. This freedom. Even after we could truly say that any threat had been demolished, after everything we'd been through, we still wouldn't ever be able to live normally again. It would take time.

"What you thinking about, Blondie?" Kit asked as we sat at our table.

I was eyeing the drinks menu and trying to r
elax.

"Right now, I'm thinking about a whippy cappuccino with a vanilla shot."

It made him smile as he stared at me.

"But, I'm gonna opt for the mango smoothie, hoping it has far fewer calories."

"Eves, you're pregnant. You're supposed to put weight on. I know buying pregnancy pants has freaked you out but you aren't, and never will be, fat."

I thought about what he'd said and nodded.

  "Thank you."

He nodded and sat back in his seat.

  "I'm still opting for a smoothie though…"

He smirked and got up to order our drinks as I sat staring out of the window, watching passers-by. The longer I sat there the more I thought about the individual people, looking at their faces and trying to work out their character from the way they looked at other people. Then I realised, I couldn't work out people like that. That the most lovely looking person could be the evilest fucker of them all. It set a deep panic in my stomach as I glanced around the coffee shop. Everyone surrounding me was a stranger. Any of them could potentially be here to track us, to keep tabs on us. I glanced back out of the window again and nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw a guy pressed up against the window, his hands up beside his eyes trying to look through the window. Once he saw me jumping out of my skin he apologised through the glass and I realised he was just looking for someone. I took a deep breath and looked out of the window again when I saw a man passing that had Ralph's face. I got up quickly and took a few steps back, bumping straight into Kit’s body.

"There's… there's—" I mumbled trying to get my words out and as I stared back outside at the man, now feeling the safety from Kit's hands on my hips, I realised the man wasn't Ralph at all. I lowered my head, feeling absolutely crazy as it dawned on me that my mind had just completely made that up.

"I thought I saw someone," I said to Kit once he turned me around.

"Are you okay?" he asked and I just stared at him. I felt numb from the shock but I eventually nodded and apologised for my outburst.

"I need to leave," I eventually said and he nodded before following after me.
