“How could it?” He nipped Cade’s jaw before trailing kisses down his throat.

He sucked as he smoothed his hand down Cade’s chest. Cade groaned harshly, his stomach muscles tightening beneath Zan’s touch. He stroked long fingers over Cade’s hip and then between his legs to brush his swollen cock.

Cade trembled, breathing harshly. Cade’s eyes held a wealth of need and hunger that burned him.

“I need you, Zan,” Cade murmured. “I need you to want just me, right now.”

“I do want just you, baby,” he admitted. “I hunger for you, your touch.” Zan kissed him softly and then brushed kisses over Cade’s jaw and then his collarbone.

He wanted to make Cade come apart for him as he always did with him. He wanted to be unforgettable to Cade, the man who owned his heart because Cade damn sure had a piece of his.

  Chapter Eleven

Zan’s soft lips moved over his skin and his tongue snaked around the tiny point of Cade’s nipple, flicked over it, and then sucked. And Cade pushed his fingers into Zan’s thick hair moaning softly.

He basked in the sensations washing over him as Zan laved the turgid peak while his fingers pinched the other nipple hard. Breath rushed out of Cade and intense pleasure washed over him.

Zan sucked at the hard tip before lightly biting it, drawing a ragged moan from Cade. Zan bit the delicate flesh sending a slash of delicious pain through him. Zan then turned his attention to the neglected tip, lashing it as warm breath fanned Cade’s chest.

“Zan, you make me crazy with hunger,” Cade said roughly.

Zan thumped his nipple before swirling his tongue around the areola. He speared the tip and then closed his hot mouth over it. The sweet suction went straight to Cade’s dick and it jerked, hot and eager for action.

Cade made soft noises as Zan sucked harder. “I love that,” he confessed roughly as he pulled Zan’s hair.

Zan released his flesh and licked down over Cade’s stomach, drawing his tongue around the interesting little protrusion of his belly button. It was gold with broken blue lines and shards of crystal around it, and a tiny gold flower petal lay inside.

Zan caught it between his teeth and Cade gasped as unchecked fire spread through him. He was never prepared for the unmitigated pleasure that shot through him when Zan touched him there. It was an erogenous zone that made his cock leak and throb.

  “Zan,” Cade cried breathlessly.

Zan ran a finger over the button, pinched it, and Cade gasped as pleasure rushed through him. Zan sank to his knees and gripped Cade’s thickly jutting cock and ran his tongue around the blue triangular head.

He’d rarely allowed men to go down on him before Zan because he always had to come up with some lie about the color and shape of his penis. He caught his breath as teeth lightly raked the head while a firm hand pumped the shaft.

“Fuck, Zan.” He moaned and thrust his hips forward. “Suck my dick,” he begged.

Zan tightened the suction of his mouth and sucked, sending shards of pleasure through him so extreme, he could hardly stand it. Cade tightened his grip in Zan’s hair and fucked his mouth slowly.

Zan took him deeper, sucking harder as he gripped his ass cheeks. His head came up before he sank back down, lips fastening on his flesh again. Cade screamed and trembled as he struggled to stay upright.

Then, Zan ran his fingers down the seam of his ass and let one dip past the cheeks to caress the treasure between them. The digit slipped past to breach the tight ring of muscles. The pain was a kiss of pleasure that drew a low whimper from him.

Zan lifted his head and got to his feet, then turned Cade to face the mirror over the vanity. He kissed a path down the center of his back as he reached out to open a drawer. He bit Cade’s shoulder lightly and licked over the sting before meeting his gaze in the mirror.

“I want you with every breath I take, Cade.”

Cade shivered and Zan dropped his hand on his ass and a jolt of pain rushed him. He closed his eyes savoring the ache. Zan hit him again before twisting the cap off the small bottle he’d taken from the drawer. He poured some onto the counter and dipped his fingers in it. A moment later, a drizzle of cool lube licked the pucker of his anus as a long finger pushed into his ass.

“Fuck, baby,” Cade said breathlessly. He shivered as Zan’s finger pushed in deeper and slid out. He added more lube and slipped two fingers inside, the burn building, and Cade clenched on them.

“You’re so damn tight,” Zan murmured. “I love how good you feel cradling my dick.” He kissed the side of Cade’s neck as their gazes held in the mirror. The intimacy of the moment stole his breath.

Zan fucked his fingers in, drew them out, and repeated, loosening up his body.

“Zan, now,” he pleaded. “I’m going to go crazy if you don’t fuck me now.”

Cade groaned and panted as Zan fucked him harder.

Cade reached for his cock. It pulsed and leaked the pale blue pre-cum.

Hard and deep, Zan’s fingers drove into him, brushed his prostate and retreating before brushing up against it again, causing bliss to unfold in his belly. “Yes!”

He was going to come. He felt the need boiling in his balls like a bomb on the verge of exploding.

Zan quickly pulled his fingers free and Cade barely registered the whisper of fabric behind him. Moments later, he felt the blunt head of Zan’s dick push inside him.

The tight tissues of his ass were slowly parted, nerve endings firing. Cade hissed at the rush of pleasure as Zan filled him in two strokes.

“Damn, baby,” Zan cried as Cade’s inner muscles clenched around him.

Zan didn’t wait long before he gripped both of Cade’s hips and moved in him. His strokes were light and easy at first as the pleasure began to swell anew in Cade’s belly. Then, Zan took him fast and hard.

Cade caught his bottom lip between his teeth and thrust his hips back to meet Zan pump for pump. Each plunge was hotter than the one before it, and the heavy veins on Zan’s shaft massaged his ass, sending pleasure shooting through him, making him hot and wild.

Cade mewled as the hard strokes stabbed into his ass. Zan’s balls slapped against his ass. He threw his head back to Zan’s shoulder as he flew out of control.

“Oh, fuck yeah!” Cade screamed and Zan drove into him again and again. “Zan!” Cade came hard, shooting his load onto the wood of the island again.

“Fuck!” Zan’s hard cry followed his and Cade felt the hot seed rush into his ass.

Breathing hard, Cade slumped forward, legs like jelly as he struggled to hold himself up. Zan kissed the back of his neck before turning him to drop a kiss on his lips and Cade leaned against him.

“You just wring me out,” Cade murmured as he ran his hand up Zan’s damp chest.

“We should get cleaned up and have that lunch you picked up,” Zan said softly. “I want to spend some non-sexual time with you.”

Cade studied him, his brows knitting into a frown. “She wants to have lunch with us tomorrow.”

  “Who?”

“Zaria. I ran into her at the diner when I stopped to pick up our lunch.”

“She’s working as my assistant until Jenna returns,” Zan told him and Cade glared at him and pushed him away.

“She works for Jarvis,” Cade snapped. “Why didn’t they send a temp?”

“I think Jarvis thinks she’ll be easier to control than someone else,” Zan replied.

Cade pushed out a rough sigh. “I don’t think I should have to share the man I care about with someone else just to have him. We can hire a surrogate when we’re ready to have kids.”

  Zan frowned. “A surrogate?”

Cade laughed bitterly. “Go ahead and fuck her and get it out of your system, Zan. I’ll even do it with you once, but we’re not going to rush it. I want to go out with her beyond lunch tomorrow first, let things happen naturally.”

“I think she’s cute and I’m attracted to her, but if you make me choose—”
>
“I know.” Cade averted his gaze. Hurt and anger were a staccato beat inside him.

“You’re the one I don’t want to live without,” Zan told him quietly before retreating.

Cade stared at the door, shock a vine keeping him rooted to the spot.

  Him?

  Zan would choose him?

And he would slowly come to hate him for asking him to give up something that seemed so fundamental to his life.

Loving a man wasn’t supposed to be this hard.

Cade cleaned up and headed out to his bedroom to dress. He ran a comb through his hair and studied his taut expression in the mirror of his dresser.

“I have to at least give her a fair try.”

If there is truly nothing there within six months, no connection between all three of us, then I can walk away.

“What’s six lousy months out of my romantic life?”

He already liked Zaria, was attracted to her in a way that scared him. So, this six months could be a time of self-discovery.

Women in general didn’t turn him on, but for some reason, she did. What harm could it do to find out if this was something real or just an odd fascination?

That was the scary part. There were uncertainties, and variables he couldn’t control that made this a terrifying leap into the unknown. But it was a step he had to take, even if it led to him losing his heart to a woman.

  Chapter Twelve

When Cade made his way to the kitchen, Zan had already loaded the meal onto their plates and poured them each a glass of sweet tea. He was seated at the café-style table in the breakfast nook with a napkin tucked into the front of his shirt and Cade smirked at him.

“Afraid you’re going to mess up that spiffy shirt?”

Zan grinned. “Damn right. I’m not used to this kind of daywear.”

“You’ll get used to it,” he said and climbed up in the chair opposite him at the table that sat four. Zan had taken the chair that put his back to the wall. “Lunch is at one tomorrow.”

Zan nodded. “If now isn’t the time in our relationship for this, I’ll understand, Cade,” he said quietly. “Just promise me in a year or two we can revisit the issue.”

“You make it sound as if I’m the one you want forever,” he said pensively. “Last night you were going on as if you didn’t accept my claim that you were mine.”

Zan gave him a faint smile. “I know how I come off, Cade, but I didn’t want to get too close to you because I knew what you wanted. The fact is, I wanted you more than I ever wanted anyone, male or female, and it scared me a little.”

  Cade swallowed tightly. “Why?”

“I knew there was a chance I’d always be asking too much of anyone I fell for,” he began carefully. “I can’t stop being who I am. If not Zaria, there will be a woman in my life someday, and it won’t just be my daughter.”

“I’m starting to realize that, and I appreciate that you’re finally talking to me instead of brushing off my fears.” He reached across the table and put his hand on Zan’s. “I’ve been falling in love with you since the first day we met, and I’m taking a big leap with giving you this time with her. You could fall for her—”

“I could, but she won’t be you,” he said. “I know it’s hard to believe, baby, but a man can love two people with everything inside of him at the same time.”

Cade squeezed his hand. “Six months, Zan, and no more. I’m going to keep an open mind and let things take their natural course.”

Zan sighed softly, the relief in his eyes clear. “Why?”

Cade shrugged. “Because you hold my heart.”

“And you hold mine, Cade,” Zan confessed.

“Plus, I kind of like her,” Cade said and withdrew his hand as he looked down at the meal. “Freaks me out that I’m sort of attracted to her.”

Zan touched his hand, caressed it. “Don’t be scared to let go, Zaria is eager to catch you.”

Cade’s head snapped up. “What do you mean?”

“She wants to get to know you,” Zan told him and smiled faintly. “But I’m glad there’s a spark of something for her inside you. That will make this so much better than it was with Alicia.”

“I didn’t like her like that.”

“Oh, I know,” Zan said and removed his hand. “Thank you.”

  “For what?”

“Trusting me enough to tell me how you feel about her.”

“I trust you, honey,” he murmured. “With way too much.” Cade dug into his meal.

Zan did the same. “This is good,” he said. “I bet Daisy made it.”

  “Is she a good cook?”

“Yeah, but sometimes she’s amazing,” Zan replied and his cell phone rang. He groaned and got up to get it from the counter. “Sorry about this.”

“Not a problem. We’re career men.” He preferred Zan as a farmer to a politician.

“I’m coming,” he said. “But I didn’t think that meeting was until tomorrow. … He did, did he? Why? … No, Zaria, I’ll be there. Don’t cancel it. It’ll be better if I meet them today than wait…It’ll take me—” He glanced at Cade lifting his brows.

  Cade shrugged. “Now?”

“Ten minutes.” He laughed. … “Yeah, I need time to kiss Cade.” He disconnected and slipped the phone into its holster and Cade stood.

“Promise me, you’ll at least eat with me tonight?” Cade said, going to him and running his hands up Zan’s chest.

“If you stay the night,” Zan said in a teasing tone. “I want to really get to know you, Cade, go beyond where we are now.”

“I’ll stay,” he agreed. “In fact, if you have two minutes, I’ll pack a bag for you to take with you and I can just come home after I leave the office to do a quick change.”

Zan kissed him. “Sounds like a plan.”

  * * * *

When Cade got back to the office Jarvis was there waiting for him. He groaned when his boss ordered him into his office with an enigmatic smile.

“Jaxon quit, but that’s to be expected,” Jarvis told him. “He couldn’t stand having to stare down defeat every day.”

Cade snorted. “I’m sure that has nothing to do with it,” he retorted.

“Believe what you want, but he’s a sore loser,” he said and then chuckled as he shoved files into his briefcase. “I need you to take a few cases on. I’m going to be rather busy in the coming weeks.”

“That’s what you have Zannon for,” Cade replied coolly. “To handle some of the workload.”

“Fact is, Cade, I’ve already prepared a petition to the council to eliminate Zannon’s position. We’re Americans. Mayors don’t have council members, who are in effect deputy mayor, that look over their shoulder and prevent them from doing their jobs.”

“We’re only half American, Jarvis,” he retorted. “Our system of government reflects that.”

“But it shouldn’t reflect anything other than the norm.”

“It is the norm and has been since before you were born. Where do you get off thinking you’re supposed to be a dictator?”

Jarvis gave him a hard stare. “I’m attempting to do what’s right for the town, not those of you who’ve been brainwashed.”

“Whatever,” he muttered. “What cases do you want me to take over?”

“Ashley’s daughter, Miranda, wants to sue the sheriff for wrongful death. So meet with her and determine if the case has merit.”

  “What!”

“Her mother was killed last night meeting someone after hours. She was going to sell some family heirlooms that weren’t confiscated after her husband was killed. If the sheriff hadn’t killed her husband, she’d still be alive. If her livelihood hadn’t been confiscated, she’d still be alive.”

“Her husband was a thief,” Cade snapped. “That bastard tried to steal heirlooms from me when my parents died. I’m not touching that. As far as I’m concerned, Beets got what he deserved, and she didn’t lose her business. She lost the items Beets s
windled people out of, and he was responsible for killing the mayor.”

Jarvis tsked at him. “It’s not for you to judge.”

“I’m not taking that case.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “What else?”

“Judge Logan is being sued for sexual harassment by his clerk.”

“What? That old coot isn’t any more interested in a twenty-four-year-old than he is a two-year-old. I’m not taking that either.”

“This is going to be a high-profile case and if you piss it down the drain you’re fired.”

  “I quit,” he said.

  “You have open cases!”

“I’ll finish them, but I’m not going to help you go after a judge who’s done nothing wrong other than to pose opposition to your agenda.”

  “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Judge Logan is a good friend of one of the western elders on the council, and she takes his advice pretty often. So, your plan’s to get him taken out of play because you’re afraid your plan to get Zan’s job down-graded to mere councilor might fail.”

“You bastard,” he snarled. “You have no idea who you’re fucking with and neither does Andron.”

“I think the problem is, you can’t intimidate him into doing what you want so you’re going to try to get your way by any other means necessary,” Cade said coldly.

“You’re right about that,” he said in a silky tone that raised the hairs on the back of Cade’s neck. “Finish up those cases and pray you don’t end up on the business end of something nasty.”

Chills ran down his spine at the coldness in Jarvis’s stare. He backed out of the room with every intention of quitting after he talked to the clients he’d been working with.

Ashley’s killer stared out the window enjoying his view into the square. The town boasted no monuments to dead generals or presidents, but it did offer beautiful views of trees and flowers.

“Jarvis’s plan to eliminate a bit of the opposition is on track,” he said and glanced to his right where a southern elder sat at his desk typing away.
