“It’s okay,” Kel said. “Do you want to keep it in the closet?”

He shook his head. “I’m not hiding anymore, Kel. If our town is going to progress into whatever it was meant to be, the hiding has to stop.”

Kel nodded. “Okay. So, how did business go?”

  Chapter Seventeen

He told Kel about his trip and Kel filled him in on what had happened while he was gone. By the end of dinner, Jaxon was determined not to tuck his tail and run from the obvious challenge of convincing the town he hadn’t set out to deceive or betray them.

“Is this dessert?” Jaxon pointed to a box on the counter after they’d cleared away their dinner dishes.

  “Yep. Open it.”

Jaxon carefully lifted the lid on the white pastry box. Twinkling up at him was a gold chain with a lightning-bolt charm. He laughed, his heart melting all over again. Kel might be hiding a romantic nature after all.

“Baby this is so cute.” He turned to find Kel leaning against the counter watching him with gold eyes filled with—love. His lungs stopped and his breath stalled in his chest.

  “I didn’t know if you’d wear jewelry.”

“I—yes. For you I’d do anything, don’t you know that?”

Kel closed the distance and brushed his fingers over the smooth brown sugar skin of Jaxon’s cheek. “I do love you, Jax.” He lowered his head and brushed soft lips against Jax’s and heat and anticipation ran wild inside him.

Breathing hard, Jaxon’s hands went to Kel’s hips as Kel cupped his face.

“This part of me that’s yours, is yours alone. Zier or anyone else will never be in that section of my soul or my heart, sweets.”

Kel claimed his mouth and Jaxon sank into him with a soft sigh. The kiss was sweet and gentle at first as Kel’s tongue lazily explored, teased. The electricity inside him roared to life sparking in his blood, turning it hot.

Jaxon moaned, straining closer. His hands scrubbed up Kel’s sides before he tugged his shirt from his jeans and pushed his hands beneath to caress warm skin. Their tongues tangled slowly, and he curled his hand around Kel’s neck to pull him closer. He loved the feel of his tongue fucking into his mouth, the way it glided against his, and the light playful nip of his bottom lip. It was sensual and made his cock swell and throb in his pants.

Kel’s hands moved down his back, cupping Jaxon’s ass. He squeezed and Jaxon groaned, his body vibrating with need. He lifted on tip-toe to rub his erection against Kel’s. He wanted every inch of them naked and touching.

Kel kissed the corner of his mouth before his warm lips moved to his jaw. Jaxon panted, electricity seeping through his skin as he angled his head to allow Kel access to his neck and throat. He loved the play of warm tongue over his skin, the nip of sharp teeth.

Jaxon scraped his fingers over Kel’s back as he arched up grinding their cocks together. Kel’s love was hot and consuming and his body loved it.

“You feel so good, Kel,” he murmured. “Love the way you’ve got me so hot. I’m like chocolate chips ready to pool into rich chocolate goodness.”

Kel chuckled at his ear and then drew his tongue down the column of his throat and then kissed his chin. “I need some oil to facilitate that melting,” he said thickly and backed away from Jaxon to retrieve a bottle of olive oil.

Jaxon pushed his pants and briefs down and kicked them out of the way. Kel grinned as he set the bottle next to him. He kissed him softly as he reached to close his fingers over his erection. He swiped his thumb over the pearly drop of pre-cum beaded on the tip. He smoothed it over Jaxon’s cock, and Jax let out a ragged breath.

“Yeah. I like that.” He loved Kel’s gentle touch and firm hold. He leaned toward him and kissed his jaw as he pushed his hand back beneath his shirt. “You get me so needy for you.”

“The feeling’s mutual baby, I promise.” Kel claimed his lips for a slow kiss. “Look at your pretty eyes. All fired with electricity.” He worked Jaxon’s cock with firm pulls.

Jaxon groaned roughly, and thrust into the big hand. “Kel.” The word was tight with erotic tension. “Please fuck me,” he begged. “I need you.” He stroked his hand over Kel’s erection and squeezed. “I want you inside me.” He shivered as he recalled the last time Kel had been inside him.

He worked Kel’s belt open and then unbuttoned his pants and dragged down the zipper. He reached into his briefs and pulled the thick length free.

“Fuck! If you play with it, I won’t last.”

Jax kissed his jaw. “Then, I’ll have to get it up again,” he teased.

Kel chuckled. “You’re going to do that anyway.” He released Jax and grabbed the oil. He poured some into his palm and slathered his cock with it. “Turn around, sweet thang,” he ordered.

Jax did and grinned at the light tap on his ass. The bloated head of his lover’s cock nudged at the pucker of his anus before pushing gently inside the entrance of his body. He gripped the counter.

“Tell me what you fantasized about while you were gone,” Kel said as he pushed further inside and then withdrew.

  “You. You know that.”

“Just me?” His lips grazed the back of Jaxon’s neck and then he pushed further inside the tight confines of his ass.

“You and Zier,” he said breathlessly. “I wanted you both.”

“At the same time? Both of us filling your tight little treasure box?” He pushed deeper and Jaxon shuddered.

The thick length burned over his tight tissues sending thrills of pleasure through him. A little pain was pleasure when Kel took him. “Baby, you feel like heaven.”

“How does this feel?” He thrust in to his root and Jaxon made a soft noise of pleasure.

“Like you claiming me.” He reached back to stroke the back of his lover’s neck. Jaxon clenched around the thickness and felt his man’s warm breath on his neck. He smiled and then let out a soft grunt as Kel began to move in him. He moved with him savoring every thrust in and retreat out. His body thrummed with electricity, with desire. They both wrapped around him and kissed him hard.

“Oh fuck!” Kel drew back and thrust into him again.

The sounds of wet sex filled the air in a symphony with harsh male grunts. Kel’s balls slapped against the lower curves of Jaxon’s ass and Jaxon’s head fell forward as the thrust pushed him off his feet.

“Oh, God. Oh God, yeah!” he cried as the pleasures built and the pressure threatened to bring him undone. “Kel!” His orgasm detonated through him, tightening his body. His cum squirted against the bottom of his T-shirt and the cabinet as his head tilted to rest against the side of Kel’s face.

“Damn!” Kel came hard, his breath kissing the back of Jaxon’s neck. “Sweets, I love you.”

  “Love you, too.

Colm’s phone rang softly into the silence of his small apartment five hours later. He blinked awake in the living room where the light from the TV shone on him. He grunted as the remote control dug into his side and shifted reaching to the coffee table for his phone.

A quick glance at the display told him it was the call he’d been waiting for. He connected. “Yeah?”

“Meet me at Pine Bluff Park.”

“Are we really going to finish this tonight?” he asked. “I know it’s the only way to get him out of the running, but what about Zan Andron? I’ll still have competition for the council seat and right now, no one’s been talking about voting against him.”

“Just meet me,” the voice on the other end of the line ordered.

“Fine, I’m on my way. What about Jarvis?”

  “He’s coming. Bring the card.”

The line went dead and Colm swung his booted feet to the floor. He’d been on board with getting rid of Jaxon from the start, and hated the fact that he’d screwed up. He still didn’t understand how that bullet had missed his fucking heart. After getting a look at that file Alexa had taken from the crime scene he knew Jaxon and his supporters had to go.

/>   He headed to his bedroom to grab his leather jacket and his gun. Tonight there would be no misses, and their town would begin its new era. They’d take out all the southern side’s old men soon and then move on to the rest of the pure-breeds. They had to rid their town of this poison before it infected the next generation.

Course, his pal on the phone would be last, but he would go. He was nothing more than a threat waiting to manifest. Jarvis had already decided the help and insight would be invaluable, but their aid’s life was forfeit when the time was right. He grabbed his Bowie knife in its black sheath and snapped it onto the back of his belt. He’d be able to reach it easy if he needed it.

The drive to the park took him all of five minutes in the empty streets of Willow Brooke. It was barely after midnight on a Friday, but people were safely behind closed doors here tonight since there was no social. Tomorrow, kids would still be out, lingering in the park and their parents would be having a little playtime at home.

He parked in the deserted lot and cut the engine. There was no sign of his companion or the two others who’d agreed to do this. Colm assumed they must have used the other entrance and parked on that side. He took the jogger’s path which wound through the park toward the bluff and deep into the vast grounds.

He stepped off the beaten path heading for the bluff. He could almost see over the entire town from there and beneath the bluff was a series of caves. Most were too dangerous to access, but cat shifters and some brave teenage boys used them like their own personal stomping grounds.

The rustle of leaves behind him jerked his head to the thicket of bushes. He didn’t see anything and told himself it was just one of the damned cats.

“Lou?” he called the name of the cop. He felt eyes on him and jerked around to find one of his companions striding toward him. “Where are the others?”

  “Where’s the card?”

He reached into the inside pocket of his leather jacket and retrieved the small plastic case the card was in. “Is he coming?”

“Course. Did you talk to Christian?”

“I did, and he talks too much,” his companion answered. He noticed his hand clench around the plastic. Yeah, Christian had said too much to Rhys, but nothing could be done about that now. “He’s here.”

“You’re making him pull the trigger?” Colm asked with a frown. “Faking indifference to get a job at that queer club is one thing, but he’s no killer that’s why I made sure he didn’t come along the last time.”

“At least you didn’t tell him more than necessary,” his companion said coolly. “Let’s get to it then.”

  “Where’s Jaxon?” he asked.

“There.” He led the way to a clump of trees that would open into a small clearing that led to a trail down to the caves.

“We’re doing it there? No one will find him for days,” Colm complained.

“Just bring your ass.” He continued until they reached the clearing. Once they stepped into it he turned and Colm almost ran into him in the dark.

  “Damn.”

“I really do like you, Colm,” he said. “You have a ruthless streak that makes you almost as hard as Jarvis, but like him you’re going to become a thorn in my side.”

“What does that mean?” he asked carefully as alarm bells sounded in his head. He casually reached around to his back. He didn’t have any freaky alien psychic powers like some did, but the military had given him some handy skills not unlike the man in front of him.

His companion turned his head and Colm listened wondering if Christian was joining them to find out what was taking so long.

“Christian is damned weak though.” He turned, hand shifting, and Colm unsnapped the knife. Before he could move, his companion’s hand shot out, and the heel slammed into his nose.

Pain exploded through his face. He tasted blood and knew it was too late. He should have seen this coming. They’d both been special ops together.

Colm gave in to the darkness that pulled him in with irresistible force.

“Hey, w—” Christian broke off and only got one toe back before a bullet pierced his brain.

Daniel’s killer holstered his gun and walked around the tree to retrieve the black box he’d brought with him. It contained the tools he needed to finish this part of the job. The war would be starting soon and Colm should be happy his heart would be one of the bullets that started it in earnest.

  Chapter Eighteen

Jaxon snuggled against Kel’s back and kissed his neck. He smiled and then rolled out of bed. He padded into the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face before going to make coffee. He heard Kel moving around and smiled.

He went back to the bedroom to find Kel shirtless sitting on the edge of the bed. He ogled the olive skin with a smile as he went to sit next to him. Kel tumbled him to the bed and Jaxon laughed.

“Morning, you.” Kel kissed him and Jaxon moaned as he caressed the soft dark hair.

“I could get used to waking up with you,” Jaxon murmured, kissing his jaw as he draped one leg over Kel’s.

“Me too.” He took another sip from Jaxon’s mouth. “Except you’ve got to learn how to stay in bed a little longer.” He tickled him and Jaxon giggled.

  “Kel!” He laughed harder.

Kel rolled them over and Jaxon settled on top of him claiming his man’s mouth. “Let’s go to the diner for breakfast,” Kel said.

“I don’t know.” He moved against Kel. “I think I have all the breakfast I need right here.”

“Yeah?” Kel looked up at him with gold eyes full of hunger as his hands moved beneath the shirt Jaxon had slept in. He cupped his ass.

A hard knock caused Jaxon’s slow rub against Kel to stop as he groaned. “Son of a bitch has bad timing,” he muttered. Jaxon dropped a kiss on Kel’s lips. “Don’t move one gorgeous muscle. I’ll be right back.” He got to his feet and headed to the front door. A peek out of the peephole revealed empty air. He frowned and unlocked the door. He tugged it open and a bullet came at him.

Jaxon ducked and a barrage of bullets pelted his door. One grazed his shoulder and another nailed his hip. He let out a sharp cry and tried to get back into his apartment.

  “Lou!”

Jaxon heard Dade’s voice from somewhere. He looked around and a bullet slammed into his thigh. He was yanked backward as pain fired through him again. The bullet ripped a path through muscle and tendons.

“Shit.” Kel left him and returned with a cloth. He pressed it to his leg.

“God. It hurts,” Jaxon said hoarsely. “Fuck. Kel.”

“C’mon, sweets,” he said harshly. “Look at me.”

“It hurts. God. It’s the femoral isn’t it?” He felt weak and light headed.

“You’re just bleeding out a lot, that’s all.”

Shot filled the air outside along with sharp cries and then the door of Jaxon’s apartment burst open.

“Dade? Get my brother,” Kel ordered. “I can’t save him without him.”

“Called him on my way in,” he said tensely. “What can I do?”

“Get my bag from the bedroom,” he barked out. It’s in the closet. It’s in my gym bag.”

“Listen, sweets,” Kel said in an icy tone. “I’m going to knock you out with an energetic blast. It’ll feel like you’re suffocating. Don’t fight it.”

Jaxon panted. “Okay.” He trembled as he closed his eyes. “I love you, Kel. It’s not your fault, okay.”

“Don’t, Jax,” he said tightly. “Be ready.”

  * * * *

Kel shut down all thoughts and focused on the task at hand. He had to stop the bleeding. Removing bullets wasn’t exactly his specialty. He took his bag when Dade returned and opened it. He always carried a few herbal essentials with him for emergencies.

He pulled out a mixture that would quickly stop the bleeding and numb the thigh. He swallowed tightly as he uncapped the bottle of dry herbs. Kel shook the bottle and allowed a small amount of the mixture to fall onto t
he wound.

“Can you stop it?” Dade asked.

Kel didn’t answer. He drew in a deep breath and held his hand over the wound. He could dissolve the bullet and cause it to run out in the blood. That was his best out since he couldn’t just pull it out the way his brother could.

Kel focused on the bullet, felt the weight of it, and then caved it in on itself. He pulled at it mentally until the metal dissolved. Jaxon groaned softly but didn’t wake. He pulled the towel away and saw the gunmetal bleeding out. The human alloy would merely give him a fever as his body worked it out of his system. It would take a few days to expel it completely.

“Why is his blood the color of metal?”

“I had to dissolve the metal inside his body. He’s already developing a fever,” he said.

A quick knock on the door and Dade was at it. “Your brother’s waiting for you,” he said. “Jax was hit bad.”

“There’s still a bullet in him,” Kel said as Keyos rushed in. “I dissolved one already.”

“I’ve got him,” Keyos said. “Take care of the artery reconstruction. He’s still bleeding out too much.”

He went to work doing what he did best, sealing wounds and repairing damage. Kel kept his mind on the task at hand refusing to allow himself a thought of what might be. All their work could be in vain. Jaxon’s pulse was so weak and he was pale beneath his beautiful color.

When he was done, Kel sagged putting a hand on the floor and cursing himself for getting blood there. He touched Jaxon’s cheek with his other hand finding him cool.

“His body’s healing,” Keyos told his brother tiredly. “We need to get him home.”

  “Okay.”

“Be out there later to brief you,” Dade told them.

Jaxon was still out that afternoon thanks to an herbal sedative. When Zier arrived, Kel motioned him into the small room at the lodge. Beneath the first floor, they had a medical treatment center as well as a fully functional shelter that included a small kitchen and several bedrooms.
