  POSSESSIVE HUNTER

My brother’s best friend is a possessive hunter, possessively protecting animals in South Africa while he hunts poachers all by himself, in the middle of nowhere.

And nowhere is exactly where my life is headed if I can’t hunt him down myself and tell this older man about the crush this younger woman has had on him for years.

But even if I manage to miraculously find him, can we find true love together? And if we can, will my brother do everything he can to prevent us from being together…now and forever?

And what if my brother’s not the only one trying to keep us apart?

*Possessive Hunter is an insta-everything standalone instalove romance with an HEA, no cheating, and no cliffhanger.

  CHAPTER 1

  Hunter

I look through the Hensoldt ZF 6×42 PSG1 scope attached to the top of my Heckler & Koch PSG1 sniper rifle.

“I got you, you son of a…,” I mumble silently, my lips not even moving.

I’ve been stalking my target for three long days. Rain, wind, predators galore, scorching heat…nothing can stop me when it comes to tracking poachers in Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The only thing I love in this world is animals. People? Not even.

And when it comes to protecting animals I’m the best.

Speaking of best, this particular poacher is damn good…maybe the best I’ve ever tracked. He hasn’t even given me a single good look at his face this entire time.

I slowly lower my sniper rifle and pick up my tranquilizer gun.

As much as I hate poachers, killing them doesn’t solve the problem. Tranquilizing them, on the other hand, gives me the chance to tie them up, question them until they give up their buyers names, and then turn them and the inform
ation they provide over to the authorities.

If we can figure out, specifically, where the demand is coming from then we can cut off the head of the snake, not just the tail.

I bring the buttstock of my tranquilizer gun to my cheek and line up the shot.

It’s getting dark and I want to take down this poacher before nightfall before even bigger predators come out to play.

I line up my shot to the guy’s glute. A direct hit will have him on the ground and incapacitated in seconds.

I watch as the guy turns. I’m still blown away by the small stature of this poacher. This guy must be what? Five foot three? And the dude has wider hips than most, although that’s probably just pockets stuffed full of granola bars and other things needed to survive in the wild.

No sympathy for these people. None. Hell, poachers aren’t even human to me.

I grit my teeth and focus on my breathing, slowly pulling my trigger finger back, making sure not to squeeze the trigger too hard.

The gun fires and the dart hits the guy’s left ass cheek.

“Oh shit!” a yell goes out, as his hand reaches back around his body.

  But it’s too late.

He drops to a knee and I rise from my prone position, quickly moving in.

Just before the guy faceplants, I’ve got him by the back of the collar, rolling my wrist so I can finally get a good look at my unknowing adversary from the past three days.

“Time to get a good look at ya, ya…”

My body tenses, my muscles jerk as I stare down at the poachers face.

I feel my arm shaking, and it’s not from the weight of the torso I’m holding up.

It’s been years, a whole helluva lot of years at that, but I could never forget that face.

  Never.

Through the caked on camouflage, lightweight layers of clothing…underneath all the gear and the boonie hat a pair of bright blue eyes stare back up at me.

They’re glossing over fast, almost as fast as I feel myself harden underneath my tan cargo pants.

This isn’t a man at all.

  It’s her.

  CHAPTER 2

  Charlize

Everything feels like it’s in slow motion, my entire body numbed to the point that I couldn’t move a muscle if I wanted to.

I’m not sure if I’ve been bitten by a venomous snake or any host of other deadly animals in this part of the world, until I feel thick fingers take me by the collar just before I’m about to fall face first into the dirt.

Now I’m toast. A poacher has got me and my whole plan is about to come to a very abrupt end, and my life along with it.

My brother was right. I’m a fool for coming down here and thinking I could play with the big boys.

I may have just finished four years in the Marine Corps as one of the very few in the Military Occupational Specialty of 0311, which used to be infantryman, and now is listed as infantry person.

  Damn right.

But what’s not right is the face I see as I feel my torso being turned over, this guy’s fist is manipulating my entire upper body weight like I’m some sort of rag doll.

  It’s him.

The man I came here to find, found me first.

It’s my brother’s best friend, Hunter. He’s the only man I’ve ever had feelings for, so much so that I enlisted in the Marine Corps straight out of high school. The stories he would tell my brother about his time serving in the South African Special Forces Brigade with the “Reeces,” as they’re known, motivated me to take up a similar path in my own home country.

Hunter’s dual citizenship allowed him to move to South Africa after high school and enlist in the military there...and for me to miss out on seeing him anymore. Now he spent more time around wild animals than people.

I’ve always loved animals and nothing in this world enrages me more than violence against them. It’s why, after my four years in the Marine Corps were up, I decided to come down here…looking for him.

And did I ever find him, or he found me more accurately.

“Hunter,” I try and mouth but the words don’t come out.

“Charlize,” he says, his teeth gritting. “Damn, I’m sorry, woman. Just stay with me,” he says slapping my cheek, and it’s not exactly soft. My body may be full of some kind of sedative, but I can feel the sting on my skin…and I like it.

At six foot six and built like a brick shit house, I’m not sure if Hunter truly knows his own strength…and that excites me much more than it scares me.

I’m not interested in guys who wear pastels, get manicures, calf implants, and all the other host of things “straight” guys do these days. As a matter of fact I’m not even buying it. If you’re a guy who likes guys just embrace it, don’t be something you’re not…not that any guy I’ve ever met could ever measure up to the masculinity that Hunter has in his little finger alone.

“It will start to wear off in a couple minutes,” he says, or I’m pretty sure that’s what he’s saying. His mouth is moving, but I can’t hear anything.

I feel one more slap on my cheek and that’s it…lights out.

  CHAPTER 3

  Hunter

I shake my head back and forth, trying to wake myself up.

I’ve been just standing here for I don’t even know how long, her eyes glazed over and it’s clear she’s out.

And damn if I wasn’t “out” too, I was completely lost in those eyes of hers, even though there’s nothing behind them right now.

I get down on the ground and place her on her side, needing to get that dart out of her ass meat quick.

I grab the barrel of the dart with one hand and place my other firmly on her ass cheek.

My cock jerks in my pants and I involuntarily pause briefly.

Damn how I want to kneed her globe in-between my fingers right about now, but that’s wrong. Taking advantage of a woman in any way is always wrong, and that’s not how I roll, not that I’ve even seen a woman in weeks, but regardless, my moral compass always points to what is right.

I apply some pressure against her glute, which allows me to remove the dart swiftly. I take my other hand from her ass and quickly tear off my jacket, wadding it up into a makeshift pillow and placing it under her head.

I take her small hand in mine, wrapping her tiny fingers in my big mitt and shocks of electricity shoot through me, just before a bolt of lightning shoots through the sky.

I look up. It’s just about to get dark, but I can still make out the clouds that are rolling this way looking more than threatening.

  Shit!

I’ve got to get her safe, tucked away for the night.

“I’ll be right back,” I whisper into her ear. I run back to my gear and quickly bring it to the area where she’s at.

It looks like she was just about to set up camp from what it looks like, but there’s no way that battered down tent of hers is making it through a storm like the one rolling in.

I push her things out of the way and quickly get to work setting up my one-man tent.

Damn, I barely fit in the thing as it is. We’ll both have to sleep on our sides, which might release more of that sedative into her bloodstream.

I’m getting the tent up fast thinking how this is going to work.

She’s going to have to lay on top of me, or else I’m going to have to find some sort of cover. Only problem is it’s flat as a board out here.

There’s no overhanging rocks, no acacia trees, and I can’t climb into an abandoned lion’s den either, the thing will flood fast.

I get the tent set up and hear the crackle of thunder.

“Hunter?” I hear her mumble and run to her side.

“Just stay right here. I got you,” I promise, rushing back to what I’m doing.

Damn, I hate leaving her, even just a couple yards from her, but I have to. I have to get everything sorted before we get obliterated by this storm.

I feel the first few drops and quickly throw a tarp over everyt
hing. Guess I’m not sleeping with my rifle loaded tonight.

But the ache in my pants tells me I’ve got a whole other kind of rifle that’s locked and loaded and it’s sights are set on one thing and one thing only…her.

  CHAPTER 4

  Charlize

“I can get up,” I say, but it’s too late.

A few light drops of rain find my face as Hunter’s hands find the underside of my body.

He lifts me up like I weigh nothing before grabbing his jacket and then quickly sliding me into his tent and then getting in right after me.

Just as he zips the zipper I hear the light rain turn into an absolute downpour. Even if Hunter wouldn’t have shot me in the ass, I’d still be outside trying to assemble my junky tent right about now.

I’ll trade the tranquilizer shot for some time in his toasty tent with him…and is it ever toasty in here.
