When Summer Ends

I rolled my eyes and put my hand on his chest, pushing him away from me. “Seriously, you two are so alike, cocky and overconfident. Maybe I’m not interested in seeing either of you again after meeting the uncle,” I joked.
“You’ll see me again,” Will purred confidently in my ear. I jumped as his arm snaked around my waist, pulling me against his hard body as we continued to dance. “Thanks for that, Sam.” He held out a fist to his brother, who immediately did one of those cheesy punch things.
“Wow, you two are nerds,” I joked, making them both laugh.
The rest of the night passed without incident. We laughed and danced. I chatted easily to his family, other than his uncle they all seemed genuinely nice. Every time his mom looked at us flirting and dancing I would see a little satisfied smile creep across her face.
During the slow dances at the end of the night, Will didn’t let go of me once. One of his hands rested on the small of my back, the other on the nape of my neck. His eyes were locked on mine, making my body tingle and my stomach get butterflies. He was so close that there was barely an inch of space between us and it made my heart race uncontrollably. He didn’t kiss me though, he looked like he wanted to and I would imagine that my face looked exactly the same, because I certainly wanted him to kiss me.
At eleven thirty the music finished, and the lights came back on. We said our goodbyes to his family and he led me out to his car. We drove me home in comfortable silence, it was sweet. I’d had an extremely nice time, and I really hoped he did too. I was seriously hoping he would want to see me again.
When we pulled up outside my house, he walked me to my door. I noticed that my parents’ car wasn’t in the drive, signalling that they weren’t home yet. Based on prior experience, the monthly friends reunions lasted until around one or two in the morning so I had a while before they’d be home.
“You want to come in for a coffee or something?” I asked. Immediately I mentally slapped myself for adding the ‘or something’ on the end. Wow, that sounds like I’m offering him ‘something’, meaning sex! Damn it, Chloe!
“Yeah? Your parents won’t mind if I come in for coffee?” he asked, looking at me hopefully. I shook my head and unlocked the door heading in leaving the door open for him. I slipped my shoes off and headed for the kitchen, flicking on the kettle.
“This is a nice place,” he complimented, looking around and leaning on the kitchen island.
“Yeah, we’ve always lived here, I love this house,” I replied, grabbing some mugs and making coffee. I knew how he took it; I’d watched him make one after the meal tonight. He was leaning against the counter watching me, smiling. “Your family is cute.”
He laughed uncomfortably. “Yeah, most of them. My mom’s a pain in the butt sometimes. Sorry she kept looking at you like that all night. I’ve never taken a girl to meet the parents before, I guess she got a little excited,” he explained, shrugging.
“Really, you haven’t? Why not?” I asked as I poured the coffees out.
“I’ve never really had a serious girlfriend that I wanted to take to meet them.”
“Yeah? Are you a player?” I teased.
“What do you think?” he asked, smirking at me. He looked so sexy that my mouth started to water.
He is unquestionably a player; he’s too freaking hot not to sleep around. “Absolutely.” I grabbed the coffees and headed into the lounge, switching on the lights and putting the drinks down on the side table. “So, Will, this is what a carpet looks like,” I joked, gesturing to the clean floor.
He grinned. “Wow, I’ve not seen one of these since I moved out of my parents’ house,” he replied, faking shock. I burst out laughing and sat down on the sofa, looking at him expectantly.
He sat next to me. He was so close that I could barely sit still. “Thanks for asking me to come with you today; I had a really nice time,” I said honestly.
“Well, thank you for coming with me,” he whispered as he inched his head closer to mine. I held my breath, knowing he was going to kiss me again. My heart was thumping in my chest as the hair on the nape of my neck prickled with excitement.
His lips touched mine for the fourth time in two days, and I felt as if my whole body was on fire. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. He traced his tongue along my bottom lip so I opened my mouth eagerly. His tongue slipped in my mouth massaging mine. The kiss was beautiful, perfect even. It made my whole body tingle. He moved forward more, making me lay down on the sofa; he hovered above me, kissing me deeply. His hands trailed down my body as he pressed himself to me closer. He pulled out of the kiss just as I was getting a little dizzy, and started kissing down the side of my neck and across my bare shoulders. I ran my hands down his back, clutching him to me.
Wait, this is way too fast.
“Will, stop,” I mumbled breathlessly. I was so excited that I could barely force the words out.
He stopped immediately and pulled himself back up, putting his forehead to mine. “Sorry, I got carried away,” he apologised.
“That’s okay. I’m just not the type of girl who puts out on a first date,” I replied, blushing.
He laughed and reached behind his back, taking my hands and pinning them above my head. “And what makes you think that I’m the type of guy that puts out on a first date?” he asked, smirking at me.
I giggled, looking at him challengingly. “I can tell you are.”
Will laughed and shook his head. “You have me pegged all wrong, I’m not that type of guy at all,” he said innocently.
Yeah right, I don’t believe that for a second. “You’re not, huh? So if I asked you to carry me upstairs and screw me on my parents’ bed, you’d say no?” I challenged, raising one eyebrow teasingly.
He groaned and shook his head. “No, I wouldn’t say no,” he admitted, kissing me again. I tangled my hands in the back of his hair. He pulled away a minute later. “I should probably go before I start begging you for sex,” he said, smirking at me and making me blush again.
I burst out laughing and nodded in agreement. “Good idea.”
Immediately, he pushed himself up off of me. I stood up too; we hadn’t even touched the now cold coffees on the side. “So, can I take you out again?” he questioned, smiling his sexy little smile.
“Nah, that kiss just didn’t do it for me, sorry,” I teased.
His eyes went a little wide, his body seemed to tense up. “Oh right, yeah okay, that’s fine,” he muttered uncomfortably.
I burst out laughing and stepped closer to him, pressing my lips to his again. He moaned in the back of his throat as I pulled away. “The kiss did it for me, don’t worry. And I’d love to see you again,” I said, gripping his tie pulling on it gently.
His body visibly relaxed. “That was mean,” he scolded.
“Yeah, I am mean; you’ll find that out the more you get to know me. Now get out of my house,” I instructed, smirking at him.
“Yes, Ma’am.” He kissed me again and headed for the front door. I followed him out into the hallway and leant against the door frame. “I’ll pick you up at seven tomorrow.” He pecked me on the lips again before stepping out of the house.
“And what if I have plans tomorrow night?” I asked, laughing.
He waved his hand dismissively. “You’ll cancel them,” he called over his shoulder as he walked back to his car, laughing. The cocky overconfidence was back again now. I laughed quietly. He’s right; I would cancel them if I did have any plans. I closed the door and leant against it, touching my finger to my lips. They were still tingling from his kiss. I knew I would be dreaming about him tonight.
Chapter Three
“So where are you actually going?” Amy asked, lying on my bed while I looked through my closet.
“I have no idea, he didn’t say.” I looked back over my shoulder at her, shooting her a hopeless look. Amy and I had been trying to choose something for me to wear for the last hour; I was getting more and more stressed wit
h each passing minute.
“Well, first date to a wedding, second date maybe the opera?” she offered, laughing.
“You’re no help at all! Amy, seriously, if you’re going to be sitting there making stupid comments then what was the point of you coming over to help me?” I whined, throwing a pair of socks at her.
She caught them and threw them back at me. “Stop stressing, it’s just a guy,” she replied, rolling her eyes.
I sighed and closed my eyes. She’s right. I’m getting myself worked up other nothing. Sure, he seems nice, and damn he’s hot, but I actually know nothing about him at all. I took a deep breath and slumped onto the bed on my back. “You’re right, I’m just going to wear the black pants and red shirt,” I decided, fed up with thinking about it. I’d had hardly any sleep last night because I was so excited about the date, and every second of today had dragged because of it. I still had an hour and a half to wait until he’d be picking me up.
Amy nodded. “Good idea. Wear the shirt open at the bottom so he’ll catch a glimpse of the navel piercing,” she instructed, winking at me. “You know a guy can’t resist that.”
I nodded and headed into the shower. When I was out, Amy helped me do my hair, straightening it all. Once I was dressed, I looked at her and did a little twirl, waiting for her approval. “What do you think?” I asked, biting my lip.
“I’d do you,” she replied, narrowing her eyes at me playfully. “Wait, another button at the bottom.” She leant forward, unfastening another button so I literally only had two buttons done up now, just about covering my breasts.
I scoffed and batted her hands away. “Amy, seriously, I don’t want to give him the wrong impression. He’s probably already thinking I’m going to be putting out tonight, I don’t want to shove it in his face,” I protested, doing it back up.
She sighed. “Fine, but I don’t know why you’re so dead set against sleeping with him though. You need to get laid. It’ll loosen you up and put a smile on your face.” The doorbell rang before I could answer. I looked at her nervously, my heart leaping in my chest. She grinned and shoved my purse and black jacket into my hands. “Go. Have fun, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” she encouraged, winking at me.
“Is there anything you wouldn’t do?” I joked.
“No,” she replied, laughing and heading over to my window. “I’m going to watch from the window. He can’t be as hot as you say he is.” She shook her head and pulled the drapes aside, peering out, trying to sneak a peek at Will. I smiled, knowing she wouldn’t be able to see him at the moment; he’d be under the porch, waiting at the front door.
“All right. Lock the door on your way out okay?” I called as I skipped down the stairs to the front door. My parents were out again tonight which I was secretly glad about. I’d met his parents already, but I definitely wasn’t ready for the whole introducing him to my dad thing. My dad was embarrassingly protective when it came to guys, and he also wasn’t shy with making threats of castration for taking advantage or hurting me. That usually happened while I was standing there too, which was indubitably horrifying for all parties involved.
I pulled the door open and there he stood, looking impossibly hot in a pair of ripped jeans and a white fitted T-shirt with a checked blue shirt over the top. He wore it unbuttoned so you could see how the T-shirt clung to his toned body. I could barely breathe; I was so excited that I shifted from one foot to the other, not knowing what to say.
“Wow you look incredible,” he complimented, looking me over slowly. “I got you these.” He held out a bunch of assorted multi-coloured flowers.
Flowers? This is already the best date ever. “Thanks, Will, that’s incredibly sweet, you shouldn’t have.” I took them from him, smelling them and smiling gratefully.
“I didn’t know what your favourite flower or colour was so I went for one of each,” he admitted, laughing.
Aww, could he get any better? “Thank you. Let me just put them in some water and then I’ll be ready.” I opened the door wider, motioning for him to come in. I headed to the kitchen and grabbed a vase, putting them in and filling with water. I’d arrange them properly when I got home. Will was leaning against the counter, watching me. “So where are we going anyway?”
“Well, I thought we could go for dinner, and then maybe, if you’re up for it, we could go and do my favourite thing in the world,” he replied, smirking at me.
I gasped, looking at him shocked that he would be that blunt. “I’m not having sex with you after dinner!”
He grinned and came closer to me, putting his hands on the counter either side of my body, leaning in and pressing his body against mine. My breath caught in my throat as he inched his head closer to mine. I could smell his aftershave. The spicy, masculine scent filled my lungs and made me lean in unconsciously. My whole body was trembling with excitement, waiting for him to kiss me. I closed my eyes when his mouth was barely an inch from mine. His minty breath blew across my lips. Time seemed to stand still as I waited and waited for his lips to connect with mine.
Finally, his lips brushed against mine, so softly that I could barely feel it. “You really have a dirty mind, Chloe, now why would you instantly think about sex?” he whispered, moving away quickly and flicking my nose.
My eyes snapped open as he stepped back laughing wickedly. I blushed like crazy and slapped his chest. “That was teasing.” I frowned and pouted.
He grinned, shrugging. “Sorry I couldn’t resist. Honestly though, you’re such a pervert, your mind snapped straight to that. I bet you even dreamt about me last night, didn’t you?” he inquired.
Actually, yes I did but I’m not admitting that to you, buster! I made a scoffing noise and shook my head. “Will, do you want to go out tonight or not? At the moment I’m considering changing my mind.” I raised one eyebrow challengingly, hoping that would change the subject before he figured out that he had hit the nail on the head with his line of questioning.
“Way to avoid the question, Chloe,” he teased. “And yes, I want to go out with you tonight. Now that I know what a pervert you are I’m eager for the end of the night,” he added, winking at me.
I gasped and giggled. “I’ll tell you right now I’m not the type of girl who puts out on a second date.”
“What a coincidence, I’m not that type of girl either.” He grinned, his eyes sparkling with humour. I laughed and rolled my eyes. “Anyway, come on, pervert, before they give our table away,” he suggested, holding out a hand for me to take.
I waved it off and smirked at him. “You’ll need to get back in my good books before any form of physical contact happens again. Punishment for teasing me,” I rejected, walking to the door and laughing at his pout.
He followed behind and waited while I locked the door. We walked to his car in silence. I stole a glance at him only to see he was already looking at me. When our eyes met, he smiled his beautiful smile making my heart speed up. As we approached the car he opened the door for me. “My lady,” he said in a fake British accent, doing a little bow.
I smiled and laughed as I climbed in. While he walked around to the driver’s side, I waved to Amy who was watching from my bedroom window. She didn’t wave back so I assumed she couldn’t see very well into the dark night.
Will climbed in the other side and buckled his seatbelt. “Do you like Mexican food? If not then we can go somewhere else,” he suggested, starting the car, looking at me worriedly.
“Seriously? I love Mexican food,” I exclaimed. I was even more excited now. Mexican was my all-time favourite.
We drove to the restaurant he chose. It was an extremely cute little rustic place. There was only one other couple in there. “This is my favourite restaurant ever,” he told me as we looked over the menus.
“Yeah? So what’s good here?” I asked, scanning the menu. My mouth was already watering at the thought of enchiladas and tortilla chips with sour cream dip.
“Everything’s good so order whatever you
want,” he replied, grinning and putting his menu down barely even glancing at it.
“What are you having?” I asked a couple of minutes later, still undecided.
“Cheese and tomato quesadillas for starters, then chicken fajitas,” he answered, grinning happily.
Finally, the waiter came over to take our order. He was fairly young and was flirting shamelessly with me the whole time he stood there. At one point Will had to clear his throat dramatically to divert the waiter’s attention from my chest. The guy eventually scurried off. I laughed wickedly.
“Was that really necessary?” Will asked, grinning.
“Was what necessary?” I asked, pretending to be confused.
He sighed and shook his head. “I can see you’re a handful. I’ve got my work cut out for me to bag you, haven’t I?” he stated, leaning back in his chair, narrowing his eyes at me.
“Bag me? Is this some kind of kinky term I’ve not heard of?” I asked, confused.
He laughed and shook his head. “No, pervert, it means you’re going to make it hard for me to win you over and make you fall for me,” he explained, smirking at me.
I smiled, taking a sip of my coke. “Well if something’s worth having, it’s worth working for.”
“I like a challenge. Once I see something I want, I don’t quit until I have it,” he warned.
I leant forward, looking at him curiously. “You’re not a hit it and quit it kind of guy then, like I thought?”
“You want me to answer that honestly?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. I nodded. I genuinely wanted to know if he was player or not, because sometimes I thought he definitely was, and other times he seemed really sweet and genuine. “I’ve never had a serious girlfriend, and yeah I’ve played the field quite a bit. I just never met anyone I wanted to be exclusive with before.” He seemed to be watching my reaction as he spoke.
I was a little shocked at his answer. I never expected him to admit that to me. He surely must know he’d just made it harder for himself now. “And with that little speech you’ve just made it harder for yourself to bag me, as you called it,” I said confidently. All thoughts of putting out were entirely gone from my mind now. I would certainly make him work for it.
