Hanne knew she would have some explaining to do at work and more than a few white lies to invent for Glockner and Kruger. A future of secrets and lies... Life was made up of these things and she knew she could do it and not regret her promise to Felix. Kruger and Glockner would never understand or agree about why she wanted to give a murderer a second chance. Marine Boy was real: he’d taken human form as Felix and risked his life for Audrey, and unlawful subterfuge at work was a price Hanne was more than willing to pay.

Felix hurried to the train station, feeling as if he was walking on air after years of walking through treacle, waiting for his crimes to be found out. He returned home to Motzen, to the family who loved and accepted him, intending to make the most of his luck and second chance.
Hanne never doubted her integrity regarding Felix and was happy with the choice she had made. Fate had reached out and extended its hand, and she kept Felix’s photo up on her wall as a reminder of life’s fateful coincidences and its strange twists and turns.
