“Well…I’m flattered, but I hardly think that is true. I might think that because it’s good to think you’re the best. Besides, how did he even find out about me, I wonder.” I closed my eyes and allowed myself to enjoy the stroking of his hand against my flesh.
He stopped and looked sheepish. “That would have been my fault.”
“Your fault?”
“Mine,” he began. “I knew of your reputation while you were at the academy.”
“How? I mean we weren’t in school together or anything.”
“No…but someone had to come up with all those computer simulations that you seemed to breeze through. You didn’t think they came from thin air, did you?”
I raised my eyebrows. “That was you?”
“That was me…and every once in a while…I would get Devlin to help me come up with something new and innovative. We were in special ops together back then and then he just kinda went haywire and disappeared.” Aidan sighed. “I never really understood why.”
“Wow,” was all I could say. I cleared my throat. “That means you’re the second most brilliant mechanic and space engineer around.”
“Like you said…hardly…but I do know my way around a ship.”
“And the second thing?” I ran my hands lightly up his thighs, turning myself to fully face him.
“Devlin always did have a soft spot for beautiful women. And you are one beautiful woman, Fallon Montgomery.”
I blushed to my roots. I didn’t know what to say. I had always thought myself a nerd and while I knew I was all right to look at, I didn’t feel that I was anything spectacular. “I don’t know what to say.”
“I’m just stating a fact,” Aidan said and moved closer to me. Putting his hands around my neck, he forced my face up. “You have exquisite eyes and a wonderful mouth.” He moved to cover my lips with his, and I melted into him.
’Was there anything else?” I whispered.
“Tons…but most can wait till later.” He began to nuzzle my neck.
“I do need to know a few more things, though.”
He pulled back and looked into my face. “What’s that?”
“How did he control me?”
Aidan shook his head. “We’re not sure. We think it has something to do with pheromones, but we just don’t know. We’ll need to do more tests on you and what’s left of him to see if we can figure that out.”
“Could it be a problem?”
“Yes…if he could control you, and you are a strong person, it means that they know how to control others.”
“That makes sense.”
“Next item on your list,” he moved closer and unzipped my uniform.
“About the baby?”
He let out a forced breath. “Yes…the baby.”
“You want to tell me what happened there?”
Aidan brushed the hair from my face. ’We didn’t know if you were the real deal or not. We had to be sure.”
“So…you made me pregnant?” I asked roughly.
“No…we just reversed the procedure so that it could happen if you were human.” He moved his hand inside my uniform to cup my breast when realization dawned on his face. “I made you pregnant.”
“As if that makes it okay. There are reasons that we can’t get pregnant in space,” I reminded him.
He pulled back slightly. “Fallon, this is your choice and your body. You don’t have to have this baby if you don’t want to.”
I hadn’t expected that…I had just supposed that it wouldn’t be my choice…but now that it was here, I realized I wasn’t as adverse as I thought I would be. “I—I think I rather like it. Does that bother you?”
“Me?” he questioned, “I’m not the one who will have to deal with their body changing…just be very sure this is what you want.”
“Why?”
“Because if you have my child, I will never let you go.” He forced me to look at him. “You understand that, don’t you?”
“Does that mean…does that mean you love me?” I whispered, half afraid of the answer.
“Love you? I’m crazy about you, and I plan to show you every day you’re with me.” He bent his head, and I allowed him to worship my body with his, knowing that this was exactly where I was meant to be even though my past was something that I couldn’t completely remember.
This I could remember, this I would never forget.
And my future was an open door that I just had to step through with Aidan, the man I loved. The man that was the father of the child I thought I could never have…the man that I would be with always and forever.
