“All right, let’s see what’s going on, shall we?” He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose before scrunching his face and studying the screen. “Well, do you see this?” He pointed to a little blot on the screen that if I tilted my head and squinted my eyes, I could see. When the doctor looked over at Kane and me, he laughed. "Your heads are both tilted, it's quite funny."
“What about the little blob? Is it deadly? Does surgery need to happen?” Kane bombarded him question after question.
"Woah, Woah, Woah. Pump your brakes." The doctor pushed his hands down signaling him to push the brake pedal.
Doctors are so weird…
“No surgery needs to be done. Let’s see if I can find it…” He scrunched his face again, turning up the volume on the machine until a whooshing sound filled the air. It made Kane stand quickly, looking around for the source.
“What is that? What’s wrong?”
The doctor smiled. "That’s your healthy baby's heartbeat. It's faint. It seems this little one is only around six weeks or so.”
Kane collapsed into the plastic chair, running his hands over his face. I couldn’t believe it. There was no way it was that easy.
“What?” I cried. I covered my mouth with my hand as I saw my little blob on the screen. It was the most perfect blob I had ever seen.
“I thought…” Kane cleared his throat. “I thought getting pregnant was going to be near impossible?”
“Sometimes it is. Other times, it doesn’t matter. Your swimmers, if determined, will find their way.” The machine made a printing noise, and the doctor wiped the gel off my stomach, throwing the towel in the trash can.
“I’ll give you guys a moment alone. Congratulations.” He smiled before exiting the room.
Kane sat next to me on the table as we stared at our blob.
“Can you believe it?” I whispered.
"I can. I can because it's us. Our love created this." He swiped his thumb across the picture like he was trying to feel it, to hold it, even though we’d have another eight months to wait.
I turned to him, cupping his jaws with my hands. “You.” My eyes traced his entire face to memory. His blue eyes bore into my hazel ones, putting his forehead against mine.
“Us, Crazy. Us.”
