Even though my powers were fighting to stitch me back together and her powers were flowing in me helping, it was still just too much. All I wanted to do was sleep but I knew death was a real possibility. I closed my eyes and sensed her power, which I knew was from earth. The healing was an extension of her earth affinity. I could see now why she didn't need to be with earth to use it. Earth was the most overwhelming element surrounding everything completely, even more than air. I could see the makeups of our body were of earth as well. I realized our affinities were very much a part of us. I pulled on the string of earth around me and fed it into her to boost her power. As weak as I was it was a nothing short of a miracle that I was able to do that much before finally sinking into unconsciousness.
Chapter 44
“Trinity, can you hear me? I need you to wake up now. We need you to drink.”
I barely understood the words and then cold water was sliding in my mouth and I managed to swallow. With the first sip my throat was begging for more and I fought to open my eyes. Matt was holding my head and when I opened my eyes he took it as a sign and held me while I finish off the glass. Then ever so gently lowered me back to the bed. I took stock of myself. Every bit of me hurt but I could tell most of my injuries were completely healed and the rest would be very soon.
I looked at the worried faces of Matt, Aurelia, Serenity, and even Jason, and tried to speak. “Ho-, how, lon-”
Serenity came to sit by me grasping my hand too tight and had unshed tears in her eyes.
“It’s been about 30 hours since you returned and passed out. I was able to take care of the worst of it and now we just wait for your body to do the rest. I think you’ll be good as new in another day.”
She brushed my hair back from my face and I noticed how damp my entire body felt. I couldn't even care how sticky and gross I was.
“Ri?” I asked.
Serenity gave my hand a squeeze and moved that Aurelia replaced her spot by my side.
“Trinity, you need to believe me that Ri is ok. He’s just not himself right now. When you’re feeling better we will discuss it.”
Adrenaline gave me the strength I needed to lift to a sitting position.
“Now, tell me now.” I demanded much stronger than before.
Matt spoke first, he knew me, knew I needed to know.
“It's called the rage. It's a natural product of being a hellhound. The first transformation is always an accident forced by intense anger. It's like a right of passage for hellhounds. After the first time he will be able to change anytime he wants, but first we have to find him and remind him of his humanity. We have to convince him to change back. Which we will, it's just going to take some time.”
I closed my eyes and tried to find my link to Ri and out of everything I'd been through being met with a blank space was by far the scariest and most painful of it all.
I looked to Aurelia. “How, do I get him back?”
She gave me a confident smile.
“First you heal, and then we hunt. Now, sleep my child.”
I thought I saw her eyes swirl with colors and light but before I could think on it the cobwebs were pulling me back into sleep. I tried to fight it but I realized I was seeing something. At first it just looked like blurs and then I was able to make out trees and grass and dirt and it was as if I were running through a forest at supernaturally fast speeds. I realized I was looking through the eyes of an animal. An animal who had taken over my man, my bond mate, and hellhound or not I would fight to the death to get him back. Even broken and weak my power was still reaching to him in a dream walk. I would find him where I first found him, in my dreams.
