“It’s okay.” I whispered my words while still laser focused on the speck of dirt on the ceiling.

Then, before I had a chance to think about what was going to happen, Malik moved his tongue down over me. My body jerked up and I cried out.

“Are you okay?” There was no way to talk. I managed to nod somehow. “I’ll take that as a cue to continue.”

“Yes,” I yelled. He softly chuckled and bent his head. I didn’t think I had ever felt the way he managed to make me feel. Then his tongue moved over my clitoris, and for the first time in a very long time, something inside my body came alive. When he bit down tenderly, everything in me exploded and I jolted up to a seated position. “Wait,” I said. I didn’t mean to sound so surprised. He stopped and lifted his head up. “Is that…did I finally—”

He kissed the insides of my legs. Then slowly he peppered light kisses up my abdomen and over each breast. He lifted up to come face to face with me. “If by finally you mean, an orgasm? Then, yes.” He leaned in and kissed me. “I cannot describe to you how beautiful you sounded. I will never get it out of my mind.”

I placed my palms on either side of his face. “Really, because I don’t think I will ever get that feeling out of my mind.” He dropped his head to my forehead. “What did you do to me?”

“Exactly what you asked me to do.”

I looked down at his hands resting on my thighs. “My heart won’t slow down.” I grabbed his hand and brought it to my chest.

He grabbed my hand and placed it over his heart. “Jenny, you’re so special. Let me show you more. You deserve it all.”

“Wait.” I held my hand up. “Can you give me a moment?” Then I ran into the bathroom and closed the door. I plastered my back up against the wood surface and looked down. I was nude. Just slightly freaking out. Oh, and the most amazing man was waiting for me just a few feet away.

I walked over to the sink and rested my hands on the marble top. It took me a moment to look at myself in the mirror. When I finally gave in, the face looking back surprised me. There was a smile threatening to surface. I touched my fingers to my lips. There was a glow or maybe that was just a glare from the light overhead.

“Jenny,” Malik whispered. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” I said a little too quickly. I shook my head and realized I had to walk back out there without one drop of clothing on. This was not going to be easy. I glanced around and noticed a folded towel on a shelf by the sink. Without thinking I grabbed the fabric and wrapped it around my body.

“Jenny, if I went too fast, I’m sorry,” Malik said.

I finally opened the door. “You don’t have to apologize.” I stood in the doorway rooted to the spot.

  “What’s that?” He chuckled.

  “What’s what?”

  “You’re wearing a towel.”

  “Yeah, and you’re wearing jeans.”

He turned his head to the side. “I can fix that problem.” Then without another word he unbuttoned, unzipped, and dropped his jeans to the floor. “Better?”

I wasn’t ready for that at all. “Um.” I tightened my fists around the edges of the towel. “Uh.”

He stepped closer and reached for one side of the fabric and pulled lightly until it dropped to the floor. “Now it’s fair.”

“Malik.” I had the urge to run in the opposite direction, but a memory of Ray started to present itself. To avoid the invasion, I surprised myself by running directly into his arms. I didn’t know what came over me, but I laughed. Then I laughed some more. I buried my head into the crook of his neck and wrapped my body tightly around him.

  “So, I guess we’re okay.”

His words made me laugh more. “Malik, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” I lifted my head up to face him. “This is not who I am. I would never walk around in the nude or jump into a man’s arms.”

“Or maybe it is you,” he said as he guided us over to the bed. “But you never gave it a chance.”

That was true. Plus, Ray didn’t know how to make me feel comfortable. He never made me a priority. It was all about his needs and then he would move on to the next thing on his list.

I looked down and quickly back up. Something about this moment made me feel excited. “Is this wrong?”

  “What do you mean?”

“Shouldn’t I feel fear right now?” I laced my fingers together behind Malik’s neck. “My husband abused me just a few short weeks ago.”

  “What do you feel instead?”

  “Happy. Excited. Curious.”

He lifted his hand and started to trace a finger down the center of my chest and around each nipple. “Curious. What are you curious about?”

I dropped my head back and groaned. “Us.”

He leaned forward and placed his mouth over one nipple, causing goosebumps to form all over my body. “Should we find out?”

I was finding it difficult to think. “Malik.” He continued to run his tongue around each nipple. I giggled and pushed his shoulders back. “I need to tell you something before we take this any further.”

He lifted his head. “Should I be worried?”

“No,” I said and placed my hand on the side of his face. “I just want to be fully transparent with you.”

“Okay.” I could hear the concern in his voice.

“I—” It was not easy to say the words. “Um, I can’t have children because I had my tubes tied.” I lifted my hand, signaling for him to wait. “What I mean is, you don’t have to worry. I mean, we should still be protected because we don’t know each other. It’s just that, I felt you should know the other thing.”

  “Did Ray decide this?”

“Yeah.” I dropped my head and fought back the tears. “It was years ago. It’s okay.”

He lifted my chin up. “No, it’s not okay. He took that away from you.”

“He did, but I knew I would always have the ability to adopt.”

“I’ve noticed something about you in the last twenty-four hours.”

  “Yeah, what’s that?”

“You have this way of finding the positive in something.”

  “Oh, I do?”

“Yeah,” he said and wrapped his arms around my waist. “I find it rather sexy.”

“You do, eh?” I combed my fingers through his hair and brought his head closer to me. “How sexy?”

“Let me show you.” He stood up and turned our bodies, so my back was facing the mattress. I let out a little scream and burst out laughing. “God, I love that sound.” He opened his arms and we both let go. My body fell back and bounced on the bed twice. Once I felt my back settled into the duvet, I spread my arms out in the shape of a T and waited for Malik to join me. “I like this side of you.”

“I need to get used to it.”

  “We’ll do that together.”

“You’re not my rebound guy, Malik.”

  “How do you know that?”

  “I just know.”

He lay down beside me and moved his hand down the length of my body. “Well, if you’re sure, because I’m a sure thing.”

“You are, huh?” I wrapped my legs around his waist. His erection twitched, causing my mood to switch quickly. “Malik.”

  “Yeah, baby?”

“I think I’m ready.” I lifted my hips slightly and sucked in a breath. “No, I am ready.” We didn’t have to separate our bodies. I reached down in between us and took control. The moment he touched my core, I felt excited. He started to slowly move. He was not fully inside me yet, so I gently pushed and felt him slide all the way in. “Stop,” I whispered.

  “Did I hurt you?”

“No, the very opposite. I want to savor this feeling for a moment longer.” It had been a long time since I had the opportunity to actually feel during sex. Malik was significantly bigger than Ray, so the sensations were stronger. I was starting to crave more.

Finally, I moved and he sighed. “I plan to wear your ass out.”

  “O
h, you do, huh?” He spun my body in a circle. I was now looming above him. Without thinking, I took control for the second time. This was something I had never done before. He was moving in and out slowly. Then my pace started to increase. Malik was moaning louder. My body was demanding more. I couldn’t stop. I needed more. Then something washed over me and I felt the most amazing sensation. I screamed his name, and then my body went limp and I fell forward over his chest.

“Don’t stop yet.” He helped move my hips back and forth to keep the pace fast. I lifted up and resumed the steady rhythm. Less than a minute later, Malik yelled out and dropped his hands to the bed. “Holy fuck,” he said under his breath with his eyes closed.

  “A good holy fuck, right?”

  “A fucking great holy fuck.”

“Wow, that’s seriously good.” I laughed and leaned forward to rest my arms on his chest. “Are you sure you have enough juice to go again tonight?”

He lifted one hand up. “Give me five minutes and I’m ready.”

He was still deep inside me. I was afraid to move. I wanted him there forever. The word forever popped into my brain unexpectedly. It was too soon to think of that word when it came to Malik and me. Yet, he had managed to save me, protect me, and show me what happiness really meant.

I leaned up and kissed him. “Thank you.”

He rubbed his hands up and down my back. “I should be thanking you.”

I finally lifted up and slid off his body. “Damn. Would you hold it against me if I became addicted to having sex with you?”

He actually rolled his eyes. “Oh yes, so pissed.” There was a pillow on the floor. I reached down and threw it in his direction. “Hey.” He lifted his legs up to shield his body from the blow. Without a warning, he leapt up and pulled my body back down on the bed.

“Wait.” I burst out laughing. “Already?”

“Well, I figure we need to really make this a true addiction.”

I thought about my time with Ray. It was nothing like what I just felt in every part of my body. Even before Ray became angry, sex was nothing like my experience with Malik. I had no idea it could be this amazing.

I wrapped my arms around his neck. “Show me what you got, fighter.”

“Looks like we found a new pastime.” Malik wrapped his arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder.

“That’s true. It will help make the time go by faster.” I poured coffee into two mugs.

It was eleven in the morning, and we were both just getting up and around. At around five, I threw in the towel and begged for him to let me sleep. We put the word addiction to the test last night. I made a few new discoveries about myself; I loved sex and I really loved having sex with Malik.

It was nice to have a new pastime. The real problem was the house. The four walls were becoming too much for me. I needed a scenery change and soon.

“Can I ask you a question?” Malik took a sip of his coffee and made his way over to the kitchen table. “You can tell me to shove off at any time.”

“Sure,” I said and blew on the coffee as I carefully sat down next to him. I threw my feet up onto his lap. “There’s no need to tell you to shove off, though.”

“So you say, but you haven’t heard my question yet.”

  “Now you have me curious.”

“Have you thought about having a tubal reversal? I can’t remember what the procedure is exactly called.”

  “A what the what?”

“The doctor didn’t let you know you could reverse the procedure?”

I sat there lost for words. My mind wandered back to when I had the outpatient surgery to get my tubes tied. I knew the doctor never once told me about a reversal, because Ray was present through every step of the process. Actually, between the doctor and Ray, they made it sound permanent. There was no reason not to believe them, so I learned to accept the news.

It was weird; there was only one time in my marriage with Ray where I thought about having kids. Since I was about ten, I had a picture-perfect idea of my life and the family I would have. Then one day Ray told me I had to get my tubes tied. He gave me some sob story about his family and all the health issues the baby we would conceive would be subject to as he or she aged. The man was convincing. I’ll give him that. I caved finally and gave up on my dreams just to make him happy.

Suddenly, I felt the onset of anger rise up into my chest. I set my coffee mug down and stood up. Words had escaped me at the moment. I walked into the bedroom we shared last night and rifled through my clothes in the top dresser drawer.

“Jenny.” I didn’t respond. “Should I get my gym clothes on?”

I pulled out a pair of leggings and a sports bra. “Yes.” Then I walked into the bathroom to change.

  “Should I be worried?”

I turned on my heel. “Malik, Ray took that piece of me away all those years ago. Do you know how long it took me to accept the reality of the situation?” I didn’t let him answer. “Never, because I felt cheated out of the opportunity to give life. I’ve wanted to have kids since I was a child.”

“Let’s look at what the surgery involves to have it reversed,” he said and stepped up beside me.

“That’s not it.” I stepped away needing the space. “I feel stupid.”

“What?” He wrapped his hand around my bicep. “No, you shouldn’t feel that way.”

“Ray told me the type of surgery I had was permanent.” I grabbed my brush and started pushing it through my snarled hair. “Wait, I want to call that doctor.” I threw the brush down and stormed out of the bathroom.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?”

“Why wouldn’t it be?” I grabbed my phone and scrolled through doctors in the area that performed the specific procedure. My eyes registered on the man’s name as I scrolled past. I went back to his name and clicked on the information. “I want to know what’s in my chart. It’s my personal information.”

  “Let me call.”

“Why?” I pulled the phone away from him.

“Because I don’t want your voice traced.”

I dropped the phone to the counter. “Fuck. I really hate this.”

“I know.” He placed his hands on my biceps. “I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“No, you didn’t do anything wrong.”

“I have an idea.” I watched as Malik walked over to retrieve his phone from the kitchen table. “Journey will get what you want.”

“You don’t think I’m being silly?”

“About wanting to see your file? Of course not.”

“I want you to know I’m not doing all this because you and I are together.” I combed my fingers through my hair. “Ray did something unforgivable. Maybe I should’ve known better back then. I did let myself become easily persuaded. I loved him and my main goal was to make him happy.”

“And you,” Malik said and reached for my hand.

“Me? My happiness never mattered.” I shrugged my shoulders at the ridiculous thought. I knew now that my happiness should’ve been priority. I had it all wrong. My life became ass-backwards. “But it should’ve mattered.”

He pulled my body closer to his. “Always, because if you’re not happy nothing else matters.”

I dropped my head to his chest. “We need to find him.”

  “They will.”

“I can’t help to wonder what else he lied to me about in our marriage.”

“What matters now is you’re fixing all that.”

“The Spartacus open fight is in two weeks.”

“That was a big subject change. What’re you saying?”

I lifted my head up. “Let me fight and maybe he’ll surface.”

Malik closed his eyes and shook his head. “Why am I saying yes?”

“You are?” I stepped away and jumped up and down. “Holy shit, you are.”

“Let’s meet with Journey and Lincoln first. There’s a lot to discuss before I let you out in plai
n sight.”

“But you said yes, that’s all I can hear right now.”

“Why did I agree to spar with you?” Charlie mumbled from under my arm.

“Because you’re awesome.” I pulled my leg tighter around her neck.

“That’s it, Jenny.” Malik squatted down beside me. “Don’t give up. Finish her off.”

“I’m right here,” Charlie ground out. “Might I remind you, I’m also your friend.”

I finally released my leg and Charlie rolled off my body. “Did you make it easy for me to put you in a submission hold?” I sat up and crossed my legs in front of me. “My opponent won’t be forgiving at the open fight.”

Charlie sat up in front of me. “No, you’re right, they’re going to be determined to get a spot with Spartacus.”

I let my back fall against the mat. “What was I thinking?” I threw my arm over my eyes and groaned loudly. “Those fighters are going to be out for blood.”

“Not necessarily.” Charlie grabbed my hand and pulled me back up to a seated position. “The fighters that come to the open fights are more inexperienced.”

“Danny Green hates open fight night.” Malik handed me a water bottle. “Yet, it’s the most popular night all year.”

“You sure you’re ready for this life?” Charlie reached for my water bottle and took a drink.

“More than ready.” I snatched my bottle back. “Get your own.”

Malik was standing on the other side of the room. “Charlie. Think fast.” He threw a bottle her way.

“I just need to prove to Danny Green I have what it takes.”

“And remember, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” Charlie winked and hopped up. “You’ll be fine.”

I was watching Malik as he animatedly talked to someone on the phone. It was more than likely Journey or Lincoln. They both stayed in contact with Malik on a daily basis. Ghost had gone off the grid, which concerned me. I had been trying to text Anora for over a week with no response. Malik told me not to worry, which only made me more concerned.
