Sunday morning after I was up and dressed for the day the phone started ringing. Most calls were, “Who is Alice?” How was I to answer that? I reverted to, “No comment.” Though I did weaken for one nasty tabloid and told them she was a Hungarian Princess incognito.

It wasn’t long before Susan showed up. She started with, “What happened yesterday?”

I explained how I felt suckered by the way the sock hop went down. She got upset when she found out that I had never been asked to sign a contract, not even a simple release. She got on the phone to John Baxter and let him know he had to crucify some people. They were stealing from him!

I told her about the spontaneous beach party. She thought that was great. After thinking for a while, she got together with Mum and Mary. From Mary’s giggles I could see a scoop coming on.

I remembered the bag I had been given at the hop. I laughed as I had the thought and said it out loud.

  “Yesterday was a hop-skip and a jump.”

The women loved it, would be the lead for Mary’s story out the day which started bad and ended up great.

I retrieved the bag from my car trunk. It turned out to have the typical Hollywood gift bag stuff, like aftershave and designer shirts.

There were two interesting items. One was a jeweler’s box containing a ring. It was my class ring. It was also the largest ring I had ever seen. Gaudy didn’t even begin to describe it. It had gems which were probably real and was solid gold. There was no way I would ever wear it, or give it to someone I liked.

The other item was a school sweater. It was white with my name in red lettering. For the school it had WBHS, which I thought meant Warner Brothers High School. There were a multitude of pins on it.

A regular sweater might have pins for each sport. Mine had a tripod camera for acting, microphone for singing, a dancer, a swordsman, a boxer, a horseman, an archer, and several others I couldn’t figure out.

I decided if I needed to wear a high school sweater I would wear my BHS one with a letter for golf.

Thinking of golf made my decision for the day. I called Calabasas and got a tee time. I think it was really short notice, and if I didn’t hold the club record I wouldn’t have got on. When I arrived I found out John Jacobs was to be my caddy. He had been my first caddy there and I was glad to see him.

I was asked if I wanted to join a foursome or go alone. I chose to go alone. That way I could try some difficult shots and even take several on a hole. I wasn’t playing for score I was trying to improve my game and decompress from a wild week.
