Prologue
"How much do you love me?"
Our nude bodies are pressed together, the sound of our heavy breathing is the only audible sound in the room as we lay in the own comfort of his mattress. Underneath the thin dull sheet, his hand drew circles onto my back, long fingers softly caressing my skin as my eyes flutter with each movement.
"More than you'll ever know."
He always told me he loved me, but I knew better than to believe that. He was in love with my body, and the fact that he could take advantage of me without getting a consequence.
He was supposed to help me get better. He wasn't to mistreat me and use me for intimate purposes.
He's a sinner.
However, I am one too simply because I let him do this to me.
Seventeen year old Chloe Davies attends therapy sessions where she meets Robert styles, the terrible man who sins upon her innocent soul.
Chapter 1
"Do you ever feel at discomfort when around men?"
I sigh with frustration at the woman with the clipboard who keeps throwing impeccable and irritable questions at me. She and no one else will not understand that I'm completely fine. They all think I'm immune to every little thing I frown at. I'm fine, all because I don't have a smile plastered on my face like every other human being, I'm supposedly still strung up about past tense problems. I'm fine.
"No."
"Do you ever isolate yourself away from others because of what happened?"
"Look, I'm fine. I'm not in any way depressed or ill or whatever it is you think I am. I'm perfectly fine and I don't need help." I huff, crossing my arms as I slump down on the cold metal chair.
Laura sweeps her blonde hair out her face, sighing as she sets her clipboard down and drags her chair away from the opposite side of the desk. She impatiently taps her red painted acrylic nails against the wooden table, before sighing once more.
"Chloe, I'm just trying to help you. Look, I know it's not fun being in here with me throwing questions at you left and right, but You're mother said you haven't been the same since-"
"She's not my mother." I sharply cut her off.
Abbie was not my mother, she was my aunt. Abbie was a middle aged woman who fostered me into her home a few years ago when I needed a place to stay. Her boyfriend Josh just moved in last week and she reported to my social worker that I've been acting strange since. Abbie thought I was going to have my problems again and decided to bring me to therapy again.
I've already been through this. They'll ask me questions and I’ll tell them I'm fine. They won’t believe me and until I show some kind of improvement, I will have to spend every Tuesday and Thursday after school being in a unfamiliar room with an adult who pokes around with my life.
"You're right. Abbie is not your mother, however. She's your legal guardian and she said you haven't been yourself lately. Now your records say that-"
"I know what they say, I don't need to hear it aloud." I mumble and I see Laura slightly roll her eyes as she scoots off of her chair.
"It's very rude to interrupt someone, Chloe."
"It's very stupid for me to be here when I don't have problems, Laura." I retaliate.
"Are you alright with Having someone else talk to you for today? I want to see how you interact with him." Laura skeptically eyes me, looking for any signs of discomfort.
"Bring 'em in." I shrug.
Laura leaves the room, I know she's watching me through the one sided mirror pane probably talking to social services or worse, Abbie.
The door swings open and in walks Laura, accompanied by a man. His hair is tussled around and chest tattoos are peaking out of the tips of his black T-shirt. His lanky legs are covered by jeans and worn out boots cover his feet.
Our eyes lock and he offers me a smile. I stare at him uninterested as I look down at my paint chipped nails.
"Chloe, This is Robert Anderson. He'll be accompanying us today. If this session goes well, He'll be assisting you every Tuesday and Thursday. If that's too uncomfortable for you, I'll also attend the sessions-"
"I'm seventeen, Laura, I don't need your assistance or anyone's assistance for the matter." I blow out an angry huff.
Laura thought she needed to be extra careful around me as if I were going to break at one little slip up. she thought I was an oversensitive, naive girl who 'needed help'. I do not need help, I'm fine.
They ignore my ignorance and sit down opposite of me at the table. Laura clicks her pen multiple times, staring at her note filled clip board.
"Hi, Chloe. I'm Robert." He extends his arm across the table, awaiting for me to shake his hand. I stare at it with crossed arms and he sheepishly retrieves.
"Alright, well I'm just going to ask you a couple of questions. Is that okay?"
I hated how they all spoke to me like I was a toddler; They spoke to me with small words and made sure they took their time to speak extra slow so that I 'understand' what their saying.
I gave no reply, staring at the wall clock behind them. I've been here for at least two hours answering questions and waiting for Abbie to pick me up.
"Okay, Can I have your full name?" He asks.
"Chloe Davies." I flatly respond.
"No middle name?" His eyebrows raise and I nonchalantly shrug.
"My mom said there was no need for a second first name. My name sounds better without one, anyways."
"But your first name has two names. That counts as something right?" He leans his elbows on the table and I offer a small smile.
"No it doesn't. Chloe is one name not two, It's just that-"
"We're getting off topic, you two. Robert please continue with the questions." Laura curtly puts our conversation to an end.
"How old were you when You're-"
"Nine." I didn't like to be reminded of what happened. It made me feel horrible and made me feel Like a sinner.
"How long did it go on for? Months, Years?"
"Laura, you already know the answers to these questions. why am I answering them again?" I sigh.
"Like I said before, I want to see how you respond to Robert. it's simple questions, if you answer them, we'll let you leave." Laura looks up from her clipboard and I scoff.
"Years. It stopped when I was fifteen." I say answering the question uncomfortably. I feel Robert's gaze on me, burning a hole through my body. I look up at catch him staring at me.
He co
ntinues to stare at me for what seems like an eternity, until his eyes divert back to Laura's clipboard.
I finish answering the critical questions and before I know it, Laura is leading us outside of the room where I find Abbie standing in the Hall, heels clicking at the tiles as she spots us and walks over.
"Rose, baby." she gushes, pulling me into a hug. she acts as if we were just reunited.
"Abbie, you're squishing me." I mumble pushing away from her. I'm Angry with her for sending me to therapy. Everything's her fault.
"Chloe, make sure you show up on Tuesday, alright?" Laura points her pen at me.
"Yeah." I breathe, rolling my eyes when she holds her arms out, expecting me to hug her. I lean for a hug anyways, she pats me on the back stiffly.
My eyes flicker to Robert, I let go of Laura and walk up to Robert, wrapping my arms around and bringing my lips up to his earlobe.
"Bye, Mr. Anderson." I whisper.
Chapter 2
"Where's Laura?"
I lean against the door frame of Robert's office, My school back pack slumping on my right shoulder. He looks up briefly, acknowledging my presence as he welcomes me inside. "Last week, you claimed you didn't need her assistance so she won't be arriving until after the session is over." Robert thoroughly explains. I frown. As much as I loathed Laura, I admit I need her here. To me, She's somewhat more of a guardian than Abbie is, but I will never acknowledge that aloud. "Take a seat,"
My backpack drops to the floor with a thud as I slump into the leather couch, sitting directly across Robert. I lean forward, taking a candy off the mint tray, as I watch Robert bring out a clipboard. I look around the office, this place is so cliché; Potted plants stand in every corner of the room, along with bookshelves that stand almost as high as the ceiling. His desk is neatly arranged with psychology paperbacks sprawled out, and the place smells like febreeze. "If you don't mind, I'm going to ask you some questions and take notes about what you say so that I Keep it fresh in my memory. Does that sound alright with you?"
"Mhm."
This is where my offensive side always kicked in. I hated answering the degrading questions that made me feel like something actually was wrong with me. It made me rethink of myself, and for that I didn't respond to most questions resulting me into longer sessions in the past. "Chloe Davies," He writes my name down and I yawn, looking at my nails out of interest.
"Who do you live with, Chloe?" He asks.
"My aunt Abbie and her boyfriend Josh who just moved in." I reply. He looks at me wearily, before writing something down.
"And do you feel comfortable living with them? Does Josh treat you alright?"
"He treats me fine."
"Well what about you living with them? Are you comfortable-"
"Why are you asking me these questions, shouldn't you be asking me questions about I don't know, Let's see, The real fucking reason why I'm here instead of how my life is at home with my shit aunt?"
I know it was out of proportion to make a fuss about questions but I couldn't help it, It was the same demeaning questions that I had to answer all the time and I was about ninety nine percent done with it.
"I was just trying to know my client better through some basic information, But if that's going to be a problem for you then we can head onto more advanced questions." He simply stated, not fazed by my little outburst. Robert differed from Laura to an extreme level. He could cope with my closed-in personality and overflowing mouth, Unlike Laura who always said if I keep getting out of control over something small, She'll call security in to sedate me with a needle. I don't think she's allowed to make such accusations like that, or would even think of sticking a sedating needle in my arm, however she said it to make me quiet. It worked.
"When did you last hear from your mother?" He asks.
I bite on my lip, trying to suppress my nerves as I try to think up an answer. I've been secretly meeting up with my mother for the past two three weeks. Abbie took full custody of me when I was fifteen years old, and because of that, She didn't want to me to visit my mother or be in any contact with her. However, I missed my mom. I needed to see her, I wasn't going to let Abbie keep me away from seeing her.
"I think it was a year ago, at court." I finally speak up. He writes that down and I relax back against the stiff couch.
"And what about your father?"
"I don't remember." I mumble.
I haven't spoken to or seen my father since I was fifteen. After everything that happened, He left. He didn't even show up to the court hearing, It was like he disappeared into thin air without a trace. I haven't seen him since then. Everything changed for me at that age; Abbie got custody over me, I had to change homes, I wasn't even sure if my parents had the title of being parents anymore. "You alright, Chloe?" Robert sets his clipboard down, Giving me a brief look of concern. I could cry just thinking about it, But if I dare even to shed a dingle tear, Robert would definitely tell Laura, resulting me into more sessions and being in therapy longer. "Yes, Sorry, I tend to get nervous sometimes answering these questions."
"You're nervous?" I nod.
He rises from his seat, leaving the clipboard on the chair as he makes his way behind the couch. I'm about to ask where's he heading off to, until I feel a rather large pair of hands on my shoulder.
"I'll help you relax." His voice is soft and soothing, but His hands on me says otherwise. His hands rub tenderly at my shoulders, trying to relax the tension that I’m feeling. It feels too uncomfortable, I mean for god's sake my therapist is massaging me! This isn't right, Laura would file and fire Robert for even thinking about giving me a massage. My mouth is dry. "Robert," I croak, unsure of how to tell him to keep his hands to himself.
"Hm?" I hear a hum emit from his mouth, from behind me.
"Robert, I.." My voice is weak and I'm completely flustered, almost as if I lost all the energy in me. I feel so foreign, this is too much.
"You're legs look a bit tense too,"
My eyes go wide, shaking my head violently, but no. Robert insists on helping me to relaxing during this session. He sits next to me, Grabbing my legs and swinging them over his lap. His hands are rubbing into my skin, inching higher with every movement.
"Relax, Chloe." Robert's voice is soft, though I can't seem to relax. Robert, My therapist, is practically feeling me up.
The room was silent, the only audible sound is my quiet breathing. We've been sitting here for almost what felt like the whole session of him telling me to 'relax' and him feeling me up. He got so close to where my skirt stopped, that I was afraid this mere massage was going to turn into something inappropriate that would get him fired and me more sessions for therapy. A knock sounded at the door and I could hear Laura's enthusiastic voice. Robert sets my legs down, grabbing the clipboard off of the chair as Laura enters the room.
"How was today?" I hear her quietly ask harry.
"Great, she's a bit kept to herself, but I suppose I can handle her." Robert smiles warmly towards both us girls and I feel bile rising to my throat. I was in a complete daze. He was acting as if nothing happened. Not only did he inappropriately touch me, He's my fucking therapist! This was wrong, so wrong.
"Chloe, Was today a good session?" Laura turns to me. I could see Robert being skeptical on What information i would tell her.
And to surprise myself even more, I caught myself lying to her about today.
"It was boring."
Chapter 3
Do you want to know the truth about when someone tells you their fine?
They’re not. Their sulking in the wallowing pits of death, Hoping that someone will finally notice that their actually not fine, that they just don't feel normal anymore. It's a shame, really, how people can go on with their lives, not knowing that some people their surrounded by, have problems; Too many problems, that its get to the point where all they can answer with is "I'm fine." I'm fine. Those two words hold so much more than you can ever think of.
Chloe would li
ke to say that this is her case, and that therapy could actually help her, but it isn't and it doesn't. Her case is that she is mistakenly attending therapy without her consent on so. She is not suffering or going through traumatic stress like any other patient belonging to some sort of session so why was she here? Nothing's wrong with her, She's fine but of course they don't believe her. Laura thinks she's too depressed to talk about anything, Abbie think she's hurting on the inside and believes she needs professional help, And Robert seems to think about sex and sex only.
Chloe knew for a fact that Robert was sexually attracted to her. She found it ironic because he was there to help her, not involve her in more sex activities. It was completely inappropriate for him to be complying to such sins as Having sex with a client, a seventeen year old client in fact. Besides, He was married. He has a wife, Mackenzie Anderson, And a six year old son, Robbie. Was he that unsatisfied with sex at home that he was willing to throw away his life by letting Chloe blow him in the middle of his office? He really is sex crazed, But she didn't mind. In fact, it made her self-esteem boost up knowing that he would want her over his wife.
"In today's session, We're going to talk about trust." Robert circled her like a shark, Watching her fidget under his harsh gaze as she could only think of the endless possibilities that were going to happen during today's session.
"Pretend as if you didn't know me," Robert simply stated. Chloe thought it was one of those Brain tests' that Laura used to challenge her with. It was one of those question and answer types of thing where it always made her have second thoughts about herself, which she didn't like. Robert was using this at his advantage. Robert knew how to play his cards and how to get sweet naive Chloe to follow through his ominous plans. He knew that gaining her trust played a big role in starting the strings of their newly fucked up relationship.
