Beth’s eyes shone with emotion and excitement. “Barghurr, he’s beautiful. He looks exactly like you, though he has Mia’s hair.”

Barghurr took his tiny son who did indeed bear a head of thick red-gold curls. “That he does.”

Holding the baby, he turned to Mia. The sight struck Mia right through the heart.

  “What is it, love?”

“I…she swallowed. “I love you both so much.”

He smiled softly. “Our son loves you too. He proved that by saving your life today.” Reaching the bed, he handed the baby to her. “As for me, it is so much more than love. You know that, my mate. In life and death, I will be by your side.”

Beth sniffed. “I’m going to cry if I hear any more of these emotional speeches.” She helped Mia pull down her bodice. The baby opened his tiny mouth and latched on. “There, he’s a good boy. Elan is waiting to meet his grandson. Once you’re finished, I’ll let him in.”

The baby fed hungrily, and Mia watched him with wonder, touching his tiny fingers and toes.

This day had been so terrifying but ended so wonderfully. All the Rogues were now gone from Lionhaeme. Mia’s future shone bright in front of her, richer than she’d ever thought possible, with a wonderful lion-shifter who adored her and who she adored in return. Now she had a tiny perfect son who had proved he was a warrior, even before he was born.

What more could I ever ask for? She sighed with contentment.

Barghurr said softly trying not to disturb the baby who was falling asleep. “I saw your wedding gift to me. It…was stunning.”

“You truly think so?” she asked, feeling shy. “It still needs a few finishing touches.”

“Oh, I do. There was no need to keep it a secret, but I understand why you did. Its striking and… says so much about us. I’m in awe of my talented mate.” His gaze was sincere and adoring. “I will create a workshop for you here, so that you can finish it. I was thinking we could showcase it in the gardens.”

  “That would be nice.”

The baby slept. His father lifted him and sat beside her, holding the precious bundle to his chest. Mia held his other hand and soon joined her son in exhausted slumber.

Barghurr let out a long breath and feasted his eyes on his tired family as the setting rays of Lionhaeme’s sun shone down on them through the wide windows.
