Anything for Danny

"Look." Luke pointed up against the dramatic sky, where an eagle suddenly appeared, soaring with outstretched wings. It hung, suspended in the air, then with a joyous flap of its majestic wings, it disappeared again beyond the distant canyon wall.
"Little Chief Flying Eagle." Luke's voice was full, deep with emotion.
Sherri wrapped her arms around him and held him tightly. "He's happy now," she whispered softly. "I can feel him smiling down on us…I can feel him here." She took Luke's hand and placed it over her heart.
He shuddered, then slowly nodded. When he raised his head and looked at her, his eyes were clear and shining. "I love you, Sherri," he said.
"And I love you." She wrapped her arms around him as his lips descended on hers. Their kiss was sweet, tender, filled with the abiding love and commitment they'd rediscovered.
They would be all right. What had begun as a trip to the Grand Canyon for Danny's sake had turned into a lifetime commitment for their own sakes.
When their kiss ended, they stayed in each other's arms, leaning against each other. They remained on the observation platform until the colors of the canyon faded with the sinking of the sun. They left a portion of their heart in the canyon, but both knew Danny had given them a final gift…the gift of their forever together.
And with angel wings and a smile on his face, Danny flew.
