  Chapter 1: Meet the Bull

  Kenisha

“I really don’t feel like answering this phone. My momma is gonna drive me crazy. Every since my brother snitched about seeing me out with this aggressive looking lesbian chick from my job, momma has been calling trying to get me to go to church. The problem with that is momma’s church is full of hypocrites. The pastor is sleeping around on his wife, the wife is bisexual, and every sermon is about money or how God is gonna kill the gays. Now I don’t consider myself gay, but if I did, I’m certain God wouldn’t kill me just for that. That would mean he’d ignore all of the other things that I’ve done but gay would just be the last straw. That’s preposterous. ”

Kenisha laughed as she put on her clothes to go to work out. She was in the process of losing weight and the running wasn’t a breeze but it was getting easier and easier by the day. Last week after working a late shift at the warehouse, Kenisha went out for a drink with Taurus, a young woman that worked as a machine operator on the other side of the building. Kenisha knew that Taurus had a bit of a crush on her. It was all the rage of gossip going around the job. Taurus wasn’t attracted to just anyone, the grapevine said. Many women were attracted to her and even some men, but Taurus was deep. She had that Erykah Badu conversation. Kenisha always wanted to know what type of conversation that was so when Taurus asked her to go out for a drink after a long shift one night, Kenisha couldn’t say yes fast enough.

When the car pulled into the parking lot at the bowling alley bar in Northwest Indiana outside the border of Chicago, Kenisha didn’t know what to expect. Taurus opened the car door for her like a gentleman. “Have you ever been here?” Taurus asked.

“No. I’ve never really been outside of my neighborhood aside from work and downtown for business. My momma was very protective so I just seemed to abide by her rules even after I became a grown woman and got my own place.” Kenisha responded.

Taurus thought that was cute. A woman with little exposure gives her the opportunity to share certain experiences with her for the first time. Many of the women that Taurus had dated in the past were so experienced that it was a turn off. They felt that they knew everything. “Well we can experience it together.” Taurus responded. “I like the metaphor of this place. I’ll show you when we get inside.” This must be it Kenisha thought. She’s gonna get deep on me. Kenisha smiled at her own preparation for the upcoming discussion. Taurus caught her smiling and was blown away.

When they arrived at the bar overlooking the bowling lanes after ordering their drinks, Taurus stood behind the stool where Kenisha sat. She placed her chin on Kenisha’s shoulder letting her breath caress Kenisha’s cheek. Her hand slid down Kenisha’s arms as Taurus shared her favorite metaphor. “Do you see how those lights glow? It’s called Twilight Bowl. Everything is under a black light. If it’s not a bright color, it won’t illuminate under the black light. It reminds me of the struggles that we go through. If God didn’t allow us to experience dark times, how else would we know how bright we could shine. You’ve probably never appreciated the color white until right now. Do you see how everyone in white is glowing?” Kenisha was prepared to laugh. She was prepared to roll her eyes and chalk this up to a deep moment for nothing, but she couldn’t. It made so much sense. She had never thought about that before. She’d never considered why she had to experience the bad things. Kenisha just thought that it was a part of living. “So there’s a lesson in the dark times?” Kenisha asked. “Of course there is.” Taurus responded. “But your lesson is unique to you. You just need to get in God’s face to learn more about yourself. You don’t ask a machine what it does. You ask the person that made the machine. It’s the same way with The Most High.”

That was it. That was the moment that Kenisha had been waiting for. She had been waiting to feel something different. She couldn’t help but to want more. She turned around and gazed into Taurus’ eyes. She moved extremely close to her face, inches away and whispered. “What else can you teach me? I wanna know what you know.” Taurus smiled with an arched eyebrow and responded. “Be careful what you ask for. Some things I wish I didn’t know.”

“Hey that’s my sister!” A voice from below called out. Kenisha looked up only to see her spoiled 21 year old brother Corey with a few of his friends peering up at her and Taurus. “Hey little bro.” Kenisha called out. He waved back with love, flashing his large bottle of alcohol like a pseudo rapper in a hidden camera video shoot. They playfully motioned toward each other for a moment until Corey caught a glimpse of Taurus standing behind his sister at a closer than normal distance. He twisted his lips to the side and yelled. “Don’t get in no trouble up there.” Kenisha knew immediately what he meant. She also knew that his love for her wasn’t enough to close that big gossiping mouth of his. It was only a matter of 24 hours before he’d told their mother. He would have told sooner but he didn’t sober up until later the next day.

Kenisha replayed that night in her mind over and over while she ran the track the next morning. She was so excited to be on vacation from work. It couldn’t have come at a better time. She and Taurus were going out again and this time she was going to dress sexier. She didn’t know what she was getting herself into but she couldn’t wait to get into it.

  Taurus

There was something about Kenisha from work. Taurus had never dated women at her job before. She didn’t believe in the drama that could accompany it. It wasn’t that she couldn’t handle it, but she wanted to live peacefully. She had seen life with drama before. Her ex-girlfriend Billie was a monster. She was selfish, demanding, shallow and carnal. That relationship is what drew Taurus closer to God. She had never thought about killing anyone before, but there came a day where Taurus made peace with murder. It was the day after Billie had lost her house keys. Taurus let Billie use her keys because Billie was supposed to be home in time to let Taurus in after a long day’s work. As she sat on the front porch of her house where she paid the mortgage waiting for Billie to come home to open the door, she heard moaning and panting coming from the ground. It was really weird, so much so that it made Taurus laugh. Where could that had been coming from? Taurus stood up and walked around the back out of house with curiosity hoping to get a better view of her neighbor’s wild activities. Taurus giggled all the way to the back steps of the house. Her smile faded slowly as she noticed the sounds were coming from her own basement. It was Billie! Once the denial had left her, Taurus knew the voice. She knew the moan.

Taurus grabbed a tool from the garage and began breaking the windows out of the back of the house. Billie didn’t lose her keys. She just didn’t want Taurus to be able to come in the house before she was done having sex. Billie had lost track of time and forgotten that Taurus was waiting to get in. The shattering of the glass halted the moans and the shuffling of bodies began moving upward to the back door. The neighbors that Taurus had once tried to spy on were now coming outside to spy on her. In a protective fashion, a tall light skinned man opened the backdoor of Taurus’ house, looking to confront a burglar only to find Taurus standing there infuriated hold a Black and Decker cordless nail gun. Standing behind him wearing nothing but Taurus’s favorite t-shirt was Billie. “Oh my God. Taurus!” Billie yelled while putting her hands to her mouth. “Taurus?” Exclaimed the unknown man. “I thought Taurus was your man. You’re with a woman. What is you a dyke or something? Here it is you been had me sneaking around for months because of the danger of Taurus finding out. You had me thinking this was some big dude that could f*ck me up. This just another chick!” Maurice turned to face Taurus and said. “It’s cool momma. We can ALL kick it. I ain’t trippin!”

Taurus responded. “But I am!” Taurus started firing nails from the nail gun
at Maurice. He began running back into the house with little cover and only the hopes of Taurus’s anger to ruin her aim. The nails found their place, a few in his stomach, left side and from the limp that he displayed, one in his foot. It was apparent that Billie knew that Taurus had been pushed to her limit over the last 2 years. Perhaps that was why she had been so careful since the affair with Maurice had begun 3 months prior. Billie knew that it was only a matter of time before Taurus’ kind and loving nature was pushed over the edge. Taurus continued moving forward into the door. Billie rushed toward her to calm her down. Taurus backhanded Billie with the nail gun sending her flying into the glass of the cracked window. Taurus could hear the front door swinging open and the shuffling of the wounded person darting from the porch. The sounds of the concerned neighbors asked an escaping Maurice what had happened. “Them dykes crazy man! She shot me! She shot me man!” The entire block club knew that Billie was a terrible person. Some of them secretly wished that something bad was going to happen to her when they’d heard that Taurus had finally snapped.

Billie squirmed on the floor on top of the broken glass looking at an enraged Taurus. There was an unknown misshaping that was taking a hold of Taurus’ beautiful soft face. Her eyes grew larger and it seemed as if she were two people standing above Billie. Her figure was growing dark with protruding veins and obscure sharp movements. Billie was as afraid as she had ever been in her entire life. It was a different person standing over her. It was a different spirit. Taurus raised the nail gun toward Billie’s face and smiled the widest smile that a human’s body could muster. It appeared cartoonish. Taurus stated. “I heard you getting nailed earlier. It wouldn’t be fair if you didn’t let me nail you too!” Billie screamed for help. Every move was excruciating on top of broken glass with exposed thighs. “Please! Somebody Please! Help Me! Help Me!” Billie’s cries were heard, but sympathy was not shown for she had not shown any sympathy toward her neighbors and associates. She was even mean to the neighborhood children. So, they did not come to her rescue. Billie’s life was left in the hands of fate.

Taurus remembered that day. She remembered how it ended; she’d never shared that story with anyone. She knew that it was too soon to share it with Kenisha. That’s not something that you share on the first few dates. Kenisha was so different from Billie. Taurus had watched Kenisha for a long time. She knew her schedule at work. Taurus even knew what Kenisha liked to eat for lunch around the 5th of the month when she had PMS. Taurus had a gift of putting together puzzles. She knew Kenisha was a bit sheltered; she never talked about going to the club over the weekend, or taking a trip somewhere. She just talked about school, music, healthy eating and weight loss. There was so much that Taurus couldn’t wait to share with her and expose her to, all good things of course. She was so shocked when Kenisha told her that she wanted to know what she knew. She wasn’t ready to learn that. Taurus knew about the spirit world. The world that most people couldn’t see, Taurus COULD see. Taurus was determined not to let any of that show up on the date later that night.

When they went out before, it was after work. This time Taurus was going to dress nice. She was thinking about a nice pair of pants, a cool button up shirt, and maybe a hint of cologne. She had been waiting to see Kenisha all day. Kenisha was on vacation, which made it all the better. More time for her to get ready with her sexy self. Taurus didn’t care that Kenisha didn’t define her sexuality with a label. It was kind of refreshing to get to know a woman that didn’t feel that she had to love and live inside of a box. Taurus just wanted to get to know her, maybe get a kiss. It’d been a long time since she had opened herself up to someone and Kenisha was going to be the one. Taurus just knew it! She had faith!

Chapter 2: What Kind of Woman is This?

  Kenisha

“She’ll be here at 7pm. What am I gonna wear?” Kenisha talked to herself while she stood in the closet. She settled on a little black dress with a few ruffles on the butt. Kenisha had a nice backside but the ruffles made it look all the better. She chose a pair of gold high heel pumps and gold accessories. She didn’t do it often but Kenisha decided to wear her hair down and not in her usual ponytail.

She sat at her vanity mirror preparing for her date and wondered what life would be like waking up to Taurus. She’d never thought about it until after that one night at the bowling alley. It was just something about the way that Taurus spoke and a certain sparkle in her eyes. There was just a power in her that was indescribable. She was so wise. Kenisha couldn’t wait to suck up additional helpings of that wisdom. She even wore pretty panties just in case things got a bit out of hand. One part of her felt naughty, but the other part of her had to admit that it’d been a long time since things got out of hand. The last time Kenisha had some action between the sheets, it was some guy that her mom had hooked her up with. He talked so much about nothing. It was like he was working so hard for the cookie that Kenisha just gave it to him to shut him the hell up. The sex wasn’t good at all but at least he’d stopped talking. Now that she thought about it, maybe that was his strategy all along.

Kenisha knew that it wouldn’t be like that with Taurus. She actually had things to say worth listening to. She hoped that Taurus would make a move on her. At the least she was hoping to get a kiss, but she wasn’t opposed to inviting Taurus in at the end of the night either. Only time would tell.

  Taurus

That night Taurus drove up to Kenisha’s apartment around 7pm. Before Taurus could get out of the car to ring the bell Kenisha was darting out to the car in a dress to die for. “I’ve been waiting on you all day.” Kenisha said out of breath as she hopped into the passenger seat of the Ford Five Hundred. “You have me feeling like a teenager again.” Taurus smiled at Kenisha and said. “I feel like a teenager too. I’ve just been waiting for someone like you to take me away and teach me everything that I should know. I’m thirty something years old but I just feel likes it’s so much that you can show me that I’ve been missing and I wanna see it all.” Kenisha jumped into Taurus’s lap and placed a firm but sensual kiss onto her lips. Taurus felt her waist jump as she gripped Kenisha’s body to pull her closer. Both of their heart beats were racing. Kenisha expressed the same feeling that Taurus had. She too wanted to be taken away from her life and shown something new. For Taurus, she wanted to be shown that a woman could love her without delivering pain to her. Kenisha wanted to experience some form of happiness. In all of her life she’d never experienced what many of her friends had; someone that wanted her in a way that was more than just the physical. That night they sat in the car kissing for half an hour.

Everything was moving so fast. They barely knew each other but they both were in need of something that they saw in the other person. They felt like they had to date because that was what was expected of them. But Taurus had a crazy idea. She stopped kissing Kenisha and said. “This is gonna sound bizarre but hear me out. Can we just skip the let me impress you part of this situation? Can we just jump to the part where we share secrets and trust each other; The part where I take care of you and you take care of me and we just do this by our own set of rules? I’ve been alone for 3 years since my last relationship. I’ve done this song and dance with women and I just want to get to the good part. Can we just get to the good part sweetheart?” Kenisha had never been a risk taker except for once in her life when she was younger. She always did what she was conditioned to do over the years. This was her chance to be a different person that she was told that she had to be by her momma. Kenisha looked forward and answered. “Do you wanna come inside?”

The perfume that Kenisha had sprayed on her body before leaving was still looming in the air inside the apartment. The place was spotless as Kenisha knew that there was a chance that the two of them would end up back there. “Take off your shoes. You can get comfortable. If we’re gonna skip the polite part then you should get familiar because you will be here often I hope.” Kenisha invited Taurus on a tour of the apartment. It was a beautiful place
and very still. The spirit within an environment was very important to Taurus because of her gift of sight. It was obvious to her that God was there. “The Holy Spirit is all over this place.” Taurus said aloud as she walked in and out of the different rooms. “Of course HE is.” Kenisha laughed. “I pray over my place constantly and I know HE covers me.” Taurus sat on the couch and yelled to Kenisha. “Woman! Fix me some dinner!” They both laughed. “I’m just kidding. I wanted to get a feel for it though.” Taurus admitted. “Yeah, oK fool! You still have to earn that type of activity.” Kenisha walked over with a bottle of wine and placed it on the table. “But I can cook really well if I’m motivated. Are you going to motivate me Taurus?” Taurus smiled and grabbed Kenisha’s waist and lured her to the newly introduced bedroom. “Wait! Wait!” Kenisha said. “We need to order Chinese tonight because I don’t think I’ll be able to cook after this.” Kenisha rushed to grab the phone. After shuffling through her host of menus, she walked back into the bedroom where Taurus sat on the side of the bed. While Kenisha ordered a feast of a dinner, Taurus undressed Kenisha piece by piece revealing her shoulders, hips, and every earned stretch mark from her weight loss. She smelled her scent and eyed her panty and bra. She couldn’t wait to touch her. The familiarity of a woman’s body was almost a distant memory. Taurus hadn’t wanted to be intimate with just anyone. She was waiting for the right person. If she was going to sin, at least she wanted there to be some passion in it, for God understood passion but frowned on carnality.

Kenisha ended the call and was immediately swept off of her feet into Taurus’ arms. She had always dreamed of someone doing that to her. She’d always thought that she was too fat to ever have that happen, but at that moment it was happening. Taurus laid Kenisha flat on the bed and asked. “What do you want from me?” In the dark bedroom where nothing but the street lights and the hints of kitchen light from the other room bounced off of the walls, Taurus watched for the answer. Of course Kenisha responded with words, but that wasn’t what Taurus wanted to see. “I want you to just run away with me so we can be better people.” When Kenisha answered Taurus watched the spirit form of Kenisha illuminate. She possessed a white glow on the top of her skin and her eyes were bright. She was looking into the aura of a fellow member of the Body of Christ. There was safety there in that bed where they shared each other. They touched and kissed and Taurus did what she could to make Kenisha feel as if she was running away, forgetting those things behind her and reaching toward those things that were in front of her. Although that was a process of actions to be done over time, Kenisha began that night.
