  ‘Thank you. I think that’s all I need. Do you have any questions?’

  The woman thought for a moment.

  ‘Yes,’ she said. ‘Will there be any compensation?’

  The doctor pulled in his lips as if to derive some nourishment from them. Then he said:

  ‘It’s not for me to say. You’ll have to ask your lawyer.’

  ‘Thank you, doctor,’ said the woman. She left and closed the door behind her.

  The doctor wrote his report to the lawyer shortly afterwards and enclosed his bill with it. Oh yes, there would be compensation all right.
