The Intimidation Game

Page 40

by Kimberley Strassel

Finally, I’ve learned that America really is full of unsung heroes. This book started as an account of political intimidation. Along the way, I realized it also had become a tribute to the many extraordinary men and women who fought against that intimidation, who refused to go quietly, and who daily defend that brilliant thing we call the First Amendment. Their day jobs aside, they spent hours with me on the phone and in person—telling me their stories, helping me with facts, explaining law or history. And for the dozens of people who were openly quoted in this book, there were dozens more who offered me time and guidance behind the scenes.

I thank every one of them.
