Kayla’s voice caught. “I would have loved that too.”
“And then I was going to tell you to pack your things because I was taking you back to Montana with me. I was going to tell you that we were going to get married as soon as possible.”
He lifted her chin, about to cover her mouth with his in another bone-meltingly delicious kiss, but she stopped him with one hand on his chest and a dangerous glint in her eye. “Tell, not ask?”
Cal smiled. “You know, you still owe me a steak dinner.”
“Tell, not ask?”
He was grinning at her. “I am so damn glad to see you—”
“Tell, not ask?”
“Yeah,” he finally answered her. “Tell. Not ask. I figure since it’s the first and last time I’m ever going to be so damned selfish, I might as well go big. Because I figure that from the moment you say that marrying me is okay with you, I’m going to spend every waking moment of the rest of my life giving you everything your heart desires.”
He bent to kiss her, and this time she didn’t push him away.
“Marrying you is okay with me,” she whispered, her lips a breath away from his.
Cal smiled and kissed her.
