  "Progress reports. Every week."

  I gulped. "Does Mr. Kimberly get to see them?"

  "Course! That's the point."

  "I don't see why you always wear that same sweatshirt and those baggy overalls," said Mom about a month later.

  I shrugged. "Got to hurry, Mom. I don't like to keep them waiting."

  When I'm late, Mrs. Kimberly complains to Mr. Kimberly. That puts him in a foul mood. I never like Mr. Kimberly in a foul mood when I arrive.

  "Mrs. Kimberly called a few days back," sighed Mom. "Honestly, I don't know how you understand her."

  "I'm used to the way she talks."

  "Anyway, she said you talked to Mr. Kimberly about your grades," Mom said as I pulled the straps over my shoulder and buttoned them to the bib. "Something about motivation. But, like I said, I don't see how you understand that poor woman."

  "We understand each other well enough. Well, bye, Mom."

  "Honestly, Grace, I still don't see why you have to wear those baggy overalls. And that same old sweatshirt that Karen gave you."

  "It's functional," I replied.

  Mom nodded, thinking that I meant overalls were the right attire for house cleaning.

  "Besides, it's something of a tradition," I added. "Guess I'm a bit old-fashion. Now where's that stupid progress report?"

  "Over here," said Mom, picking up the yellow sheet from the top of my dresser. "You want to show this to Mr. Kimberly?"

  "Not really! But I have no choice. And I do think it's helping. Got only one 'C' this week."

  Algebra Made Easy

  At the counter, Dorothy Dumbarton chops vegetables for dinner.

  Under her husband's supervision, Dorothy's daughter and her classmate prepare to study at the kitchen table. Their algebra textbooks are open and their exams rest on top.

  Fifteen-year-old Kyla Richmond is grateful that Dottie Dumbarton's stepdad is helping them with their algebra.

  Ms. Stotts, their algebra teacher, put a big red 'C-' on Dottie's exam. A 'D+' adorns Kyla's exam.

  Kyla's ditsy single mom is so bad with numbers, she can barely use the calculator app on her smartphone. Mr. Dumbarton, a structural engineer by profession, is Kyla's godsend.

  Perusing his stepdaughter's exam, Doug Dumbarton says, "We went over how to factor an algebra equation, Dottie. We even downloaded those practice exercises from the Internet. What happened here?"

  Dottie sighs. "I guess I didn't practice enough, Daddy."

  "This doesn't sound like a problem with algebra," says her stepdad gravely. "This sounds like a problem with motivation. Would you like a little private one-on-one chat about your motivation?"

  "No, not really."

  "But we addressed your motivation before the exam last month," her stepdad reminds her. "You got an 'A-' if I recall correctly."

  Dottie sighs. "You're right, Daddy. Let's get it over with."

  The two push back their chairs and leave. Kyla can hear them chatting amiably as they climb the stairs.

  A door opens and closes.

  "How come they went upstairs, Mrs. Dumbarton?"

  "You girls can work together on your algebra problems, but motivation problems are best discussed one-on-one. In private."

  "Well," Kyla confesses, "motivation is my biggest problem. I've never been interested in math. Besides, girls are supposed to be dumb in math."

  "Don't let Mr. Dumbarton hear you say that!" exclaims his wife as she chops a carrot into one-inch pieces. "You won't sit for a week!"

  "I know you're just joking, Mrs. Dumbarton!" laughs Kyla. "Mr. Dumbarton reminds me of this big old friendly teddy bear."

  SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!

  Kyla hears Dottie wail. "Wha-aaa-aah-ahh-hhh-hhH-hHH-HHH!"

  "Oh my God!" exclaims Kyla. "What's that?"

  That's your big old friendly teddy bear," chuckles the spanker's wife as she goes after another carrot. "Working directly on Dottie's motivation."

  "How awful!"

  "Suzie Rafael came over here after that last algebra exam. I guess she felt she didn't need any help this time. Doug was able to help Suzie with her motivation, too."

  "He spanked Suzie?"

  "Yes, of course. Do you know of any other way to set fire to the motivation of a teenage girl?"

  "Her folks were okay with that?"

  Dorothy shrugs. "I have no idea. Suzie did say something about her parents never spanking her. If that's the case, they should have called us first."

  "What do you mean?" asks Kyla, confused.

  "If Doug is going to help you girls with your algebra, you have to do things his way. Spankings are one way he helps. When Suzie came over here for tutoring, she accepted his conditions. It's implied consent."

  "But what about me?" says Kyra with a growing sense of alarm.

  "What about you?"

  "My mom doesn't spank!"

  "Did it ever occur to you, Kyra, that maybe that's your problem? Maybe if your mother had addressed your motivational issues with a good, hard spanking, you wouldn't have that 'D+' on your algebra exam."

  Dottie and her stepdad come down the stairs.

  Sitting uncomfortably, Dottie exclaims, "I'm not slacking off ever again!"

  "All you needed, Dottie, was a realignment of your motivation," chuckles her stepdad. "Kyra, let's take a look at your exam."

  "No need," says Dorothy from the counter.

  She wipes away a tear while slicing an onion. "Kyra tells me her problem is motivational. She needs a little one-on-one motivational counseling."

  Kyra can't believe this is actually happening to her.

  One minute, she's sitting comfortably in the Dumbarton's kitchen. The next, she's up in Dottie's bedroom, draped over Mr. Dumbarton's lap.

  Of course, as an un-spanked girl, Kyla has always had a morbid curiosity about such things.

  But she's never been interested enough to find out.

  And she's certainly not interested in finding out now!

  Mr. Dumbarton flips up her skirt. Kyra gasps. She feels the tug on her panties.

  "Mr. Dumbarton! My mom never spanks me on my bare bottom!"

  "Of course she doesn't," replies Dottie's stepdad. "You told me coming up the stairs that your mother doesn't spank at all. Ergo, your mother doesn't spank you on the bare."

  He pats her bare fanny with his spanking palm.

  "That's simple deductive logic, Kyra. You know, logic is an important part of understanding algebra."

  "Yes, but...

  "Wha-aaa-aah-ahh-hhh-hhH-hHH-HHH!"

  Downstairs in the kitchen, Dottie sighs. "I hope spankings don't turn off Kyra to algebra tutoring."

  "Why do you say that?" asks her mother as she grates cheese at the counter.

  "Well, Suzie used to come over to study with me. But since Daddy spanked her, she stopped."

  "I just don't understand where all these un-spanked girls are coming from," says Dorothy as she shakes her head. "You do tell them about the spankings, don't you?"

  "Not really," Dottie admits. "I don't want to scare them off."

  "Well, if a girl doesn't want help with her motivation, then she's not the kind of girl you should be hanging out with anyway."

  Kyra and Doug come downstairs.

  Sitting uncomfortably, Kyra exclaims, "I'm not slacking off ever again!"

  "All you needed, Kyra, was a realignment of your motivation," chuckles Mr. Dumbarton.

  "Kyra, please!" begs Dottie. "Tell me you'll do algebra with me after school. Suzie stopped coming over after just one spanking."

  Kyra wrinkles her forehead. "I'm still mad at you for not letting me know about all this implied consent stuff."

  "Would you have come over? Knowing that my stepdad might spank you?"

  Kyra shrugs. "Probably not."

  "But spankings aren't so bad, are they?"

  Kyra shrugs again.


  The spanking seemed pretty awful at the time, but Kyra realizes that Mr. Dumbarton's spanking is all behind her now.

  "Okay, if spankings really help me with my algebra," Kyra tells her classmate, "I'll keep coming back."

  With Mr. Dumbarton's help, algebra is ever so easy for Kyra.

  Kyra never gets another "D+" on her algebra exams. Her lowest grade is a "B-."

  Kyra is not so fortunate with her motivational spankings though.

  Officer Burns Steps In: Ali and her friend Katie decide they have a foolproof way of skipping school. Unfortunately, things don't work out as planned, and they are caught by none other than Officer Burns. Back at school, they are paddled by the Principal, and Ali is also paddled by her father in the Principal's office.

  Ali at the Academy by Katie Bradford

  Having been suspended from school, Ali's father arranges for Mr Pullman, a disciplinarian at Brookhaven Academy of Behaviour, to visit their house. He is extremely strict and spanks Ali for anything that displeases him. She is subject to further humiliation and embarrassment when Dr Murphy, also from the Academy, arrives to examine her. Later, Ali is left alone in her room while her father and younger sister go out for dinner. On returning home later that evening, Ali's mother confronts her husband about it and, following an argument, she, too, ends up getting a spanking.

  Things worsen even further for Ali when she is sent to spend ten days at Brookhaven Academy while the rest of her family go on a cruise.
