Night Magic: A Wing Slayer Novel

Seeing you like this makes me wish for a child of our own, Phoenix said in her mind.
They’d love him or her fiercely, and like Dev, the child would have more than just his parents; he’d have the Wing Slayer Hunters and their witches loving him as well. You’d be a good father, she told him.
“Can I hold him?”
Ailish had been so intent on the baby and Phoenix, she nearly jumped at Key’s voice right in front of her. “Sure.” She used Phoenix’s vision to settle Devlin in the other hunter’s arms.
Key cradled the sleeping boy in his arms, slipping his finger into the closed fist. “I hope I’m here to teach you how to fight the curse.”
Ailish felt the wave of pain from Phoenix, and her stomach twisted.
The darkness in Key was getting a deep hook in him. They could all feel him withdrawing from them. He was having more manic episodes of drawing slaughtered witches and insisting his brother, Liam, had killed them. But Phoenix feared it was Key’s bloodlust getting hold of him, and one day he would be sucked so deep into the vortex that he wouldn’t just draw a witch kill, he’d actually go out and murder a witch. But baby Dev seemed to reach Key, calming the violence and bringing out the protective, caring, and funny side of the artistic hunter.
With their mind link, Ailish told Phoenix, We fought a demon and won to break my handfast. We’ll find a way to save Key, too.
Phoenix pulled her tighter against him. Together, we’re unbeatable. I love you, Ailish.
As she touched the silver wings around her wrist, the image of Phoenix filled her mind. And I love you. Always.
