My breathing was becoming more ragged. I was so close to orgasm and I needed something more to tip me over the edge. The pressure of his fingers increased the faster I pumped my fist.

“I’m not going to fucking last if you don’t slow down, Kat.”

“Oh God, Timber, please. I need you inside me, pleeease.” I was begging and my hips were rocking so hard that he had to use his forearm to brace me.

His eyes flared. “No, Kat. You’re not ready. Just hold on to me. You’re so close.” It was then that I felt him push two fingers inside of me and I cried out. My body was tipping over the edge of oblivion. “Shit, your pussy is tight.” As the waves of pleasure tore through me, he did something I’d never felt before. He curved his fingers up and touched something inside of me. My orgasm changed into a beautiful, overwhelming mixture of pleasure and pain. Every muscle in my body was tight. A flood of curse words left his mouth.

I hadn’t realized my fist was still pumping him. Timber was reaching his own euphoria, his breathing starting to stutter. He shouted my name just as warm fluid spilled onto my hand and shot across my stomach. I continued to tug his cock until he placed a hand over mine to still my movements. We both were panting. I could feel him pulsing in my hand as he grew somewhat softer. His fingers were still in me and I could feel my walls holding him inside. When he pulled them out, my body quaked, causing another ripple of pleasure.

  “Oh, God,” I moaned.

Timber collapsed on the bed against me. We laid in silence for a long time, allowing our breathing to return to normal. My previously overheated skin was now cooling and I shivered.

“Are you cold?” He got up and moved towards the door.

“Yeah, a bit,” I said softly. “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to get a washcloth so I can clean you off.” He walked out and came back less than a minute later. He sat down next to me and wiped off the mess, then tossed the cloth on the floor. He lay back down beside me, pulling the sheet over my naked skin and cuddled me into his still warm body. “Thank you.”

I lifted my head to look at him. “What are you thanking me for this time?” I teased.

He gave me a radiant smile. “For trusting me to take care of you. You were incredible, by the way.”

“I didn’t think I could feel that way with a man after…” I paused, unsure of how to continue. He squeezed my shoulder, letting me know it was alright, “after what happened to me. I’d shut down. The mere thought of someone touching me the way you just did would make me want to run to the bathroom and throw up.” He reached around me and held my hand, lacing his fingers through mine. “I’m thinking I’m the one that should be thanking you. You’ve given me a piece of myself that had been missing. I’m happy I’m capable of feeling anything in that way.”

He kissed the top of my head, but remained silent. No other words needed to be spoken and I knew he didn’t want to ask me anything else and ruin what we’d just shared. We spent the rest of the night wrapped up in each other.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Timber

It was Friday afternoon and Kat and I were in her car on our way to my dad’s house. Yesterday we’d argued over her coming with me again because she said she felt like she was going to be intruding. She seriously had no idea how much my dad was going to enjoy having her around the house. I’d never had the chance to really bring a girl home because I’d joined the Army straight out of high school. She didn’t understand that this was going to be a treat for him to see me with a girl.

Kat was determined to make me crazy and fight me tooth and nail about it. I swore to her that I’d hog tie her and put her in the backseat if I had to. She wasn’t staying here alone. She tried to tell me that she could stay with Roger if it made me more comfortable. I had grinned at her and told her that she might be able to pull the wool over everyone else’s eyes with her charm, but I wasn’t that gullible. She would tell me she was at her uncle’s, but she would more than likely wind up back at her apartment.

Kat had folded her arms across her chest and attempted to be pissed at me. Her arms under her breasts caused them to push up like a perfect little display for me to stare at. Kat rolled her eyes at me and told me I was looking at her like a hormonal teenage boy. Well, yeah! You put the cookies out in front of me like that I’m going to want to sneak one. It made her laugh and she couldn’t stay mad.

She was sitting in the passenger seat now, biting her nails like she was nervous or something. “Hey.” I tried to get her attention. “What’s with the nail chewing?”

She pulled her finger from her lips and looked at them like she didn’t realize what she’d been doing. “Sorry, bad habit.”

  “You still nervous?”

“Timber, I’m about to meet your dad for the first time.” She said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “What if he doesn’t like me?”

“Kat, we’ve gone over this more than once already. He’s going to love you. My dad is one of the most welcoming guys you’ll ever meet. I promise.” I winked at her and turned my attention back to the road.

“Did you ever find out if he had a ‘lady friend’?” She smirked.

“Nah, he’s not giving anything up.”

“How do you think you’ll feel if he does in fact have someone there?”

I was quiet for a few moments. “I don’t know. I’ve only ever seen him with Mom, but I trust him to find someone that makes him happy.”

She reached over and patted my hand. I laced my fingers through hers, and we drove the rest of the way listening to the radio and playing a ridiculous twenty questions game.

Pulling into Dad’s driveway, I shut off the car and got out to stretch. Kat had gotten out and walked around to the trunk to get our stuff.

“You better be the gentleman I raised you to be, boy, and get the lady’s bags.” My dad was walking out the front door and coming down the porch steps.

I noticed he looked brighter. His eyes weren’t so tired, and he was actually smiling. I grinned at him and put the bags down on the ground. “Hey old man, how’ve you been?” I brought him in for a hug.

He slapped me on the back a couple of times. “Real good. Real good, kid.” As he stepped back, he looked over at Kat. He smiled so widely at her, it touched his eyes. A short whistle came from his mouth. “Well look at what you snagged. Boy, isn’t she pretty.” Kat’s cheeks turned the sweetest shade of pink. “You must be Kat, the girlfriend.” She glanced at me and I just shrugged. He opened his arms to her and she stepped into his embrace. I don’t know what I had been expecting when I saw my old man, but he was certainly happy to see us. It warmed me to see him like this. He hugged her tightly and whispered something in her ear, to which she giggled and flushed red. When he let her go, she moved to my side. My arm went around her back and settled on her hip like it was the most natural thing in the world. Dad was beaming while he looked at us.

“Thank you so much for having me, Mr. Nelson. Timber told me that you love the Fourth of July.”

“For starters, there’s no Mr. Nelsons around here. You can call me Thomas. And second, the Fourth is my favorite holiday. Any excuse to light things on fire, watch them explode, and then stuff my face full of BBQ is bound to be the greatest holiday,” he chuckled. She smiled a brilliant smile at him that melted my heart. I could already tell this weekend was going to be one of the best times I’d had in while. “Alright, well, let’s not stand out here in the heat. I’ve got some fresh sweet tea and some chairs with your names on them. Let’s go relax, huh?”

Bending down, I grabbed our bags and we went into the house. Everything was the same for the most part, except something seemed different. At first I couldn’t put my finger on it, but then I realized that it was airier. All of the curtains were pulled back and there was actual light flooding in through the windows. In fact, I didn’t recall there even being any curtains the l
ast time I was here. Wonder what that was all about.

“Timber, go put your stuff in your room. I’m assuming that this pretty lady is going to be sharing a bed with you.” Kat looked down at the ground. I’d never seen her so shy and reserved. It was sweet.

“If you had a girl that looked like her, would you let her sleep in another room?” I teased.

“Timber!” Kat’s eyes shot up to mine, silently telling me to shut my mouth.

“Hell no I wouldn’t!” Dad laughed.

Turning, I went down the hall and dumped our stuff on the bed. When I walked back out, I found the two of them standing in the kitchen drinking tea and getting to know one another. I leaned against the door frame and watched them talk animatedly about me when I was younger. Listening to them, I also came to find out that Dad knew Kat’s parents. Turns out, they went to high school together as well. Funny how the world seemed so small. Clearing my throat, I walked in and got a glass out of the cupboard.

“I have a feeling you two are going to be trouble together.”

“Probably. Wait until I show her your baby pictures. That’s when the real fun begins.” He wiggled his eyebrows at Kat.

“Dad, isn’t that something that moms are supposed to do?” I rolled my eyes.

“Bullshit. I’ll gladly show off your two year old white ass in a bathtub. The girl deserves to know what her kids might look like, although you were pretty damn cute. Got your looks from your mom.”

I choked on my drink. “Slow down, old man. You’re getting ahead of yourself.”

Kat looked at me and smirked. “How about later you show me these naked baby pictures, and I’ll determine for myself what I’m in for.”

She was testing me to see if I’d bolt. What she didn’t know was that the idea of marriage and kids with her didn’t scare me. What did scare me was if she wasn’t going to be around long enough for us to get to our forever. I stood my ground and gave her a half smile. “You, me, and naked baby photos will be later. Right now I have some questions for you, Dad.” I turned my attention to him. “What’s with all of the curtains? It looks like a woman came through here and gave it the Midas touch.”

He set his glass down on the counter and said, “That’s because a woman did. And that woman will be here in about an hour for you to meet.”

Slightly shocked, even though I knew this was coming, I asked, “Are you even going to tell me her name before she gets here?”

  “Nope.”

My mouth dropped. “Are you kidding?”

“No, I’m not. You and Kat can meet her when she gets here.” He came towards me and put his hand on my shoulder. “Listen, son, I know she’s not your mother, and she’s certainly not going to try to be. But I haven’t dated anybody since your mom. This one… well, she sorta took me by surprise.” He gave me an honest smile. “Give her a chance, okay? You’ll like her. And she’s making me happy.” He clapped me on the back a few times before he walked out of the kitchen, leaving me standing there with my thoughts.

So there was a woman in my dad’s life. He said she was making him happy. That’s all that mattered at the end of the day, right? Looking around the place, I remembered how dark it had been the last time I was here. My dad hadn’t spoken much and we had just sort of existed in the same house together. Now, it felt like there was new life behind these walls. Dad was smiling more than I’d ever seen him smile, and he simply wanted me to accept this new woman. Yeah, I could give him that. It might be strange having her here, but if he liked her this much, I was sure I would too.

Now, looking across the kitchen, my new life was watching me with those hazel eyes. “What are you looking at?” I taunted her.

“Oh, just wondering if your butt now is as small as it was when you were two.”

I chuckled. “Feisty little girl. Come here!” I darted towards her as she squealed and took off running.

  ************************************************************

“Damn, Alice that was some good potato salad.” I leaned back in my lawn chair and rubbed my stomach. Kat giggled at me because I was trying to push it out, but couldn’t.

Dad came up behind me and slapped the back of my head. “Language, boy.”

Alice clucked at both of us. “Give me a break, Thomas, your mouth is worse than his. And I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

I’d finally learned what Dad’s new girlfriend’s name was. Turns out I liked her. She was shorter than my mom was, and had fairer skin, but I could see some similarities between the two. Both were inviting and open to everybody they met. Both had a permanent smile glued to their face, like the world was always telling them a funny joke. And both were head over heels for my dad. Any reservations I might have had prior to meeting her were now gone. I approved, and I had no doubts that my mom would have too. She would have wanted him to find happiness again.

“When do you think you’re going to teach me how to make it?” My dad asked Alice.

“Make what?” She said in her singsong voice.

  “The potato salad.”

“Oh, heavens, probably never.” She batted her eyelashes at him. “This recipe has been in my family for years. You have to prove you’re sticking material before they trust you with something like that.”

Kat laughed. “Golden potato salad. Hmmm… never heard of food being held with such high regard.”

“Oh, honey, you can lure any man in with a decent meal and a pretty smile.”

She sounded so sweet and southern, I started to think that even I was falling for her. “Well, you’ve got me. Now can I have some more, please?”

“Of course, hand me your plate.” She dished me some more and passed it back.

Dinner went on for about an hour while we chatted, teased, and sucked down our food and drinks. It was really humid outside today, but we still chowed down out on the deck Dad had repainted. Even with the typical Texas heat, I’m not sure today could have been more perfect.

The sun was beginning to set in the sky, and the fireworks were going to be going off in about thirty minutes. Kat ran inside to get me another beer and a Mike’s Hard Lemonade for herself. Dad and Alice had ended up heading into town to watch the fireworks from the park. I’d pulled some lawn chairs out into the front yard so we could see the lights through the big oak trees. Kat came out with her hands full.

She looked radiant. Her normally pale skin had a hint of sun-kissed pink to it, and she was glowing from the heat. She had her hair pulled up in a messy bun, and dark tendrils of hair were hanging around her cheeks while a few clung to her neck. Her tank top showed off her tattoos, and the short shorts she was wearing, displayed the legs that I loved so much and her skull candy tat. She plopped down in her chair, and I realized I’d placed her too far away. Grabbing the chair arm, I dragged her closer to me. She let out a little yip, but settled into her seat and flung her silky smooth legs across my lap. She sucked in a breath of air when I let the condensation of my beer drip onto her thigh and drew lazy swirls with my fingers through the droplets on her skin.

“Whatcha thinkin’ about over there, big guy?” Her greenish brown eyes looked at me with desire.

“I’m thinking that when this show is over, I’m taking you inside and getting you naked so I can wash all the sweat off your body. Might even use my tongue for the job,” I winked.

She gasped but didn’t say anything in response. It didn’t take too long before bright lights started filling the sky. Downtown Houston always set off a big show every year and there was music that accompanied it, but we couldn’t hear it all the way out here in the ‘burbs. The neighborhood remained fairly quiet, and I knew most of the people were probably in town at the park just like my dad was. There were a few that had done the same thing we did and were chilled out on their front lawns.

When the first firework went off, it lit up a bright yellow. My eyes were on the sky but I noticed my heart started beating a little faster than normal. Several more fireworks shot off and it was abo
ut the same pace. Hmm… that was strange. Five minutes passed. Kat was cuddled up on my shoulder with her legs still resting on me. I’d chugged my whole beer, and I had started to sweat a bit more than I had been earlier. Kat was probably the reason I was warmer, being that she was lying on me, but I wasn’t about to ask her to move.

As more fireworks went off in the sky, the momentum started picking up. Vibrant blues, whites, reds, and purples lit up in a quick paced synchronization. Ten minutes in and I was now dripping with sweat. My heart was hammering in my chest and I felt like my body was on edge. My girl was completely oblivious to what was happening inside me, and I wanted to keep her that way. My hands were clenched into fists at her side. With each boom, the sound rumbled in my chest, making me feel like a guitar string too tightly wound. At any second I was about to snap.

The display reached its grand finale. Explosions of lights of all different shapes and colors blew up within milliseconds of each other. The booms that echoed through the air reverberated in my chest. My body was thrumming, and I felt like if I didn’t get up and do something with myself right now, I was going to go postal.

Giving Kat’s legs a gentle shove, I stood up and started walking into the house. I heard her calling after me, but I couldn’t answer her. My head was somewhere else. As soon as I got in the kitchen, I pulled open the fridge, popped the top on a fresh beer and chugged it down. It was halfway gone when Kat showed up in the doorway.

“Timber, what’s going on? You’re white as a ghost.”

How does one explain that a simple firework made me clammy and ready to fight something? How does one explain that just the sound of one popping made me want to lock myself in a dark room and never come out? I didn’t know where my head was at and I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to decide. So, instead of answering her, I gulped down the rest of my beer and went for another. Two beers down in less than five minutes. I was going to have a good buzz.
