Despite the uncomfortable position, Doctor Packard relaxed, unable to contain a weak smile. “It worked,” he whispered, the smell of coffee floating on his breath. “It actually worked.”
Huck threw him onto a designer couch and turned to face his almost ex-wife’s dark eyes. His chest heaved and he didn’t need Doctor Fuckwad to explain any further because there was only one thing that would work. One thing that would bring her back to life. The same thing that brought BJ back in that lonely diner sitting off Highway Fifty-Nine. The same thing Huck witnessed with his own two eyes. Panic stole his breath, vision blurry around the edges. He had a beautiful little girl to think about and now it was here. In his town. A blight cast down for mankind’s sins.
Growing stronger with each passing day.
And if it was here…
Hitting his knees, Huck sank both hands into his hair and pulled. “Noooooooo!”
