  Vol. 1 - Changes

Dylan is a young, blond, hunky bartender working in the only gay bar in the resort town of Cape Shoals, Florida. Life is pretty sweet for Dylan: he sleeps all day, works at night at a bar by the beach, and sleeps with as many cute boys as he can get his hands on.

Life would be perfect for Dylan except that his boss Raul at the bar is a homophobe who hates his guts for no real reason.

However, when Raul is suddenly fired by the owners, they bring in sexy, muscular Chris to take his place. Dylan immediately falls for his new boss.

But will Chris return in affections or cause even more havoc in Dylan's life?

  “BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!”

Dylan reached for his smart phone and shut off the alarm. Was it really 2 o'clock already? He felt like he just went to bed. Dylan yawned and rubbed his eyes. Another Friday, another bar shift. He went into the kitchen and starting brewing his “morning” coffee. As a full time bartender, his day rarely started before 2pm, often later on his days off. It was fine for Dylan; he was a night owl and all but useless in the morning. Sleepily, he got up and turned on the shower. He pulled off his boxer briefs and looked at his face in the mirror.

At 25, Dylan had the hollow cheekbones and refined jawline of a man, yet the wide blue eyes of a teenage boy. His pale blue eyes were usually the first thing people noticed when they looked at him. He kept his naturally blond hair (made blonder by the sun) short for swimming and the occasional day of surfing. His mother had named him Dylan after her Hollywood crush, some old-time movie star. However, she often remarked she should have just named him Dyl, his nickname and a name that very much suited his personality. Dylan was charming, personable, and could usually get whatever he wanted from people, both male and female. While there were a lot of pretty blond boys running around the resort town of Cape Shoals, none were as outgoing and clever as Dylan.

Dylan had worked as a bartender for most of his adult life. Dylan liked being social, liked being out on the town, and it seemed like a natural fit. He worked at his current bar, the Cape Shoals Bar and Patio, for almost three years. Growing up in a little town in the middle of Florida, his first goal was to live near the beach. Dylan had also been out as a gay man for most of his life. As he got older, his second goal was to be surrounded by beautiful men as often as possible. Being a bartender helped him achieve both goals.

Dylan never really “came out” like so many of his older gay friends. He just always knew he was gay and everyone else knew it too. He liked to joke he didn't come out of a closet - he came out of a womb. Maybe that was what gave him his confidence. Since he was never in the closet, he never questioned who he was. He always had the confidence to pursue what he wanted and who he wanted. Guys also loved Dylan for that confidence he projected.

Dylan took a step back to look at his naked body in the mirror. Because of his fairly active life of running, swimming, and surfing in his off time, Dylan didn't have to spend much time at the gym. However, because his tips depended on a mixture of a good personality and maintaining a hot body, he still worked out at least twice a week. Dylan was pretty proud of his hard body. At 6'2”, he knew being taller meant having to work out more to maintain it. Some of it was also the gift of great genes: his large Jagger lips, his swimmer's build and frame that allowed him to pack on some extra muscle, as well as his well-shaped nipples that pointed slightly downward on his pecs. Dylan ran his fingers along his tight abs. His six-pack was the hardest thing to maintain, but a combo of surfing and crunches at the gym kept his stomach tight. His abs formed that V-shape that all the gay boys covet, both on their bodies and in their beds. For good measure, Dylan grabbed his nine-inch dick and gave it a few tugs. Most of his friends didn't realize there was truly a reason why he was a little “cocky.” He took a deep breath and got into the shower.

As Dylan walked into the bar, he looked at the digital clock across the bar - he was 15 minutes late. Raul would yell at him for sure. Raul seemed to be the only person immune to Dylan's charms. At 60 and straight as an arrow, he preferred flirting with the revolving door of cute girls with big breasts who both frequented the bar and worked as waitresses. Dylan had not spotted Raul yet, but it was probably only a matter of time before Raul came out to unlock the door. He decided he'd grab the bottles needed from the storage room, go out to his bar on the patio, and begin setting up. When Raul came by, he would pretend he had been there the whole time.

As Dylan started sorting through the bottles in storage, he heard footsteps behind him.

“DYLAN?” someone behind him screamed. It was Raul. “I thought I'd find you here! Thought you could sneak past me, eh?

Dylan turned around to see Raul staring at him. It was a well-known fact around the Cape Bar and Patio that Raul hated Dylan. However, Raul's bosses loved Dylan, and more importantly, the fact that he was usually was the top selling bartender every week. Raul probably couldn't get Dylan fired, but he could make Dylan's life miserable.

“Dylan, you've been here forever, you KNOW what time to be here. I'm docking you for this time,” screamed Raul. Raul was known to scream at anyone, for any reason. However, Dylan was often his favorite punching bag.

“C'mon Raul, leave me alone. Last week, Valerie was like 20 minutes late. You didn't dock her or even bother her.”

“Valerie has nice tits. You don't.”

  “That's really not fair, Raul.”

“Listen, Dylan, I don't have to be fair. I just have to be right. Which I am, pretty much all the time.” Raul often said sexist or disparaging things about the waitresses when he thought no one was listening. He definitely tended to favor the pretty girls with better tables and free food and drinks. He'd also usually let their screw-ups slide. However, the people he did not like (like Dylan), he watched like a hawk. “Those queens are coming soon, Dylan. Get your stuff and get to your station. I really don't care what you think is fair.”

Common knowledge around Cape Shoals was that Raul was a little homophobic. He was not overt, slinging gay slurs or anything of the like. However, Dylan would always see him tense up if he had to visit the Patio for any reason during the night. Raul was visibly uncomfortable around gay men. Even though he never said it outright, Dylan was pretty sure Raul blamed him for the uptick in gay clientele on the Patio. Dylan had been hired by another manager who no longer worked at the Cape Shoal Bar and Patio. Patty had been a nice to Dylan, but she quit a month after Dylan's arrival over Raul's antics and constant harassment. She liked Dylan and figured his good looks would bring more women to the bar. However, that plan backfired when the inn was taken over by a gay couple and the gays starting using the Patio as a hangout, since the inn did not have a bar. Raul was made Dylan's new manager after Patty left, and Dylan and Raul were
enemies from there on.

Dylan was in a grumpy mood the rest of the night, and it definitely affected his tips, making him even more grumpy. Dylan didn't even see any of his regulars, who he can usually commiserate with and share a few problems. Most of them hated Raul. All of Dylan's regulars came just to see Dylan; some had never even been inside the bar. He had considered quitting, but overall, he enjoyed his job. He loved being outside serving drinks, and interacting with the patrons. Unless Raul really had no choice, he did his best to avoid Dylan and the Patio. Plus, the money was usually good. Dylan occasionally had a troublesome guest; someone who got a little too loud or a little too drunk. However, most people were respectful and tipped well. None of them wanted to piss off the sexiest male bartender in Cape Shoals (or so Dylan had been told). If only Raul would just leave, it would be a perfect job.

Saturday came, and Dylan slept through his alarm. He hadn't been sleeping well and apparently, it all caught up to him that night. When he finally woke up, it was almost 3 o'clock. Shit! Shit! Shit! Dylan thought to himself as he got into the shower. With his dismal tips last night, Dylan could not afford yet another dock in pay. He got dressed as quickly as he could, and ran out the door.

As he came through the door, he glanced at the digital clock: 3:50. Dylan was supposed to be there by 3:30, setting up the bar to open at 4pm. Raul was going to hand him his ass on a plate for sure. He winced as he ran back to the storage room, hoping Raul wouldn't catch him again. He heard footsteps coming towards him again. Shit! Shit! Shit! He turned around and was relieved to see Tanya, his friend and closest ally at the bar. Tanya was one of the pretty girls with big breasts who had actually stayed around, and was the de facto head waitress, simply because she'd been there longer than anyone else, even Dylan.

  “Hey T! What's new?”

“Doing fine. Just making sure all the stock is here for tonight. Are you just getting here? Dylan!”

  “Shhhh...don't tell Raul!”

“Wait, you didn't hear? Raul is history. I'm your boss until they find a replacement.”

  “WHAT?”

“Yeah, apparently the owners finally got down to why the cash drawers kept coming up short. Raul kept blaming the new waitresses, which is why we couldn't keep a good waitress in this place. Meanwhile, Raul was dipping into the till. Five years he was pulling this crap! They fired him this morning before the bar even opened. No one texted you?”

  “No! So you're my boss?”

“For the next few days at least. They are already looking into hiring someone new. They offered it to me, but with tips it would be a pay cut. And I don't want all that responsibility. All right, enough gossip! Get to the Patio now and I'll let it slide that you're late today. No one really shows up until 5 anyway.”

Dylan smiled, grabbed some bottles, and ran out to the patio. The Cape Bar and Patio where he worked was divided into two sections: the inside area (the Bar), where mainly people from the town hung out, and the Patio by the beach, frequented more by people on vacation and by the gays. The Patio's close proximity to the inn run by a gay couple and a few positive reviews on a gay travel site had made it the only gay bar of Cape Shoals, even if it was unofficial. Dylan knew he could probably make more money working at bars in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, but he didn't really think of himself as a city person. Besides, his favorite part of the job was watching the men on the beach. He felt like the big fish in a small pond.

Dylan didn't really have many vices. He didn't enjoy anything harder than a few glasses of wine after work. Drinking had long since lost its allure to Dylan. Too many nights watching people throw up onto the beach after a night of hard drinking will do that to you. However, Dylan loved guys. And sex. Dylan loved to flirt, which lent itself well to being a bartender. Dylan's deep voice also took a lot of guys off guard. A good conversation, a few drinks on Dylan's tab and the guy was his for the night. Most of the guys were easy marks. Dylan had a knack for spotting the ones who wanted to get laid that night. As for the ones who did not know they wanted to get laid that night, the ease of which Dylan flirted usually brought their guard down. Dylan even managed to fuck a few straight guys this way. Fucking guys had become a sport for Dylan, a hobby he could pursue in his free time.

Although it was a Saturday night, it ended up being pretty uneventful. Jim, Wes (short for Wesley), and Harry, the three old gay men who visited Dylan every week, were the first to come see him. They were nice old men and always tipped well. Dylan loved his regulars, but mostly as friends.

“How goes it, Dylan baby?” said Harry.

“Oh, just dandy.” said Dylan. Sometimes Dylan said things like that even when he was having an awful day, but today he meant it.

“So, Dylan, I heard Raul is long gone,” said Wes, as he sipped on his second margarita.

“Yeah, not really sure what happened,” said Dylan. While Dylan knew exactly what happened, he didn't want to badmouth his old boss in front of customers. Bad form in the bar world.

“Well, I'm glad he's gone,” said Jim. “You know, we've been coming here for a while now, and Raul was never nice to me. I know he didn't want any gay people here, but now, we're like half the customer base. I see more gays coming through here every year!”

Wes laughed. “Yeah, let's hope the new manager actually pays attention! Shows us a little respect! Any dirt on who it might be, Dylan?”

“Are you kidding? They tell me nothing in this place! They could be giving away free blow jobs in there and I wouldn't know!” said Dylan, cracking a smile. Everyone laughed. That was the truth, though. Dylan felt like he was the last to know anything in the bar. Raul usually never bothered to talk to him about things, except to criticize him.

The guys seemed to be in a good mood today. They were laughing and jovial; it seemed Raul leaving had boost morale for everyone. The guys usually left before the sun went down, allowing Dylan to ease into the rest of his night. There was usually a quiet lull on Fridays and Saturdays after Jim, Wes, and Harry left, but before the evening crowd showed up. It was a warm spring day, nice and warm, with a small beach breeze. It would get hot soon, but today the weather was perfect. As the sun set, Dylan watched two male surfers coming out of the water. They were just close enough, Dylan could see their wet, sandy hair and their muscles bulging under their wetsuits. Man, they are hot, thought Dylan.

One of them began to strip down and pulled the wet suit off his upper body to reveal a chiseled torso. Dylan loved watching the surfers from the bar; they were almost always hot. The second one, blond like Dylan, unzipped his wetsuit and did the same as his buddy. He was rocking a hot six-pack, and stripped further to a pair of red bikini briefs. Dylan was getting excited. He gave his cock a few tugs, as he was pretty sure no one was looking. The blond rubbed his hairless pecs a little, wiping away some sand and sea salt. Dylan kept tugging at his cock, he could feel a warmth coming up his body. Dylan closed his eyes a minute. A few seconds later, he heard, “Dylan? You all right? You daydreaming? It's so quiet out here! Can I get a rum and Diet Coke? And a vodka soda for my lady here.”

Dylan opened his eyes to two new customers, Edna and Barb. Edna and Barb were an older lesbian couple who frequented the Patio. They were fun to chat with, usually got a little too drunk, and would always over tip Dylan at the end of the night. Dylan's cock would just have to wait.

“Hey ladies, how's it going? Sorry, I drifted out for a minute.” Dylan smiled and quickly grabbed two glasses. Edna and Barb were a rare breed in town. While more and more gays seemed to be visiting, the lesbians were flocking elsewhere. Edna grew up in Cape Shoals, moved away for many years, and then moved back in early retirement with her wife, Barb. Edna usually did most of the talking, while Barb usually did most of the listening. Despite Edna living in several major cities for many years, she retained the mannerisms and accent of someone who grew up in the redneck beach town that Cape Shoals once was.

“You were intently thinking about something, darling. You secretly a philosopher
as well as a bartender?” Edna laughed at her own joke. Dylan smiled his fake bartender smile. Edna often made bad jokes, then laughed at them. Barb never laughed though, maybe she heard her wife's jokes one too many times.

“Just intently concentrating on something important,” said Dylan. He figured the less said to Edna the better. If it had been one of his gay male patrons, he might have pointed out the surfer to him and enjoyed the scene for a few extra seconds. However, Edna and Barb were hardly interested in hunky male surfers.

“We heard that Raul was fired the today. I'm SO glad. He was such an idiot, always harassing you for minor things. Good riddance.” Dylan was not surprised that so many people had already heard about Raul being fired. Cape Shoals was a small town, and the gay community was even smaller. It was hard to do anything without everyone knowing about it within 24 hours. Plus, Raul being fired was big news. Everyone knew it probably should happen, but no one thought it actually would happen.

Dylan dropped his guard for a minute. “Yeah, it was for the best.” With anyone else, he might have tried to sugarcoat his feelings toward Raul, but Edna and Barb were always good to him, and usually didn't blab everything Dylan said to all the other customers.

“Any news on who is replacing Raul? Maybe some hot chick who will whip everyone into shape? Barb would probably like to see that!” Edna elbowed her partner in the forearm and starting laughing again. Edna's laugh was low and guttural, coming from her belly. Dylan and Barb sat there, stone-faced.

When Edna stopped laughing, Dylan finally replied, “No clue. No one ever tells me anything.” Dylan contemplated for a moment recycling his blowjob joke he told the guys but decided to let Edna keep her bad jokes going.
