Oh, shit. I wasn’t expecting that. “Oh, um, this Saturday?”
Carly’s practically bouncing at the idea. “Come on, Amy. You should go. You’ll have a great time and after you caught that prick cheating on you, you deserve a great guy like Mason.”
I can feel my jaw drop and my whole face turn beet red. All eyes are on me as Carly just pours out my life story in the middle of the crowded salon. I glance at Mason and the slightly horrified look on his face is all the confirmation I need that the offer has been rescinded. “Sorry, but I can’t.”
I turn away and get back to sweeping, eager for the blood to leave my cheeks and flow back to my brain so I can come up with a reason to go to the back room.
“Why not?” Mason’s voice surprises me and I look up at him through the mirror.
“Why not what?” Playing dumb is my go-to response when I don’t know what else to say.
“Why can’t you come? I promise to show you a good time.” He gets that twinkle in his eye as he says, “I’ll let you taste my cream stick.”
The laughter that follows causes another blast of heat to warm my body but I can’t hold back my own chuckle. “Fine. But I want the cream stick first. If it’s not good, I’m not going.”
I know the other stylists are trying to figure out if we’re talking about a blow job or if they’re missing something. Either way, I’m actually looking forward to going out. Mason is a good guy and it’ll be fun to get dressed up.
When I turn to put away the broom, Nate is glaring at Mason. He has the look that says he’s about to lose his shit so we better stay the hell away. I was on the receiving end of that look yesterday and feel sorry for the guy getting it now. Fortunately, Mason is too caught up in Carly’s incessant chatter that he doesn’t notice the daggers being shot to him through a set of beautiful blue eyes.
