Sora stabs her again, this time in the belly.
I scream, a mixture of fury and despair, while Rada can only softly moan.
Her power struggles to keep up with the wounds, distributing itself as both wounds glow in an attempt to self-heal. But not quickly enough.
Kneeling beside her, Sora widens the wound in her belly, then forces his hand inside of her.
Rada tries to scream, but all that comes is a bubble of bright red froth from the slit in her neck. A bright light appears in her midsection and Sora clamps his fist around it, maneuvering it up and out of her.
“No,” I cry, still trying to claw my way forward, even as Hades’s foot presses deeper into my back.
He can’t do this! Sora doesn’t have the ability to take Rada’s power! It takes multiple gods to perform the transfer ceremony.
And yet somehow, he is. Sora’s arms are shaking but he’s managing. He pulls the light from Rada’s body, and slips it down his own throat.
Rada falls to the stage when he lets go of her, limp as a rag doll.
The pressure on my back is suddenly gone. I surge forward, half leaping, half crawling until I’m at Rada’s side. She gurgles, blood in her mouth as well as gushing from her throat. She reaches up, touches my face, mouths the word sister.
The light goes out of her eyes.
I look up to find Sora towering over me. Hades flanking him.
“Glad you could join us, brother. Things are not the same without you. The gods have greatly missed the company of Zeus. Well, some of us have, anyway.”
“Zeus?!” Alaric shouts. He’s fighting to get to me, but Trevor is holding him back, a slimy smile on his face. Gods, previously part of the transfer ceremony, have Lilliana and her Amazon sister restrained rendering the girls powerless.
I look up, cradling Rada’s dead body. Edie is at my side, her warm hands on my shoulders.
The king of the gods looks down at me through Sora’s eyes. A rumble of thunder booms across the stage.
“That’s right, kids,” Zeus says. “It seems that the news of my death was greatly exaggerated.” He looks directly at Edie. “You can’t get rid of me quite so easily. I’m here to take back my powers.”
Reaching down, he grabs Rada’s body, tearing it away from me. Then he flings her over his shoulder, as if she were garbage.
“One down,” he says. “Who’s next?”
