If he continued kissing her like that, she might have an orgasm just from that one scorching kiss.

Penny whimpered as she began to rub her aching nipples mindlessly against his chest. Ford kissed his way down her undulating body and dropped to his knees in front of her.

He threw her leg over his powerful shoulder and pressed his mouth to her pussy. Penny cried out when he thrust his tongue into her slit.

Penny thrashed her head from side to side as Ford fucked her with his tongue. The pleasure was building up in her, and she had to stop herself from begging.

Penny shivered and cried out in ecstasy. Delicious tremors were coursing through her body, and she was panting and murmuring incoherently.

Ford stood up suddenly and kissed her hard on the lips. She moaned at the scent and taste of her own juices.

  “Ford...”

She wrapped her arms and legs around him. She wanted him, all of him.

“Make love to me,” she whispered. “I want to feel you deep inside me.”

  CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

Ford stared into Penny’s eyes for a long moment. Her beautiful hazel eyes burned with want and desire. He heard the plea in her voice, her words.

“Penny,” he said hoarsely. “I can’t resist you...”

“You have been resisting me all this time,” she said, trailing a finger down his jaw.

“Ah, Penny...” Ford took a shuddering breath. “I want you so much. Being so near you, and not touching you...it was sheer torture.”

“Why didn’t you even try to kiss me? There were ample opportunities...”

“I knew that if I kissed you, I wouldn’t be able to stop.”

“Then don’t. Don’t stop,” she said, staring straight into his eyes. “Take me. Fuck me. I’m yours.”

With one powerful thrust, Ford buried himself inside her body. He leaned his forehead against hers for a long moment.

  “Penny...”

He looked into her eyes, and he knew that she could see all his raw, swirling emotions, emotions he had kept hidden until now.

She saw his desire, his want, his love. Ford loved her, and he wanted her so much.

Ford began to thrust into her. She felt so good, so hot and tight.

Ford took her hard against the wall, and Penny made small yipping sounds as he pounded into her. She was so wet, and her channel squeezed his cock possessively as he surged into her.

He could feel her nails turning to claws, and digging into his back.

Her hazel eyes began to glow, and he saw her wolf looking out at him.

He could feel the connection between their animals, and Ford knew without a doubt that Penny was his mate.

  “Mine,” he growled.

Her wolf receded and the glow faded from her eyes. Penny gasped and blinked at him.

“I...I felt her,” she whispered. “I felt my wolf...”

  Ford nodded.

Penny smiled and clung tighter to him. “You feel so good, Ford.”

He stroked deeper into her and bent down to pull a hard, dark nipple into his mouth. Penny moaned and arched her back.

  “More...” she begged.

Ford suckled her harder as he fucked her. She was so sexy, so beautiful, and it felt amazing to be inside her. He wanted to claim her right now, but he knew that she wasn’t ready.

Penny had to be ready and willing to wear his mark. He would never force a mating on her.

Her wolf was fully formed, and her animal would let her know when it was ready to mate. Ford suspected that her wolf was waiting to be claimed and marked by all three of her mates.

Ford, Dillon and Ryder had to mark Penny at the same time.

  CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Penny closed her eyes, her lips parting as she made sounds of pleasure. She was a responsive and sensual lover, and Ford knew that he would want to have her every single night.

She was his, but she also belonged to Dillon and Ryder. The erotic image of both Ryder and Dillon pleasuring her on the dining table was seared into Ford’s mind.

Ford knew that Penny was spending her nights with Dillon and Ryder. He knew that Penny wanted him too, but he wasn’t sure how his bear would react to his mate being with other males. He didn’t want to end up with blood on his hands. Dillon and Ryder were like his brothers. He couldn’t let his bear hurt them.

  So he waited.

He’d thought that his bear would go berserk, knowing that his mate was with other males. But his bear didn’t mind at all. His bear recognized that Dillon and Ryder had equal claim to Penny. She was their mate as well.

His bear just wanted to claim his mate. His beast wanted to mount Penny and take her right there on the floor whenever he saw her.

It was a savage struggle between man and beast.

Even now, his bear was roaring inside his head, demanding that he mark her with his bite.

Ford snarled as he thrust into Penny. He would fuck her and pleasure her, but he was not going to mark her until she willingly bared her throat for him. That was how a female shifter signaled her readiness to accept the mate mark.

Ford, Dillon and Ryder were all her mates. Penny’s wolf would want to be marked by her three mates together.

Ford wrestled his bear down. He would not mark her now. Penny had to be ready.

Ford felt her muscles clenching around him. Penny came with a scream, and Ford emptied himself inside her. He remained inside her after his release, reluctant for their bodies to separate.

Penny slid her legs down and swayed on her feet. “That was...amazing,” she said.

Ford held her in his arms and closed his eyes for a long while. “You are amazing,” he whispered.

  “We should do it again.”

  “Don’t tempt me,” he warned.

Penny giggled as Ford began to soap her up. Ford took his time exploring her body, touching her lovingly.

  His mate was adorable.

She was extremely ticklish under her armpits and behind her knees. He knew where to tickle her now.

“My turn,” Penny said and planted her hands on her hips. “I have to find out where your ticklish spots are. Fair’s fair.”

Ford shook his head and backed away from her.

“You’re not going anywhere,” Penny drawled and sashayed towards him. “I want to know everything about you. I’m going to peel back all your layers.”

“You already know me,” Ford said, holding her waist. “I’m not a complicated guy. I love my work, my life and my family. I may not be the most chatty guy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care.”

“I know,” Penny said softly. “I know you care.” After a pause, she asked, “Why did you come back? I mean, you guys are working at the other end of the forest today. So...”

“I just had a sense that something was wrong. We’ve just finished loading all the logs into the back of the truck, so I told Dillon and Ryder to drive up to the sawmill without me. I just started running and I didn’t stop until I reached you. I just knew that I had to get to you.”

Penny leaned against him and closed her eyes. “That black wolf was from the Emerald pack,” she said.

“Yeah. But...why did he come alone? Without Gordon?” Ford’s frown deepened.

  “I don’t know.”

“Gordon bit you to Change you, and now a wolf from the Emerald pack comes and tries to kill you,” Ford said, his eyes narrowing. “That can only mean one thing.”

“What?” Penny jerked her head up.

“Gordon broke pack law by Changing you.”

  CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

Penny picked up her phone on the second ring. “Hi Kira,” she answered happily.

“Hey,” Kira chirped over the phone. “How are you, Penny?”

“I’m good,” Penny said, smiling. Kira and her grandmother, Dr. Lillian Eve had come to the house last week to check on her.

“You are adapting remarkably well,” Lillian had told her. “Some humans go through severe discomfort and b
outs of disorientation and anxiety during the Change. It can be very stressful, physically and mentally, but you are incredibly strong, Penny. Your wolf should be emerging soon. Don’t be afraid, Penny. You have control over your wolf. Your wolf is a part of you.”

Penny had insisted that Kira and Lillian stay for dinner. She liked the two straight-talking, sassy women, and she enjoyed their company. Dinner was fun and relaxed, and the guys joked with Kira and Lillian and told funny stories of the mischief they got up to when they were kids. Kira told them that her grandmother had taken up ballroom dancing after she retired from medical practice.

“She’s dating her dancing partner, and he’s mighty fine,” Kira had announced as she nudged her grandmother playfully. To Penny’s surprise, Lillian had giggled like a schoolgirl and blushed. “He’s a real silver fox!”

Penny counted Kira and Lillian as her first real friends in Nightbrook. She was slowly getting to know the townspeople, and Penny enjoyed chatting with the shopkeepers and learning more about the busy little town.

Once, when Penny had finished her grocery shopping and was walking past a coffee shop, she’d heard a chorus of familiar voices. She had turned round to see The Ballsy Hookers beckoning excitedly to her. “Penny! Come in and have a cup of coffee with us!” they had called out. She had spent the next hour laughing and exchanging recipes with those rowdy and unabashedly bawdy elderly ladies over coffee and cakes.

Her life had changed so much in just one month.

  She was Changed.

She could feel that her wolf was fully formed within her. Her wolf would be emerging any time now, and Penny was both excited and apprehensive.

More than a week had passed since she was attacked by that black wolf. Ford, Ryder and Dillon had taken turns staying home with her the past week, but Penny didn’t want to hold up their work schedule any longer. She had insisted that they get back to work, and she promised that she would call them to let them know her whereabouts throughout the day.

“What are you doing today?” Kira asked after chatting with Penny for a bit.

“I have an errand to run, so I’ll be heading into town in just a bit.”

“Great! It’s my off day today. Do you want to meet for lunch?” Kira asked.

“Okay,” Penny said, looking around the house. Everything was gleaming and not a speck of dust was to be seen.

“I’ll meet you in front of the supermarket, and we can decide where to go from there. I have a craving for fried chicken today.”

Penny laughed. “Fried chicken sounds good.”

“Yay! See you in an hour!”

Penny clicked off and went to tidy up. It was nice to have a friend, and Kira was smart, funny and kind.

Kira was a doctor in training at the local hospital, and Penny knew just how busy she was. Yet Kira made the effort to keep in touch with Penny and make her feel supported and cared for.

Once she was ready, Penny stepped out of the house and locked the door.

As she approached the car, she saw movement between the trees.

Her wolf senses pricked up. She could scent them all around her.

  Wolves.

  Wolves from the Emerald pack.

  And Gordon.

  CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

The wolves came closer and Penny backed away slowly. They had the cabin surrounded. There were at least twenty wolves, which meant that Gordon had mobilized more than half the pack. Dillon had done his research on the Emerald pack and told her that the Emerald pack was a pack of some forty to fifty wolves led by Esmeralda Cunning. Gordon was Esmeralda's only son.

Penny saw Gordon emerge from behind a tree. He was the only one in human form.

Two huge wolves stood in front of him, and Penny snorted out a laugh.

“You need two bodyguards to stand between you and little ol’ me?” she sneered. “Are you afraid of me, Gordon?”

She looked around and smirked. “I guess you are. You’ve brought half the pack with you. Did you get permission from your Mommy to bring half the pack along for your excursion?”

Gordon’s face twisted. “I’ll give you a chance, Penny. I’ll give you a chance to live.”

Penny didn’t respond. What game was he playing now?

She eyed Gordon suspiciously as he walked towards her.

Gordon leered at her. “I can smell your wolf, Penny. And she smells fucking delicious.”

  Penny bit down a snarl.

“This doesn’t have to hurt, Penny. All you have to do is be a good little wolf, and let me claim you,” Gordon said.

Her claws sliced out at once. “Stay away from me, Gordon. Don’t touch me.”

Gordon’s eyes hardened. “It’s either I claim you, or...I kill you.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Penny shook her head. His words didn’t even make sense to her. “Just leave me alone!”

“Pack law allows us to Change a mate,” Gordon said tightly.

Penny blinked, and the situation became crystal clear to her. “A mate,” she repeated. “You can only Change a mate. You are not allowed to Change a human who isn’t your mate.”

She smiled very slowly. “If you don’t claim me as your mate, you’d have to face the penalty for breaking pack law.”

Gordon clenched his jaw and his fists. “I won’t be executed or exiled.”

Penny barked out a short laugh. “Death or exile,” she said. “That doesn’t sound so bad.”

His Adam’s apple bobbed in his throat.

“You are afraid of death,” Penny said, taking a step towards Gordon. “And you know that you can’t survive on your own if you are exiled. You are such a coward and a weakling, Gordon.”

Penny gave a derisive laugh. She was strangely unafraid as she faced Gordon. She had been afraid of him before. But now, she merely pitied him.

She wasn’t scared of a weak, cowardly bully. The guy didn’t even have the guts to face the consequences of his own actions.

He had to bring half the pack along to fight his battle for him. What a loser.

“You know, I pity you. I really do,” she said. “You are a grown man, but you’re still tied to your Mommy’s apron strings. She’s the Alpha, not you.”

Penny canted her head at him. “In fact, you know that you will never be the Alpha of the pack. You don’t have what it takes. You’re just abusing your position as the Alpha’s son. That is your only claim to fame. You don’t have any power or accomplishments of your own.”

“Shut up! Shut the fuck up, bitch,” Gordon screamed. “How dare you talk to me this way! You’re nothing but a slave, a whore!”

When Penny flinched, Gordon let out a cold, cruel laugh. He had touched a sore spot, and now he would twist a knife in to cause her maximum pain and humiliation.

“Yes, that’s what you are, Penny. A worthless, stupid slave. Even your parents didn’t want you. Nobody loves you, Penny. Not even your parents.”

He snickered. “You know, your parents were the ones who kept asking me to deliver the money to them sooner. The sooner they could get the money, the sooner they would be rid of you.”

Gordon looked down his nose at her and said, “You should be grateful to me. Your parents couldn’t get rid of you fast enough. What does that say about you, huh?”

  CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

Penny reeled back as if she had been slapped. His words cut her like a knife. She already knew that her parents didn’t care for her. But to hear the words spoken out loud by a nobody who thought that he was better than everybody, it just felt like a sucker punch to the gut.

Gordon must have thought that he had succeeded in crushing her spirit. He swaggered to her and carried on in a haughty, arrogant voice, “Your parents were so eager to sell you to me. They loved money more than you. Says a lot about you, doesn’t it? Your own parents saw you as nothing but a whore.”

By sheer force of will, Penny shook away her pain and tormenting memories. She couldn’t afford to wallow in self-pity. She
couldn’t let Gordon get to her.

“It’s true my parents didn’t love me,” Penny said, straightening up. “That says a lot about them. But it doesn’t say anything about me. It says nothing about me at all.”

She looked him in the eye and said calmly, “Let’s get back to the issue at hand, shall we? You Changed a human who isn’t your mate against her will. You broke pack law. Face the penalty, Gordon. You can’t hide your mistake.”

“Yes I can,” he snarled. “I can get rid of my mistake.”

  Penny froze.

“Yes.” Gordon bared his teeth in an ugly smile. “I just have to get rid of you.”

She shook her head and took a step back.

  “I brought the pack executioner.”

A large black wolf stepped forward. There were scars zigzagging across his face, and he was missing an ear and an eye.

“You!” Penny gasped. It was the black wolf who had attacked her.

“You almost ripped out Ford’s arm,” she snarled. She remembered the brutal, savage injury that Ford had sustained.

The black wolf glared at her with his remaining eye, and Penny saw his hatred and rage. He was going to exact vengeance on Ford for maiming him.

He was going to make sure that Penny died a horrible, bloody and excruciating death.

She dragged her gaze back to Gordon. “You sent the pack executioner to kill me. You wanted to cover up what you did.”

  “Shut up, bitch,” Gordon yelled.

Penny laughed suddenly. “You tried to get rid of me, the problem. Instead, the problem became bigger and the evidence more glaring.”

She jerked her thumb at the black wolf. “When your pack executioner limped back to the pack minus an eye and an ear, you had to come clean and explain everything to Mommy Dearest. So here we are. She sent half the pack here to intimidate me into accepting your mate claim. Should I refuse this attractive offer...well, I guess that’s where the pack executioner comes in.”
