“You look lonely,” London stated, looking at me and calling my bluff, “or bored.”

“Nah, I’m fine.” I laughed lightly and held up my glass. “Just feeling a little tipsy.”

“I think that was his mission.” She giggled, looking at Clint. “Less OJ, more champagne.”

  “He’s a man. I wouldn’t have expected anything less,” I joked.

When I eyed Clint playfully, he smiled sweetly back at me.

“Hey! It’s more innocent than you think. After such dedicated, hard work, I thought you might need a little something to help you unwind,” he said, still smiling. “Is that so wrong?”

“Not entirely,” I said honestly. “I did need something to help me relax. Opening a business is very stressful.”

“Well, you look extremely good doing it,” London complimented.

“Thanks,” I said appreciatively. I set my glass down on the table in front of me and began rubbing the back of my neck with my free hand. My muscles were tight, and I desperately wanted to go home and hop straight into a hot bath.

“Tense, huh?” London asked, watching me.

  “A little,” I confessed.

“No worries. I give the best massages.” She eased off the loveseat, set her glass on the table next to mine, then walked over to the sofa and eased down beside me. “Turn around, mama,” she instructed.

I did as she told me and faced the chair where Clint was sitting, leaving my back facing London.

London instantly hit the spot, as she began to knead my neck lightly with her warm palms.

“Mmm…that feels so good,” I moaned, closing my eyes.

“You like?” London asked lowly, stroking her fingertips down the curve of my neck across my collarbone.

  “Yes.”

London spread her legs on each side of me, leaning back and allowing me to recline between them. I felt light heat coming from her body, and it turned me on slightly. Slipping her hand under my chin, she guided my face back and upward. I opened my eyes and stared directly in London’s. The corners of her lips turned up into a sensual smile before she leaned in to give me a full kiss. In that moment, the two of us were completely oblivious to Clint’s presence as she sucked on my bottom lip and tongue like my mouth held the source of her life. Her hands traveled down the front of my dress, cupping my breast; at the same time, I extended my arm, grabbed her by the back of the head, and pulled her closer to me.

“Mmm…” she moaned, running her fingers through my hair. She kissed me again, then pulled away, easing from behind me.

I glanced over at Clint, who was sitting in the chair, mesmerized, watching the two of us intently with an obvious bulge pressing against his pants.

London pulled me to my feet and took her time helping me out of my dress and panties. When I stood before them wearing nothing but a smile, her eyes cruised down my body, then back up again. “Up there.” She pointed, instructing me to sit on the back of the couch.

I stepped up on the sofa and eased down with my back up against the living room wall.

London tossed her hair to one side, then slowly started to peel off her clothing. Her body was beautiful and flawless, with the exception of a red butterfly tattoo with its wings spread, covering her hairless kitten. She knelt before me on the sofa, rubbing my thighs with both hands, the admiration on her face was making me even wetter. London guided my legs further apart, then dipped her head, covering my clit with her lips.

“Damn” I whispered, staring down at her head.

London traced the lips of my pussy slowly with her tongue before lapping my heated juices like a dog drinking from a bowl.

Clint sat with his pants open and his pole at full staff and rock hard. When I motioned with my finger, inviting him to come join us, he obeyed. He stood, then stepped over to the sofa.

London gave me an erotic show while she stripped Clint down to his birthday suit. They kissed passionately before kneeling on the sofa, side by side. Clint spread my lower lips open, and together they pushed me beyond the brink of passion, taking turns licking and sucking on my honey pot. I felt the warming sensation breaking through as I exploded, covering their lips with my creamy liquid. Grabbing my waist, Clint guided me down from the sofa on to the floor. London engaged his lips with a kiss while I maneuvered my tongue up and down his dick, making it nice and moist.

“Shit,” he said with a moan.

I bobbed up and down on his stick, going lower each time, until I had every inch of him in my mouth and halfway down my throat. I watched in admiration while Clint sucked and nibbled on London’s tight chocolate nipples while rubbing her protruding clit between his fingers. Grabbing his rod, I stroked him slowly. I pushed Clint on his back, then eased down on his dick as London assumed the position over his lips, spreading her legs wide. I cupped London’s soft breast, gazing in her eyes.

“Mmm,” she moaned in pleasure. She rocked and rotated her hips, riding Clint’s face and drenching his lips with her juices while I drenched his rock-hard stick at the same time.

  Chapter 26

Diamond’s Lounge had been open for a month, with a packed house every weekend. The income I received from Diamond’s, combined with the money I received from the streets was beyond sweet, although not nearly as much as my husband had once been able to give me. I wasn’t worried; I knew it would all come in time.

When the time came to re-up with Luis again, he agreed to have his people meet us in Miami. I was grateful for the cooperation and thankful that I’d be paying upfront this time. I selected Tyrese, Ryan, and Kendrick to make the run.

Meanwhile, Randall had been gone for five days, accompanying my mother to Vanderbilt for one of her treatments, leaving me to run the business alone. I handled my business and never complained about hard work, but I was looking forward to his return over the weekend. It was hump day, Wednesday, and that meant happy hour would pack the place with guests who were eager to take advantage of our 99-cent drink specials. After putting in eight long hours, I wished my staff a good evening and departed.

It was a beautiful August day, and I hadn’t seen Venetta since the day of the grand opening, so I decided to drop in to pay her a visit.

“Diamond!” she squealed, standing in her doorway. “What are you doing here?” She gave me a long hug, then stepped back to look at me.

“I left the club early so I could stop by and see how you’re doing,” I said, waiting for her to invite me in.

  “Oh, okay.”

“Well? Can I come in or not?”

“Sorry. Of course you can,” she said, stepping back.

I stepped inside and was impressed to find her place immaculate, spotless and clean. I walked over to the sofa and sat down, then quickly noticed a baby monitor and bottle sitting on the table. “Are you babysitting?” I questioned.

“Yeah, kinda,” she said, running her hands down the front of her dress. “Actually, I signed up to be a foster parent, and I’m considering adoption.”

  “Adoption? Really? That’s great.”

“Yeah. It was kinda sudden, but I thought it’d be a good idea. I mean, I’ve got a lot of love to give and all this room to share, right?”

“Right.” I knew Venetta was receiving money from her insurance policies on both her son and husband, so she could afford to take care of a child for a while, but I didn’t know for how long. I was also curious as to how she got approved to be a foster parent so quickly, as I had always thought it was a long process. Her emotions were rather up and down, and I was surprised that a caseworker or someone like that hadn’t bothered to check her mental stability before trusting her to take care of a baby. “When did you sign up to be a foster parent?” I asked.

“A few years ago, but I didn’t decide to pursue it until recently.”

Soft cries flowed from the monitor, interrupting our conversation.

“Excuse me,” she said, then hurried upstairs.

I waited a few seconds then finally decided to foll
ow her. I walked in the direction of Venetta’s voice, stopping at the room that was formerly Emerson’s. I pushed the door open, since it was no longer padlocked, and immediately noticed an extreme change in décor. The room was now a nursery, decorated in blue.

Venetta was standing there with her back to me, rocking and cradling the baby in her arms.

“Can I see?” I asked, stepping closer.

“Oh!” she gasped, spinning around. “You scared us.”

The baby she held in her arms was a beautiful boy who looked to be no older than a few months .

“This is that special someone I was telling you about,” she cooed, “the new man in my life.”

“He’s a little younger than I expected,” I said, and we both laughed. “What’s his name?” I asked.

“I haven’t picked one yet,” she said, staring into the baby’s face.

I found that strange and immediately asked, “Didn’t you say he was in foster care? What did his birth mother name him?”

“His birth mother is dead!” she snapped. “She’s a nonfactor! Dead, dead, dead as a doornail!” Just like that, she’d flipped out again.

“Calm down, V.” I said gently. “You don’t want to upset the baby.”

“You’re right.” She sighed. “I’m sorry, but the mere mention of that awful witch does something to me. She was such a terrible woman, Diamond.”

  “Understandable,” I said softly.

The tension in the room was thick and slightly scary, and I decided it was time for me to go, before something else I said had her going into another outburst and frightening the little one.

“Well, I guess I should get going.”

“Okay,” she said, still gazing at the baby. “Please lock the door behind you.”

“Sure.” I looked at her and the child again and left the room.

Out in my car, I sat behind the wheel, replaying her odd words and vague explanation over in my head. Something didn’t’ seem to add up. I would have been the last person to pass judgment on another woman’s ability to be a good mother, but ever since she’d lost her own son, her husband, and basically her brother, Venetta had been a whole special kind of crazy all her own. I pulled my cell phone from my purse and scrolled through my contacts, looking for a number for Dan, the cop I’d hired to work security at the lounge.

An incoming call halted my actions.

  “This is Diamond,” I answered.

“Hey. It’s Fitz.” He was one of the newest members on my team. He worked the south side of the city and was responsible for handling two of the stash houses we had in the area.

  “What’s up, Fitz?”

“The cat caught a mouse,” he said. “Things got, um…a little ugly.”

  “Really?”

“Yeah. I’m ‘bout to clean up now, but I wanted to let you know to watch your step when you walk in the kitchen.”

“Will do,” I said. “I’ll see you in forty minutes.”

All thoughts of calling Dan suddenly flew out the window after Fitz’s bad news. He had spoken carefully in code, but he’d basically told me he’d caught someone trying to steal from me. I maneuvered my car down the curvy road as fast as I could without losing control. I had two things on my mind: getting to the spot as quickly as possible and wondering who’d been stupid enough to attempt to steal from my family.

I made the drive from Limestone County, where Venetta lived, to the warehouse Gator owned in the town of Triana. When I pulled up to the building, I saw Fitz standing outside, smoking a cigarette and holding an aluminum baseball bat. “Hey, Fitz,” I greeted as I stepped out of the car.

“What’s up, Boss Lady?” he said, flicking the cigarette butt in the gravel. He had a gash on his forehead and a small cut on his cheek that was still bleeding a bit.

  “What happened?”

“I just came from making a drop over in New Projects,” he said, “and this fucker came at me from behind. I took care of him right quick, though, stuffed his sorry ass in the trunk, and drove him out here.”

“You look a little banged up. You sure you’re all right?” I questioned.

  “Yeah, I’m good.”

I followed him inside the warehouse and saw a man tied to one of the metal beams in the middle of the room. The building was completely empty, with the exception of a metal shelf that housed several tools. When Fitz had told me over the phone that things had gotten messy, he hadn’t been exaggerating. There was a swollen gash on the side of the man’s head, revealing his pink flesh. Blood trickled from the gash, down the side of his brown face, onto the white t-shirt he was wearing.

He looked at me and grinned, revealing a bloody, chipped set of teeth. “Couldn’t finish the job so you called your bitch?” He snorted as spit and blood flew from his lips.

“You think you’re a funny motherfucka, don’t ya?” Fitz said, walking over to the man. “A regular ol’ Kevin Hart up in this bitch, huh? Ha-ha, motherfucka.” He swung the baseball bat and hit the man hard in the gut.

When he could breathe again, the man hollered; cried in agony and pain.

“You attempted to steal from me,” I said, staring at him. “That was a mistake, and now we’re facing a dilemma.”

“Fuck you,” he coughed out. “How’s that for your dilemma?”

“So disrespectful,” I said, shaking my head. “Do you even know who I am?”

He looked at me and smiled. “Yeah. You’re the bitch who I let eat my dick!”

Flashbacks of the night I’d been attacked in my home temporarily paralyzed me as those same words echoed in my head. “Pull down his pants,” I instructed Fitz.

  “Say what?”

  “Do it.”

Fitz shook his head, then did as I requested.

I stared at the man’s leg and saw the same oddly shaped mole, the one I’d seen the night I’d been violated.

“Come on!” The man laughed and taunted, “Get on your knees.”

“Who sent you to my house?”

“It ain’t hard to find a ho.”

I looked at Fitz, and he swung again, hitting the man roughly in his already bruised abdomen. “Now, I’m gonna ask you one last time,” I said through clenched teeth. “If you don’t answer me this time, I’m gonna saw it off and let you suck on it before I make you eat it.”

  “Go to hell.”

“You first,” I said. I calmly walked over to the metal shelf against the wall and removed a small handsaw. Fitz watched me closely as I stepped up to the man and grabbed his limp penis. I jerked on the skin roughly, then dug the rusty edge of the saw into him. Blood squirted from his member, covering my French manicure and hands, but the sound of his cries played in my ears like music.

  “Aw, shit,” Fitz mumbled.

“Stop! No! Please stop!” the man begged. “Please stop! I’ll tell you anything you wanna know, you crazy bitch!”

I released my grip on the man’s severed member and stepped back. “Well? Who sent you to my house that night?” I asked again.

“She came up to me on the block and…” He paused and began crying hysterically. “I don’t know her name, but she was driving a Ferrari, a real thick, dark-skinned chick.”

  Venetta, I thought in disbelief.

“The bitch paid me a stack in advance and told me I could keep anything I found, as long as I left you alive.” His body begin to tremble uncontrollably from pain, fear, and blood loss. “I’m sorry. Please, lady!” he pleaded. “I’m so, so sorry.”

“So am I,” I said, dropping the saw on the ground. I then looked at Fitz. “Kill him.” The sounds of the man’s frantic screams echoed behind me as I walked through the warehouse doors, but they didn’t bother me one bit.

  * * * * *

“Diamond, what happened? You look like you been—”

The impact of my fist connecting with Venetta’s jaw silenced her; she stumbled backward and fell to the floor. I stood in the middle of her living room, shaking, still covered in the man’s bl
ood.

“What are you doing!” she screamed, clutching her face.

“I know it was you!” I yelled, standing over her.

  “What are you talking about?”

“You sent that sick fucker to my home to rob me.”

She looked at me, her eyes filled with so much conviction that there was no way she could possibly deny it.

“Why?” I asked. “Why’d you do it? Do you even know what he did to me?”

“I was mad, angry at you,” she said slowly. “It was like you didn’t even care about what was happening to my brother, to your own husband!”

“Because I chose not to agree with your vendetta against that family? Because I chose not to go after the Whitmores?”

“Yes,” she agreed. “Yes! We stand together in this family, Diamond. If one of us goes down, we all do. If one of us has an enemy, we all do.”

“As of today, you’re no longer part of my family,” I said firmly. “You’re nothing to me.”

She began laughing like a hyena and pulled herself to her feet. “Ha! Do you think I care? I don’t need you. I have him now,” she said, referring to the baby.

“It’s not official yet, bitch,” I threatened. “I’m sure I can have him removed from your house.”

“I dare you! Do that, and I’ll tell Leon I saw you sucking AJ off on the patio. I was there Diamond.”

“Pssh. He’ll never believe you, and even if he did, what can he do to me now?”

“Anything he wants,” she said, lowering her eyes. “Don’t let the prison whites fool you, Diamond. My brother is just as powerful in as he was out.”
