Sean stopped.
“Anyone who believes they can deliver that should be prepared for the same,” he said softly. ”Present company included.” He continued through the house and out of the door.
When Sean got back to the car Jordan was in the driver's seat and Sean lifted a brow.
“You're not driving me in your condition. I've got a baby on the way,” he explained.
Sean went around to the passenger seat and got in.
“Where?” Jordan asked.
“I don't care,” Sean said looking out the window.
As Jordan drove, Sean contemplated things in his head. His mother thought he was a failure because he didn't live like Jordan. If the truth be told Sean's wealth rivaled Jordan's. Sean just chose to live a different lifestyle. He had a nice home that suited him and cars that he enjoyed. He took care of his mother and had everything he wanted and needed. Sean had no problems with how Jordan lived and vice versa. They both knew who they were and were comfortable with it.
Sean knew his mother had problems with his relationship with Jordan after what Justin Black had done to his father and their family. In his mind, Jordan was not Justin. Jordan was his own man and they had been best friends almost since birth. They knew everything about each other. Even though they'd attended colleges on separates coasts they'd remained as close as if they were still next door to one another. He trusted Jordan with his life and Jordan had proven worthy on more than one occasion.
Sean continued to watch the scenery until it became familiar. Jordan had driven to the old park where they used to play basketball as kids. The car came to a stop and Jordan turned to him.
“Let's take a walk,” Jordan suggested.
They exited the car and started towards the court.
“Remember how I used to beat your ass on this court?” Jordan asked smiling.
“If I remember correctly, I was the only one you could beat on this court,” Sean returned. “Everybody else was beating your ass.”
Jordan laughed. “Yeah. Sports was not our strong suit.”
“No, but we found out what our strong suit was later.”
Jordan nodded. “That we did.” Jordan looked at him. “Do you regret it?”
Sean shook his head. “No. You?”
“Hell nah! I'm rich as hell and living the life I created,” Jordan said. “I don't owe anybody a damn thing.”
“Somebody's out to get us,” Sean told him.
“I know.”
“We might have to step back into that life,” Sean pointed out.
Jordan shrugged. “Did we ever really leave?”
Sean shook his head. “I guess not. How could we with Ray around?” he joked.
Jordan quieted. “I'm going to have to tell Sage something eventually,” he said rubbing his face.
“It's time. She loves you and she's smart as hell. She's probably already figured it out.”
“Yeah. She's smarter than I ever imagined.” Jordan commented.
The pair walked further before heading back to the car.
“Can I get my pistol back now?” Sean inquired.
Jordan slid him a look. “You cool now?”
“I'm cool.”
Jordan reached into his waistband and handed Sean the weapon. “I mean, I know you're the marksman and everything, but I couldn't take any chances. You know how you are when you get pissed. I had to make sure you didn't shoot my ass by mistake.”
Sean took the weapon and replaced it on his ankle. “You know me too well.” He smiled.
Back at the car Sean turned to Jordan. “My mother actually believes that I'm your Assistant,” he told him.
Jordan turned to him. “If your own mother believes that, then we've created the perfect illusion.”
Both men shared a look before getting back into the car and driving back to the office.
Back at Black Diamond Holdings Ray was in Sage's gallery while he was waiting for Jordan and Sean return. He was watching Lily at the desk since Sage had gone home for the day to meet with the painters for the baby's room.
“So beautiful Lily, how are you?” he asked with his brown eyes shining.
Lily looked up. “I'm good Ray. How are you?” she asked.
He shrugged. “I'd be better if I was bestowed with some of your time,” he said.
“Actually, I'm spending a lot of time working on my painting,” she told him.
Ray looked her up and down. “Well when you take a break, you know where to find me. Unless...” He gave her a look. “You're otherwise engaged?”
Lily knew he was asking on the sly about her and Sean.
“Like you said, I know where to find you,” she said giving him a small smile.
Ray smiled back at her. He knew she was giving him the polite brush off. He'd seen her the night of the gallery opening with Sean all over her. He was just seeing how deep she was into him and apparently it was deeper than he thought. He rubbed his chin. He didn't do seconds among friends anyway.
“Besides, I think that Art Dealers and not painters are what hold your interest,” she said pointedly.
Ray knew she was referring to Isabelle Martin. Isabelle was a woman that would expect a man to be on point all the time. Ray liked to run things his own way. He liked to act out, get wild and rowdy. Isabelle was cultured, refined and elegant yet despite their opposite personalities he found himself thinking about her. Often. He nodded at Lily.
“There are all kinds of women that hold my interest,” he told her giving her a look.
Lily shook her head. “You are a mess Ray.”
Lily knew that Ray didn't have a real interest in her. He was a natural flirt and flirted with any woman that caught his eye and she knew for a fact that Isabelle Martin had done just that. His entire demeanor changed around the woman. Besides, Lily was currently more than happy with her arrangement with Sean.
Jordan and Sean entered the building and headed to the gallery where Ray had told them he was waiting. When Sean entered and saw Ray standing over Lily smiling, he lifted an eyebrow. He walked over to Lily and kissed her cheek.
“Hello beautiful lady.”
She gave him a full dimpled smile. “Hi Sean. Is everything okay?” she asked. “Sage and I saw you guys leaving earlier and you looked upset.”
Sean smiled down at her. “Everything is fine,” he said staring at her.
Jordan cleared his throat. “Well I'll be in my office. Hello Lily,” he said before leaving.
“Hi Jordan,” she responded.
Jordan looked to Ray. “We should probably go,” he said walking out.
Ray looked at Lily and Sean and shook his head before following Jordan.
After they had gone, Sean asked, “Are you still painting?”
“I can take a break,” she told him.
“When?”
“Tonight,” she answered.
“Dinner?” he asked.
She smiled. “At your place?”
He shook his head. “No. At a restaurant and then we'll go to a club and dance or whatever.”
Sean had decided it was time to take his relationship with Lily out of just the bedroom. He wanted her to know that she was more than that to him but he felt her resistance.
“Sean...” she began.
“I want to spend quality time with you Lily,” he told her. “Is that not what you want?”
Lily hesitated before looking into his dark brown eyes. “I'd like that Sean,” she said shyly.
“Good. I'll pick you up tonight,” he said before placing a light kiss on her lips.
“Okay,” Lily said before she watched him turn and walk out of the gallery.
Lily took a deep breath and told herself, “Don't fall for him Lily. Don't. Remember what happened last time.”
Jordan returned home that afternoon to check on Sage and the painters. She greeted him at the door with a huge smile on her face.
“Hi Jordan!” she said excitedly.
“Hi Sage,” he s
aid smiling at her and kissing her lightly.
She grabbed his hand. “I've got something to show you!”
“Okay,” he said laughing at her exuberance. Jordan allowed her to lead him to the designated baby's room. Sage had selected the bedroom closest to the master for the baby's room. It was a huge room with an attached full bath and walk in closet. They entered the room and when Jordan saw the yellow paint on the walls he lifted a brow.
“It's a girl Jordan. I promise you,” she told him.
“I'll just have it repainted before my son comes home,” he told her.
Sage sighed. She and Jordan had agreed not to find out the sex of the baby until it was born, so they could keep up their current debate. Sage led him over to the wall opposite where the crib was stationed. He looked at the mural that was drawn there.
“What's this baby?” he asked.
Sage smiled. “It's a mural for our baby,” she explained. “I commissioned the drawing and Lily's going to come and paint it.”
Jordan studied the hand drawn picture as Sage began to explain the scene.
“Here is the African sun and it also represents our baby's uncle, the Sun God,” she began.
Jordan frowned. “You aren't seriously going to have our child call him that, are you?”
“Jordan.”
“Yeah. We'll have to talk about that,” he commented. “But please go on,” he gestured toward the mural.
“Anyway Jordan. This is an airplane and an airport which represents where we met; and then this is the beach and the ocean where you took me for our first date,” she explained.
Continuing she said, “This is a black diamond which represents Black Diamond Holdings. These photos represent my gallery and over here are two hearts which show our love for each other.” She stopped and smiled at him. “And here's a piece of Sage and next to it is the Jordan logo that you wear on all your clothes,” she said pointedly.
Jordan thought for the hundredth time that his woman never ceased to amaze him.
“And this mural is right across from the baby's bed, so she can look at it all the time and know the story of how she got here,” she finished.
Jordan stared down at her. “It's beautiful Sage. I'm speechless that you did something this incredible.” He turned to look back at the mural seeing something that she hadn't pointed out.
“What are these two circles Sage?” he asked.
She looked up at him biting her bottom lip slightly. “Those are the rings her parents exchanged when they got married,” she said softly.
Jordan turned to her slowly. “What are you saying pretty girl?”
Brown eyes held him. “What are you asking?”
He smiled. “Will you marry me Sage?”
“Yes Jordan.”
Jordan pulled her into his arms holding her tightly. He began to kiss her, loving her more than life itself. Sage pulled back after a minute.
“Nothing big or fancy Jordan,” she warned.
“Whatever you want baby,” he said happily.
Jordan thought that for a day that started out to be the worst, it had ended being the best of his life.
********************************
Sean stood next to Jordan underneath the bower on the grounds of the Black estate. They were both dressed in black tuxedos with yellow bow ties and white shirts. The entire area was decorated in yellow and white, the colors Sage had chosen. There were a few tables and chairs for a small reception with food and beverages underneath a large white canopy. Sean turned to his friend.
“Congratulations man. She's a beautiful woman. You're a lucky man,” he told Jordan.
“Thanks man. I never thought I would see this day the way she kept turning me down,” he said smiling. In fact Jordan couldn't stop smiling today. Sage had insisted on something small and intimate with just close friends and family, so it was just Sean, Lily, Ray and Isabelle. Sean and Lily were the best man and maid of honor. Ray was to give Sage away and Isabelle was the only guest.
Jordan looked up as Ray began to escort Sage down the aisle filled with yellow and white flower petals. His eyes connected with her brown ones and he was back in the airport so long ago. He'd thought she was dangerous and she definitely was in more ways than he could have ever imagined. She'd stolen his heart and held it gently in her hands. She was his everything and he couldn't wait to make her his for the rest of his life.
Jordan watched as Sage held her brother's arm as they came towards him. Her white dress was made off the shoulder and hugged her now ample breasts. Her tummy was full and round with the evidence of his love for her. Her dress stopped at her knees showing those sexy shapely legs. Her hair was down in spiraling twisty curls and she had the most beautiful smile on her face.
When Sage saw Jordan tears began streaming down her face from the beauty of him. She couldn't believe this man belonged to her. He was strong and brave. He was sweet and kind. He provided everything that she needed and wanted in a man. Her heart was filled with love for him. He looked like a dream standing tall in his designer tuxedo. She glanced at her brother who was also looking very handsome in his suit and smiled at him. He smiled back at her.
When she reached Jordan her brother stopped and stood in front of him. The two men looked at each other for a minute. Then they both embraced the other patting each other on the back. Ray turned and took her hands and kissed them both then he leaned down and kissed her cheek whispering, “I love you Baby Goddess.” He then handed her to Jordan.
Sage smiled at Sean and Lily who were also standing underneath the bower as Jordan took her hand and led her to where the judge was waiting.
The judge who was a friend of both Jordan and Sean looked at them both. “Are we ready?” he asked.
Sage nodded happily.
“Uh, we're going to need a minute,” Jordan informed him.
Sage turned to him confused. Jordan checked his watch then glanced back at Sean who nodded.
“Jordan. What's wrong?” Sage asked afraid.
He touched a hand to her face. “It's okay baby. One more minute.”
“Jordan what is going-” She stopped and turned when she heard someone call her name.
She gasped as her Aunt Ruby and Uncle John started walking towards her. They came and hugged her looking at her now full belly.
“I thought you couldn't make it?” Sage said through her tears.
“We wanted to surprise you Baby Goddess,” her uncle said hugging her again.
“Our plane was late dropping them off,” Jordan explained.
“The Gods! This is the best day ever,” she said turning back to Jordan.
Jordan looked at the judge, “Now we can start.”
Jordan and Sage said their vows loud and clear and after Jordan placed a black diamond wedding ring on her finger they were pronounced man and wife. Jordan cupped her face and kissed her as though he was never going to stop.
Sean cleared his throat. “Jordan, you do have guests. You can let her go now,” he told him.
Jordan lifted his head staring into bright brown eyes. “As long as I've waited for this woman, I'm never her letting her go,” he said kissing her again.
Chapter 27
Epilogue...
Sage was in the baby's room putting away some items when the first pain hit her. She grabbed a hold of the crib and braced herself. She wasn't due for another week but she knew this was the real deal. She waited until it passed then took a seat on the sofa in the room. She would wait until they got closer before she contacted Jordan. He had an important meeting at the office today and she didn't want to bother him for a false alarm. She had been having small pains all through the night but hadn't told Jordan for fear he would cancel his meeting for nothing. Plus, Ray was coming over to have lunch with her in a few minutes.
She had walked out of the room to the stairs when another pain hit her. This one was twice as bad as the last one. After the passing of the second pain, she thought maybe she should call her d
octor. She'd picked up the phone when the third pain made her drop to her knees. She tried to breath but she couldn't. She felt herself begin to sweat. Make the call Sage, she told herself. The next pain made her scream out loud. Grabbing the phone she called Ray.
“Baby Goddess, I'm pulling up now.”
“I need you Ray!” she cried.
“What is it?” he asked concerned after hearing her voice.
Sage breathed. “It's the baby!”
“Stay right there Sage. I'm here.”
Sage heard the alarm signaling someone was coming into the house. She saw Ray rushing into the room where he found her on the floor.
“What happened?” he said rushing over to help her up.
“It's the baby. Please, get me to the hospital.”
No more words were needed. He picked her up and began carrying her out of the room and down the stairs into the car.
Sage tried to concentrate on breathing in the car. When she screamed Ray shouted.
“Damn Sage! Hold on,” he said looking at her.
“Don't call Jordan yet. Let him finish his meeting,” she instructed.
Ray gave her a look. “Girl you must be delirious. Jordan will kill every damn person at that hospital if we don't call him.”
“Let me make sure it's not a false alarm first,” she told him.
“Hell nah...I'm calling him right now.”
Sean looked down at his phone and saw Ray was calling. Code Black. He excused himself from the meeting and stepped into the hall.
He dialed. “What's up Ray?”
“It's Sage and the baby. She's started having pains and we're almost at the hospital. Get Jay there. Now!”
Sean stopped. “Got it. On our way.”
Sean ordered a car to be out front before he went back into the meeting to get Jordan. He walked into the room and began speaking over Jordan.
“Excuse me gentlemen, at this time we're going to break for the day. We will let you know what time we will reconvene tomorrow,” he announced.
Jordan looked at Sean as if he'd lost his mind. It had taken a month to get all these shareholders into one room and now he was sending them home? What the hell?
